Length of Maternity Leave. Maternity leave shall cover for a period up to twelve (12) months. The leave period may be used before and/or after the birth or adoption of a child. Where a doctor’s certificate is provided, stating that a longer period of maternity leave is required for health reasons, an extension up to a maximum of eighteen (18) months shall be allowed. During this period and as the Public Employee Benefit Plans allow, benefits shall be maintained.
Length of Maternity Leave. Subject to Article 28:05 (c), an employee who is eligible for maternity leave is entitled to the following maternity leave:
(i) If the date of delivery is on or before the date estimated in a medical certificate, a period of not more than seventeen (17)weeks’; or
(ii) If the date of delivery is after the estimated date, seventeen (17) weeks and a period of time equal to the time between the estimated date and the date of delivery.
Length of Maternity Leave. The maternity leave to which the employee is entitled under Article 28:05 (a) is:
(i) Any time, within the time referred to in Article 28:05 (a) (ii) that she does not work; and
(ii) The difference between that time and the time she would receive if she were entitled under Article 28:08 (i).
Length of Maternity Leave. A maternity leave of absence without pay shall be granted by the appointing authority in accordance with the minimum provided under State/Federal law. Additional leave, up to a total combined maximum of one year, may be granted by the appointing authority.
Length of Maternity Leave. Subject to subsection (3), an employee who is eligible for maternity leave is entitled to the following maternity leave:
Length of Maternity Leave. A Staff Member shall be entitled to Maternity Leave in accordance with the Alberta Employment Standards Code and the provisions of this Article 8. In any case, the length of Maternity Leave shall not extend beyond the end date of a Temporary Appointment.
Length of Maternity Leave. Adoption Leave Leave without pay shall cover a period up to six (6) months before and/or after the birth or adoption of a child. Upon request by the employee, an extension of up to a maximum of six (6) additional months shall be allowed.
Length of Maternity Leave. Such leave shall be granted on written request which notifies the Employer at least three (3) weeks in advance of the date the leave shall start, and stating the probable date of delivery, the length of leave requested, as well as a clearly stated intention to return to work on completion of leave of absence. The maternity leave shall not begin more than five (5) months preceding the expected termination of pregnancy. The total maximum leave shall not exceed twelve (12) months.
Length of Maternity Leave. A maternity leave shall be no longer than one (1) year. If an employee utilizes more than sixty (60) work days of maternity leave, the limitation related to Child Care Leave, as specified in Article 28., D., 3., shall apply.

Fifteen (15) weeks is Maternity Leave for a mother giving birth (6 of which must be taken after the delivery), 37 weeks is Parental Leave, entitled to the mother after delivery, the other parent after the time of birth, or adoptive parents after the time of adoption. Both parents may share parental leave, as long as the sum of both of their leave time does not exceed 37 weeks. In the case that both parents are employees the Employer is not required to grant parental leave to more than one parent at a time.
