EDUCATION AND TRAINING REIMBURSEMENT. The City encourages full time employees to increase their skills through attendance at seminars, workshops, continuing education and college classes. All employees are eligible to participate in this program regardless of classification. Normally, new employees are asked to wait for a minimum of six months or until after their required learning period is completed before making a request for training and/or education. Courses are divided into two categories, training and education. Training is paid in advance and education is reimbursed after successful completion. As a general rule, continuing education courses are considered training and college courses are considered education. Employees enrolling in courses for which they will be requesting prepayment or reimbursement should complete the proper form as soon as a decision has been made, but no less than three weeks in advance. The request must be approved by the Captain and/or Chief and the Safety Service Director prior to the date the course begins. In addition, employees requesting prepayment for training must sign a statement agreeing to repay the City if the course is not successfully completed. In both training and education, verification that the course(s) has been successfully completed is required.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING REIMBURSEMENT. A. As an incentive to employee education and training, the City will reimburse employees one time for successful completion of certain coursework and exams related to their employment with the City. Reimbursements must be pre-approved by the Department Head and City Manager, and reimbursement will be given following the satisfactory completion of the course and/or exam. Books and reusable materials will become the property of the City and will be made available for use by other employees.

Toward this end, the County will provide reimbursement for courses and certification examinations which are DIRECTLY RELATED to the employee’s PRESENT POSITION OR PROMOTION WITHIN THE COUNTY SERVICE. Reimbursement, which can be provided for tuition, fees and material costs directly related to the approved course, shall be limited to two hundred and fifty dollars ($250.00) per course or one hundred dollars ($100.00) per semester or quarter unit, whichever amount is greater, not to exceed five hundred dollars ($500.00) per individual employee per fiscal year. Said reimbursement shall include fifty percent (50%) reimbursement for the costs of required textbooks and one hundred percent (100%) reimbursement for the costs of certification examinations. Employees covered by this M.O.U. will receive reimbursement for courses and certification examinations in accordance with the County’s Education and Training Reimbursement Resolution (Resolution No. 76-138) as amended. Effective the fiscal year stating July, 2008 the $500 annual amount shall increase to $600.

  • Education and Training The foundation of this Program is education and voluntary compliance. It is recognized that alcohol and chemical dependency may make voluntary cessation of use difficult, and one of the Program’s principal aims is to make voluntary steps toward ending substance abuse easily available. The outside contractor shall review and develop on-going educational and training information on the adverse consequences of substance abuse and the responsibility to avoid being under the influence of alcohol or chemicals at work. Certain training required by the DOT Regulations shall be the responsibility of the Substance Abuse Program.

Any employee listed on the payroll at a trainee rate who is not registered and participating in a training plan approved by the Employment and Training Administration shall be paid not less than the applicable wage rate on the wage determination for the classification of work actually performed. In addition, any trainee performing work on the job site in excess of the ratio permitted under the registered program shall be paid not less than the applicable wage rate on the wage determination for the work actually performed. In the event the Employment and Training Administration withdraws approval of a training program, the contractor will no longer be permitted to utilize trainees at less than the applicable predetermined rate for the work performed until an acceptable program is approved.
