LEAVE OF ABSENCE - BEREAVEMENT. 11.09.01 When a death occurs in the immediate family of an employee, the employee shall be granted Bereavement Leave up to seven (7) days, at the employee's option, of which not more than three (3) will be with pay. Such leave will normally commence with the first day following the death or advice of death.
11.09.02 Immediate family is defined as: spouse (including common-law spouse), children of employee and spouse, parents of employee and spouse, grand-parents of employee and spouse, grand-children of employee and spouse, brothers and sisters of employee and spouse, and including other relatives residing with the employee.
11.09.03 In unusual circumstances where the deceased is not a member of the immediate family (e.g., guardian), Xxxxxxxxxxx Leave will be at the discretion of the Company.
11.09.04 Additional leave without pay up to a maximum of fifteen (15) days may be granted without reference to Article 7.08.

Should a bereavement occur in the immediate family of an employee, with twelve (12) or more months of seniority, the employee will be provided up to three (3) consecutive days off with pay to attend the funeral if scheduled to work. Immediate family shall be defined in Article 22 of the main body of the Collective Agreement. Such an employee who is scheduled to work in excess of twenty four (24) hours in the week in which the bereavement occurs shall be entitled to bereavement leave with pay as set out in Article 22 of the main body of this Collective Agreement.
LEAVE OF ABSENCE - BEREAVEMENT. 7.01 Should a bereavement occur in the immediate family of an employee, with twelve (12) or more months of seniority, the employee will be provided up to three (3) consecutive days off with pay to attend the funeral if scheduled to work. Immediate family shall be defined in Article 22 of the main body of the Collective Agreement. Such an employee who is scheduled to work in excess of thirty-two (32) hours in the week in which the bereavement occurs shall be entitled to bereavement leave with pay as set out in Article 22 of the main body of this Collective Agreement.
7.02 At the sole discretion of the Owner a leave of absence may be granted for educational purposes. Such employees will not acquire seniority for the period of their leave. It is agreed that the owner’s discretion will be applied fairly amongst all employees within a given location.

The employee will take these three (3) days either consecutively or separately provided they are taken within ten (10) days following the death.
11.08.02 Immediate family is defined as: spouse (including common-law spouse), children of employee and spouse, parents of employee and spouse, grand-parents of employee and spouse, grand-children of employee and spouse, brothers and sisters of employee and spouse, and including other relatives residing with the employee.
11.08.03 In unusual circumstances where the deceased is not a member of the immediate family (e.g., guardian), Bereavement Leave will be at the discretion of the Company.
11.08.04 Additional leave without pay up to a maximum of fifteen (15) days consecutive to the period outlined in Article 11.08.01 may be granted without reference to Article 7.08.
LEAVE OF ABSENCE - BEREAVEMENT. 13.01 Should a bereavement occur in the immediate family of an employee with twelve (12) or more months of seniority, the employee will be given up to three (3) days paid time off (if scheduled), to attend the funeral. The three (3) days shall be: the day before the funeral, the day of the funeral, and the day following the funeral. Immediate family shall be defined in Article 22 of the main body of this Collective Agreement. Should an employee request a one (1) day leave of absence without pay, to attend the funeral of a close friend or relative, not covered in this article, reasonable effort will be made to grant the request.

Such leave will normally commence with the first day following the death or advice of death. Such leave, at the discretion of the employee, may be broken into 2 parts to meet the special needs of religious observances. Employer may request substantiation.
11.06.02 Immediate family is defined as: spouse (including common-law spouse and same sex partner as defined by Company regulations), children of employee and/or spouse (including adopted, xxxxxx, or xxxx children), parents of employee or spouse, grandparents of employee or spouse, grandchildren of employee or spouse, brothers and sisters of employee or spouse, including other relatives residing with the employee.
11.06.03 In unusual circumstances where the deceased is not a member of the immediate family (e.g., guardian), bereavement leave will be at the discretion of the Company.
11.06.04 An employee who leaves work to commence bereavement leave will receive their regular pay but will not have that day counted as bereavement leave.
11.06.05 Should circumstances warrant, bereavement leave may be extended with or without pay on approval of the appropriate management person.

Immediate family shall be defined in Article 22 of the main body of this collective agreement. An employee will be given time off with pay to attend the funeral of an aunt or uncle, provided the employee was scheduled to work that day. Such an employee who is scheduled to work in excess of twenty four (24) hours in the week in which the bereavement occurs shall be entitled to bereavement leave with pay as set out in Article 22 of the main body of this Collective Agreement.

LEAVE OF ABSENCE - BEREAVEMENT. 12.01 The nurse will be allowed up to five (5) consecutive calendar days off without loss of her basic straight time pay inclusive of the day of the funeral or a memorial service (or equivalent) of a member of her immediate family. Immediate family means: parent, step-parent, brother, step-brother, sister, step-sister, spouse or child, step-child. The employee’s fiancée will also be included in this clause. The nurse will be allowed up to three (3) consecutive calendar days off without loss of her basic straight time pay inclusive of the day of the funeral or a memorial service (or equivalent) of her mother-in-law, father-in-law, son- in-law, daughter-in-law, grandparent, step-grandparent, grandparent-in-law, grandchild, step-grandchild, sister-in-law or brother-in-law. “Spouse” for the purposes of bereavement leave will be defined as in the Family Law Act. “Spouse” for the purposes of bereavement leave will also include a partner of the same sex. One (1) day off without loss of her basic straight time pay will be granted to the nurse to attend the funeral of an aunt, uncle, nephew or niece. The Home in its discretion may extend such leave without pay, in circumstances where extensive travel is required and/or other matters related to the estate of the deceased.
