Benefits While on Unpaid Leave of Absence. The Employer will continue to pay its share of the applicable health and welfare benefits for a maximum of 20 work shifts in any calendar year. For any leave of absence or accumulation of leaves of absence in excess of 20 work shifts in any calendar year, benefit coverage may be continued by the employee, provided the employee pays, in advance, the monthly cost of all the benefit premiums to the Employer in accordance with the procedures outlined by the Employer. Any employee granted an unpaid leave of absence totalling up to 20 working days in any year will continue to accumulate seniority and all benefits. If an unpaid leave of absence or an accumulation of unpaid leaves of absence exceeds 20 working days in any year, the employee will not accumulate benefits from the 21st day of the unpaid leave, but will accumulate seniority and receive credit for previously earned benefits upon expiration of the unpaid leave. Payment of benefit premiums will be prorated for partial months.

The City will cease payment of any and all contributions for employee health and dental benefits for those employees who remain on unpaid status in excess of twelve (12) continuous weeks, with the exception of approved sick leave, workers' compensation leave, family care leave, or mandatory administrative leave. Following expiration of the employee’s family care leave, the employee may request personal leave due to hardship (pursuant to the procedures of the Department of Human Resources). Paid benefits shall continue during this approved personal leave. An Employee granted an unpaid leave of absence shall not be eligible for fringe benefits, holiday pay, longevity pay, accrued retirement, vacation, or sick leave during the period of such leave. Seniority shall accrue for the first thirty (30) days while on an unpaid leave of absence.
Benefits While on Unpaid Leave of Absence. 142. The court will cease payment of any and all contributions for employee health and dental benefits and flexible benefits for those employees who remain on unpaid status in excess of sixteen (16) continuous weeks, with the exception of workers’ compensation leave, leave specifically covered by the Family and Medical Care Act (FMLA), California Family Rights Act, Pregnancy Disability Leave Act, or any other local, state or federal law requiring maintenance of benefits, or mandatory administrative leave.

The District will discontinue payment of any and all contributions for employee 38 health and dental benefits for those employees who remain on unpaid leave 39 status in excess of twelve (12) continuous weeks, with the exception of 40 approved sick leave, workers' compensation leave, family care leave, or 41 mandatory administrative leave. 42
43 2. Affected employees must make arrangements with the District Business Office 44 for payment of benefit premiums within twenty (20) working days following 45 notice of approval of leave. Members not making such arrangements within 46 twenty (20) working days following notice of approval of leave shall have 47 coverage rescinded until they return from leave.
Benefits While on Unpaid Leave of Absence. Paid time off benefits do not accrue during any unpaid leave of absence. The Employer shall pay the Employer’s share of the insurance premiums for the first three (3) months of an unpaid leave. The Employer shall pay the Employer’s share of the insurance premium for the first one (1) month of an unpaid personal leave. After that time, an employee on leave of absence may continue coverage under the Employer’s group health insurance and other insurance plans by paying the cost thereof. There shall be no break in seniority during the period of a leave of absence.
