PROFESSIONAL DUES OR FEES AND PAYROLL DEDUCTIONS. 5.1 Any unit member who is a member of the Association, or who has applied for membership, may sign and deliver to the District an assignment authorizing deduction of unified membership dues, initiation fees, and general assessments of the Association. Pursuant to such authorization, the District shall deduct one-tenth of such dues from the regular salary check of the bargaining unit member each month for ten (10) months. Deductions for bargaining unit members who sign such authorization after the commencement of the school year shall be appropriately pro-rated to complete payments by the end of the school year.
5.2 Any unit member who is not a member of the Association, or who does not make application for membership within thirty (30) days of the effective date of this Agreement, or within thirty (30) days from the date of commencement of assigned duties, shall become a member of the Association or pay to the Association a fee in an amount equal to unified membership dues, initiation fees and general
5.3 Any unit member who is a member of a religious body whose traditional tenets or teaching include objections to joining or financially supporting employee organizations shall not be required to join or financially support the Association, as a condition of employment, except that such unit member shall pay, in lieu of a service fee, sums equal to such service fee to one of the following non-religious, non- labor organizations, charitable funds exempt from taxation under section 501 (c) (3) of Title 26 of the Internal Revenue Code. 5.3.1 Proof of payment and a written statement of objection, along with verifiable evidence of membership in a religious body whose traditional tenets or teachings object to joining or financially supporting employee organizations, pursuant to section 5.3 above, shall be made on an annual basis to the District as a condition of continued exemption from the provisions of sections 5.1 and 5.2 of this Article. Evidence shall be in the form of receipts and/or canceled checks indicating the amount paid, date of payment, and to whom payment in lieu of the service fee has been made. Such proof shall be presented on or before November 1 of each school year. The Association shall have the right of inspection in order to review said proof of payment.

PROFESSIONAL DUES OR FEES AND PAYROLL DEDUCTIONS. 20.1 The District and the Federation recognize the right of employees to form, join, and participate in lawful activities of employee organizations and the equal alternative right of employees to refuse to form, join, and participate in employee organizations. Neither party shall exert pressure on or discriminate against any employee for exercising nor not exercising the membership, participation or organizational activities rights guaranteed herein or for membership or non-membership in the Federation.
20.2 The District shall deduct from the pay of Federation members and pay to the Federation the normal and regular monthly Federation membership dues as voluntarily authorized electronically or in writing by the employee on the District form subject to the following conditions:
20.2.1 Such deduction shall be made upon submission of the electronic or printed membership form to the District Payroll Department, duly completed and executed by the employee.
20.2.2 The District shall not be obligated to implement any new Federation monthly dues deduction until the pay period commencing not less than 30 workdays after such submission.
20.2.3 The District shall, on a monthly basis, draw its order upon the funds of the District in favor of the Federation for an amount equal to the total of the dues deduction made during the month and shall furnish the Federation a list of all employees affected, together with the amount deducted for each.
20.2.4 The revocable written authorization shall remain in effect until expressly revoked in writing by the employee, pursuant to the terms of the written authorization.
20.2.5 Employees wishing to cancel, revoke and/or submit their Federation membership or dues deduction authorization will be referred to the Federation. The only actions to be taken by the District if an employee approaches it regarding authorizing, changing or cancelling dues deductions will be to direct the employee to the Federation by notifying the Federation in writing of such issues.
20.2.6 Upon appropriate written authorization from the employee, the District shall deduct from the salary of any employee and make appropriate remittance for Committee on Political Education (COPE), credit union, savings bonds, charitable donations, or any other plans or programs approved by the District.

PROFESSIONAL DUES OR FEES AND PAYROLL DEDUCTIONS. 7.1 Any faculty member who is a member of the Association, or who has applied for membership may sign and deliver to the college administration an assignment authorizing deduction of unified SJDCTA/CTA/NEA dues or assessments required by the Association. Such authorization shall continue in effect from year to year unless revoked in writing between June 1 and September 1 of any year. Pursuant to such authorization, the District shall deduct one-tenth of such dues from the regular salary check of the faculty member each month for ten months. Deductions for faculty members who sign such authorization after the commencement of the academic year shall be appropriately prorated to complete payments by the end of the period for which the faculty member was contractually employed during the current academic year.
7.2 With respect to all sums for membership dues deducted by the District pursuant to authorization of the employee, the District agrees promptly to remit such monies to the Association's designee, accompanied by an alphabetical list of faculty members for whom such deductions have been made, and indicating any changes in personnel from the list previously furnished.
7.3 The Association agrees to furnish any information needed by the District to fulfill the provisions of this Article.
7.4 Upon appropriate written authorization from the faculty member, the District shall deduct from the salary of any faculty member and make appropriate remittance for plans or programs as approved by the Association.

Any bargaining unit member who is not a member of the Association in good standing or who does not make application for membership within thirty (30) days from the first day of active employment shall, as a condition of employment, pay a Representation Benefit Fee to the Association, pursuant to the Association‟s “Policy Regarding Objections to Political Ideological Expenditures” and Administrative Procedures adopted pursuant to that policy. The Representation Benefit Fee shall not exceed the amount of the Association dues collected from Association members. The bargaining unit member may pay such fee directly to the Association or authorize payment through payroll deduction, as herein provided. In the event that the bargaining unit member shall not pay such Representation Benefit Fee directly to the Association, or authorize payment through payroll deduction, the employer shall upon completion of the procedures contained in paragraph C. and pursuant to MCLA 408.477; MSA 17.277(7) and at the request of the Association deduct the Representation Benefit Fee from the bargaining unit member‟s wages and remit same to the Association. In the event there is a change in the status of the law, so that mandatory deduction from wages pursuant to the paragraph above is prohibited, the employer, at the request of the Association, shall terminate employment of a bargaining unit member that refuses to authorize the deduction of the representation benefit fee. The termination of employment shall not occur until the procedures set forth in paragraphs B. and C. have been fully met. The parties expressly agree that failure of any bargaining unit member to comply with the provisions of this article is just cause for discharge from employment.
B. The Association has established a “Policy Regarding Objections to Political Ideological Expenditures.” That policy and the administrative procedures (including the timetable for payment) pursuant thereto, apply only to non-association bargaining unit members. The remedies set forth in such policy shall be exclusive, and unless and until such procedures, including any administrative or judicial review thereof, shall have been availed of and exhausted, no dispute, claim or complaint by an objecting bargaining unit member concerning the application and interpretation of this article shall be subject to the grievance procedure set forth in this Agreement, or to any other administrative or judicial procedure. PROFESSIONAL DUES OR FEES AND PAYROLL DEDUCTIONS. A. Within thirty days of the beginning of their employment hereunder, teachers may sign and deliver to the Board an assignment authorizing deduction of membership dues of the Association (including the National Education and the Michigan Education Association, if requested). Such sum shall be deducted as authorized by the Association and approved by the administration.
B. With respect to all sums deducted by the Board pursuant to authorization of the employee, for membership dues, the Board agrees to remit the monies to the Association Treasurer. The Association agrees to advise the Board of all members of the Association in good standing and to furnish any other information needed by the Board to fulfill the provisions of this Article.
C. Upon appropriate written authorization from the teacher, the Board shall deduct from the salary of any teacher and make appropriate remittance for annuities, credit union, savings bonds, and all MESSA/MESFA offerings.
D. Membership in the Association is not compulsory. Teachers have the right to join, not join, maintain, or terminate their membership in the Association as they see fit. Neither party shall exert or put pressure on or discriminate against a teacher as regards to such matters. All full-time teachers in the bargaining unit shall, on or before the thirtieth (30) day following: The beginning of the school year, beginning of their employment, or the execution of the Collective Bargaining Agreement whichever is later, as a condition of employment or of continued employment either:
1. Become members of the Association; or
2. Pay to the Association an amount of money which the Association certifies in writing as a cost (hereinafter referred to as "fees") equal to the negotiation and administration of this Agreement. Such cost amount shall be verified and submitted in writing to the Board on or before September 15 of each year, and notice of this fee shall be presented in writing by the Association to all teachers.
3. Full-time teachers hired during the school year shall be required as a condition of employment, to render (through direct payment or deduction authorization) only a pro rata amount of the fees. Such pro ratum shall be based on a maximum of ten (10) months (school year) and/or the number of months remaining in the school year. B. Within the first two (2) weeks of school and upon request, the Board shall supply the Association with a list of newly- hired teachers. Any teacher who is not a member of the Association in good standing or who does not make application for membership within thirty (30) days from the commencement of teaching duties, shall, as a condition of employment, pay a representation service fee to the Association, an amount equal to the professional dues of the Association, provided however, that the teacher shall authorize payroll deduction for such fee in the same manner as provided in the preceding Paragraph A. In the event that a teacher shall not authorize payment through payroll deduction, as provided in the preceding paragraph, the Board may cause the termination of employment of such teacher. The parties expressly recognize that the failure of any teacher to comply with the provisions of this Article is just and reasonable cause for discharge from employment, since the establishment of said representation service fee is herewith deemed to be the sum required to insure that non-members pay their proportionate share of the costs of obtaining and administering the benefits to be received hereunder.
