A leave necessitated by critical illness or death of a spouse, child, parent, legal guardian, parent-in-law, grandparent, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, brother, sister, grandchild, brother-in-law, sister-in- law, grandparent of spouse, shall be granted with full salary by the School Division as follows:

A leave necessitated by exceptional circumstances, may be granted by the Director of Education.‌
A leave replacement is a position that is filled when the District is notified that an employee will be off work in excess of thirty (30) consecutive work days, or an employee is off work in excess of thirty (30) consecutive work days, up to one (1) year in duration. His/her position will be posted as a leave replacement position. An employee in a leave replacement assignment of more than ninety (90) consecutive work days shall receive health benefits on the ninety first (91st) day of that assignment, through December 31, 2019. If the person on leave returns to his/her position, and if the person who was the leave replacement employee was a District employee at the time the leave replacement position was filled, he/she will have the option of returning to his/her previous position. If the person who filled the leave replacement position at the time the leave replacement position was filled was not a District employee, he/she will have no rights to continued employment with the District. If the District receives notice that the person on leave is not returning, the position shall be posted within ten (10) working days from the time the District receives the notice. If the notice is received within thirty (30) calendar days of the end of the school year, the District may decide to keep the person in the leave replacement position until the end of the school year only.
A leave. Upon return from a leave, a teacher shall be returned to the school in which the teacher was employed immediately prior to the commencement of the leave, subject to Article Where the teacher held a position of responsibility, it shall be returned to the teacher if the teacher returns to the school prior to the end of the term of the position of responsibility and provided that the position still exists. Unless otherwise stated, during the leave no salary shall be paid and no experience shall be accumulated for salary purposes. Unless otherwise stated, upon return from a leave, a teacher shall be placed on the schedule in accordance with the qualifications and experience possessed at the time the leave began.
