SUMMER SESSION ASSIGNMENTS. An Employee may notify the College of the Employee's desire to teach during the Summer Session. This notification shall identify the classes the Employee desires to teach. Teaching assignments for the Summer Session will be offered to
SUMMER SESSION ASSIGNMENTS. Priority for consideration for summer session assignments for additional pay will be given to full-time ten-month professional staff members within each college for employment in their primary areas of competence up to a maximum of 80% of the anticipated course offerings. Each college shall establish a system of rotation for allocating available opportunities. The offer of employment is made only by written contract executed by the President. In selecting professional staff members for the summer session, the President may consider but is not limited to consideration of the requirements of the assignment and any special skills or experience of potential assignees. Nothing herein shall preclude the President from offering summer school employment to nonbargaining unit members. Summer session pay shall be according to the schedule for part-time lecturers, except that up to two courses per session, but no more than four per college per summer, may be taught at a lower rate by mutual agreement between the employee and the college.
SUMMER SESSION ASSIGNMENTS.
A. A written announcement of all tentative summer session credit allotments will be made available no later than February 1 of each year.
B. Faculty within whose discipline a summer session course offering(s) normally would fall will be considered in filling the applicable instructional post(s).
C. Summer session courses and teaching assignments will be determined by the administration using the following procedures.
1. College faculty shall make recommendations to the college chair.
2. The recommendations of the college chairs will be forwarded to the Director of Summer Session.
3. Barring unforeseen financial contingencies summer session letters of appointment will normally be issued no later than April 30. If faculty so request, contracts shall be delayed until the last business day before sessions start. The administration reserves the right to reassign faculty to other classes or projects of comparable scope should sufficient students (10 or more) not enroll in assigned courses or workshops. As an alternative to accepting the reassignment, faculty may opt for a reduced workload and corresponding reduction in salary. Summer session compensation shall be provided in accordance with Section 9.21 of this agreement.

Teaching assignments for the Summer Session will be offered to qualified Employees who have so notified the College before they are offered to other persons. The College will not assign an Employee more than fifteen (15) units for a Summer Session unless other qualified Employees, who have notified the College of their desire to teach during the Summer Session, have been offered the opportunity to teach the class in question.
SUMMER SESSION ASSIGNMENTS. The department may elect to use summer session assignment procedures that differ from those pertaining to length of service and established load. The department will specify these procedures on the DSP form. The department’s summer procedures will adhere to the other provisions of this Agreement.

3. Initial allocations of established load exceeding 40 percent: For departments or disciplines offering a significant number of courses that have greater than 20 percent load value, the District and AFA may approve initial allocations of established load greater than 40 percent. The initial load allocation(s) will be specified on the DSP form (16.03.C.5.a.1.b).
4. Offers for faculty members with offer rights and no established load: A department or discipline whose programs include a significant number of courses or services with load values of greater or less than 20 percent may specify that faculty members who have offer rights but no established load will receive an initial offer of greater or less than 20 percent. The load value(s) will be specified on the DSP form (16.03.C.5.a.2).
SUMMER SESSION ASSIGNMENTS. Faculty members may accept summer session assignments. The following conditions apply:
1. The Xxxx will give first consideration to full-time faculty members who meet minimal qualifications within their respective organizational unit.
2. Compensation will be provided in accordance with Appendix .
3. Summer session assignments are not considered overload assignments.
SUMMER SESSION ASSIGNMENTS. With reference to summer school assignments of bargaining unit work, opportunities will be extended to unit members for such work and shall be made on the basis of qualifications for employment in each classification of service.
