Christmas and New Years Vacation Scheduling. The Employer may grant vacation during Christmas/New Year’s period to a maximum of two (2) employees (maximum of three (3) employees in homes with 120 beds or greater, and a maximum of four (4) employees in homes with 160 beds or greater) in the entire bargaining unit, on a rotating seniority basis, subject to the following
(a) there are replacement staff who are available to fill in during this period.
(b) notice must be given to the employer of an employee’s intention to exercise vacation time during the Christmas period at the vacation request cut-off date in the collective agreement or at least six (6) months’ notice if no cut-off date exists in the collective agreement.
(c) employee’s requests to have vacation during the Christmas period shall be finally determined by the Administrator given due consideration for the safe and efficient operation of the Nursing Home.

(b) Notice must be given to the employer of an employee's intention to exercise vacation time during the Christmas period at least six (6) month's in advance.
(c) employee's requests to have vacation during the Christmas period shall be finally determined by the Employer given due consideration for the safe and efficient operation of the Home.

Employees may be granted vacation at Christmas on a rotating seniority basis subject to the following: Maximum of 4 employees in the Nursing Home as follows: Activation/PSW – total 2 Dietary/Laundry/Handyman/Housekeeping – total 2 Maximum of 2 employees in the Retirement Residence as follows: Activation/PSW – total 1 Dietary/Laundry/Handyman/Housekeeping – total 1
(a) there are replacement staff who are available to fill in during this period.

(c) employee’s requests to have vacation during the Christmas period shall be finally determined by the Administrator given due consideration for the safe and efficient operation of the Nursing Home. However, if no employees from the Retirement Home utilize their vacation as stipulated in art. 21.18; the Employer shall grant the opportunity to an employee in the Nursing Home, provided the employees are not all working on the same shift in the Nursing Home.

(d) Where an employee's scheduled vacation is interrupted due to a serious illness requiring the employee to be an in-patient in a hospital, the period of such hospitalization shall be considered sick leave provided the employee provides a satisfactory documentation of the illness and the hospitalization. The portion of the employee's vacation which is deemed to be sick leave under the above provision will not be counted against the employee's vacation credits. Where an employee's scheduled vacation is prevented due to a serious illness requiring the employee to be an in-patient in a hospital which commenced before the vacation started, the period of such hospitalization shall be considered sick leave provided the employee provides a satisfactory documentation of the illness and the hospitalization. The portion of the employee's vacation which is deemed to be sick leave under the above provision will not be counted against the employee's vacation credits.
