Informal Observations. A. An informal observation is an observation that is not required to be pre-scheduled. B. An evaluator may conduct any number of informal observations. C. Observations do not have to be in the classroom. For example, department or collegial meetings may be used for informal observations. D. Informal observations may serve as an opportunity for formative feedback. If there are concerns regarding the teacher’s/educator’s level of performance based upon informal observations, the evaluator will document the concern and schedule a time to discuss with the employee.

Informal Observations. 1. An informal observation is a walkthrough of non-confidential activities during unannounced times. Such observations shall be documented on the form in Appendix I-2 and will focus on one (1) or more of the following components: • Comprehensive School Counseling Program Plan • Direct Services for Academic, Career and Social/Emotional Development • Indirect Services: Partnerships and Referrals • Evaluation and Data • Leadership and Advocacy • Professional Responsibility, Knowledge and Growth 2. The walkthrough shall be at least ten (10) consecutive minutes, but not more than twenty (20) consecutive minutes in duration. The walkthrough must be of sufficient duration to allow the evaluator to assess the focus of the walkthrough. 3. The counselor shall be provided a copy of the informal observation form. 4. No fewer than two (2) informal observations shall be included in each evaluation cycle.

Informal Observations. The purpose of informal observations, which may be unannounced, is to document staff performance in settings that are outside the formal observation process and are applicable to the employee’s evaluation criteria.
