Eye Tests visual display units 7.6.1 Any permanent employee whose weekly hours of work set under clause 2.4.2 are not less than 20 per week and who works on a VDU for at least 50% of their normal working time shall be entitled to an eye test biennially or as required at the employer’s expense. If the test discloses that prescription lenses are required for the normal viewing distance of a VDU, or that an eyesight problem has been created or worsened by a VDU, then the actual and reasonable cost of single vision spectacle lenses will be met by the employer. The employer will also meet the actual and reasonable cost of spectacle frames where the employee requires lenses for the first time. 7.6.2 If the employee chooses contact lenses the employer will meet the costs only up to the level required to be met under clause 7.6.1. 7.6.3 Employees who work continuously at VDU terminals will be provided with relief by variations in work, or by regular breaks of 10 minutes in every hour. 7.6.4 Pregnant VDU operators - while current scientific evidence supports the view that there are no adverse health effects or associated risks for pregnant women, the employer will make every effort to accommodate requests for alternative duties during the period of pregnancy. Employees who are temporarily redeployed for this reason should not be disadvantaged in relation to either pay or conditions of employment.

Eye Tests. (a) Continuing employees shall be entitled to an eye test at the employer’s expense, reimbursable up to a maximum of $60.00. Further tests shall be provided at not less than two yearly intervals upon application to the employer. If the test discloses that prescription eyewear is required or that eyesight has deteriorated, then the actual cost of prescription eyewear (up to $250.00) will be met by the employer by reimbursement. (b) The employer shall not be liable for reimbursement of prescription eyewear costs when the prescription identified as being required is the same as that of the most recent prescription for the employee. (c) The maximum reimbursement allowed for prescription eyewear will be $250.00.
Eye Tests. An employee who is engaged in computer duties for at least 50 per cent of their normal working time is entitled, at not less than two yearly intervals, to a contribution towards the cost of eye tests and, if the test discloses that prescription spectacles or contact lenses are required for the normal viewing distance of a computer, towards the cost of spectacles or contact lenses. The total maximum reimbursement (eye test and spectacles/lenses combined) will not exceed $400 and will be subject to PAYE. If an employee resigns within six months of receiving spectacles or contact lenses under this clause, the employee will repay to the employer two thirds of the costs incurred.

(a) If the test discloses that prescription lenses are required for the normal viewing distance of a VDU, or that an eyesight problem has been created or worsened by a VDU, then the actual and reasonable cost of the lenses will be met by the employer. The employer will also meet the actual and reasonable cost of spectacle frames where the employee requires prescription lenses for the first time. The cost to Te Kura shall not exceed $300 biennially for any individual, as reflected in the policy of Te Kura. (b) If the employee chooses contact lenses the employer will meet the costs only up to the level required to be met under (a) above.
Eye Tests. During the term of the Collective Agreement, the parties agree to work on options to obtain free or discounted eye tests for Te Whatu Ora/Health New Zealand-employed Medical Physicists on a similar basis as arrangements for MITs referenced in previous MRTAC engagement. Eye Tests. (a) Eye tests will be undertaken by a mutually agreed expert. (b) The expert is to report whether glasses are needed, specifically referring to whether such are required for the operation of V.D.T.’s compared with present work requirements. (c) The Employer will pay any difference in costs between health insurance rebate and consultation fee. (d) The tests which are to be undertaken in working hours are to be conducted firstly prior to staff being required to use screens on training and a further two or three tests, as locally agreed, at six monthly intervals. After completion of the last test, ad hoc tests shall be conducted on request and be twelve months after the last. Provided that if a particular employee considers an eye problem exists, additional tests may be undertaken, at the request of the employee concerned, at intervals between those nominated above. (e) Employers are not required to pay for any glasses prescribed for normal use. However, the Employer will meet the cost of new glasses if the employee has the necessary proof from the mutually agreed expert, that a marked deterioration in eyesight has occurred due to the use of V.D.T.’s. (f) The principle relating to payment of tests and glasses apply to the first and any subsequent tests. New employees are to undertake similar testing.

Further eyesight tests shall be available at not less than two-yearly intervals upon application to the Employer.
