Long-term unpaid leaves of absence. A long-term unpaid leave of absence is defined as an unpaid leave of absence exceeding five (5) consecutive scheduled teacher work days which is not covered by any other provision of this Agreement. A long-term leave of absence can only be approved by action of the Board. The Board may grant a long-term leave of absence for any reason judged good and just by the Board.

Long-term unpaid leaves of absence. 17.01.01 A Member may request a Long Term unpaid leave of absence of up to three (3) consecutive school years. Any request for such a leave shall be submitted annually, in writing, to the Director of Education or designate on or before the Monday after the March Break in the academic year preceding that in which the leave is to commence, with a copy to the Local President and the Principal. Leaves which might be requested for January 1 shall be submitted by the preceding October 15. The Employer shall respond to the Member, with a copy to the Local President, by no later than May 15 for a leave beginning in September, and no later than December 15 for a leave beginning in January. Leaves may be considered, with mutual consent, for other timeframes. Such leaves may be granted for various reasons, which may or may not involve educational endeavours. It is further understood that such leaves may be granted for the purpose of campaigning for or serving as an elected official with the Federal, Provincial or Municipal government, or for humanitarian/health reasons in cases where sick leave has been exhausted.

  • Unpaid Leaves of Absence A. A department head or designee may grant an unpaid leave of absence for a period not to exceed one (1) year. The employee shall provide substantiation to support the employee's request for an unpaid leave of absence.

  • Paid Leaves of Absence Paid leaves of absences granted under this Article shall not exceed the employee's normal work schedule.

  • Long Term Leave of Absence The District may grant any employee an unpaid long-term leave of absence for up to one (1) year for study, child rearing, travel, medical, or other mutually agreed to reason(s). Upon Board approval leave may be extended an additional year. Employees granted such a leave shall be permitted to stay on the District insurance programs at their own expense (carriers permitting), shall not gain or lose seniority or other benefits, but shall not be granted advancement credit on the salary schedule for the period of the leave. Upon return from such leave, the employee shall be entitled to the same position or a position substantially equivalent to the position held prior to the leave.

  • Unpaid Leave of Absence If an employee is on an unpaid leave of absence, then vacation leave, compensatory time, or sick leave cannot be used for the purpose of maintaining eligibility for an Employer Contribution by keeping the employee on a State payroll for one (1) working day per pay period.

  • Union Leaves of Absence In support of the Partnership relationship, upon request, the Employer will grant time off to employees for official union business as long as the number of employees absent for union business does not impose an unreasonable burden on the Employer and the Employer receives reasonable notice. Union leaves will be defined according to the following: Short-Term Leaves are defined as leaves up to 30 days. Employees will continue to accrue seniority, service credit and benefits during the time of the absence, at the expense of the Employer. The impact of multiple short-term leaves on the operations must be considered. Long-Term Leaves are defined as leaves of absence for more than 30 days and up to a maximum of one year. Such leaves will be granted by the Employer in increments of three months and shall be jointly reviewed, on a periodic basis, at the regional level. Seniority, service credit, credited service and health, dental and life insurance benefits will continue during the leave as long as the union reimburses Xxxxxx Permanente for the associated costs.
