Professional Growth Option. 36 Eligibility to participate in the Professional Growth Option, hereafter referred to as PGO, 37 shall require four (4) years of satisfactory long-form evaluations for employees new to 38 teaching, and two (2) years of satisfactory long-form evaluations for experienced 39 employees new to Tumwater School District who have received at least two (2) years of 40 satisfactory long-form evaluations in their previous districts. The long-form evaluation 41 must occur at least once every six (6) years. 42 44 45
Professional Growth Option. A. The Professional Growth Option (PGO) shall be voluntary to employees who have successfully completed four years of satisfactory summative evaluations, at least two of which must be in the Northshore School District. Employees wishing to change from summative to PGO must notify the Building Administrator/Supervisor prior to February 15.
B. PGO shall encourage professional growth through goal setting and shall involve the employee and the administrator in cooperative discussions, planning and collegial interaction for the accomplishment of goals.
C. All written materials, except The Employee’s Planning Worksheet and the Verification Form, generated for or resulting from the Formative Evaluation process shall be kept by the employee and separate from the Summative Evaluation permanent record. The Professional Growth Option plan will include self- assessment plans, which may be in the form of observation and comment by one or more peers of the employee’s choice, comment by students and/or comment by parents of students, or a self-assessment tool as designed by the employee(s).
D. A total of sixty minutes of observation is required each year and may be noncontinuous. A written summary is required.
E. No later than November 1 of each year, participant(s) and supervisor(s) shall meet to thoroughly discuss the potential goal(s) and the employee may utilize the planning worksheet. Participants should have in mind the goal(s), the areas to be investigated, resources needed, colleagues to be involved, methods for collecting data and the methods for evaluating growth toward the goal(s). During this meeting the supervisor shall act as a facilitator in order to clarify and refine the goal(s), assist with resources and serve as a resource.
F. The participant may select from the following list as a means of implementing goal(s):
1. school district goals;
2. building goals;
3. professional goals;
4. academic goals;
Professional Growth Option. The Professional Growth Option (P.G.O.) is a formative evaluation process that encourages professional growth, employee innovation, and peer sharing and support.
Professional Growth Option. At all times during the Professional Growth Option, collaborative interaction, based on trust and confidence, is encouraged. Growth is the desired outcome and the Professional Growth Option should not represent a threat.

The Professional Growth Option and Staff Development The goal of both PGO and Staff Development is to xxxxxx increased staff knowledge, skills, and abilities in a variety of ways to improve student achievement. The District’s staff development program will assist in providing resources and opportunities such as classes and workshops to support PGO participants in implementing plans and reaching goals.
Professional Growth Option. After an employee evaluated pursuant to this section has four (4) years of summative satisfactory evaluations in the Tukwila School District, the employee and evaluator may mutually agree to use the formative Professional Growth Option (PGO). The Professional Growth Option shall conform to the PGO form attached hereto in Appendix F and to the following procedures:
a. On or before June 1 of the school year prior to PGO, the employee will submit a PGO proposal form to the administrator consistent with PGO goals as described below.
b. The employee and the evaluator will complete Professional Growth training arranged by the District by October 15 as a condition for participating in PGO.
c. The employee and evaluator shall collaboratively design a PGO and complete steps 1-4 of the PGO plan by October 15.
d. School/department goals will be mutually established among the staff and school/department administrator. School/department goals will be consistent with District goals. School/department and District goals will provide the framework for individual employee goal setting.
e. The employee will develop their annual goals collaboratively in a meeting with their administrator. Employee goals will focus on one or more of the following goal areas:
i. Employee Goals. These are directly related to educational support services.
ii. Student Goals. Goals in this category relate to desired student outcomes.
iii. Program Goals. These goals relate to school, department, school district and/or other professional program development.
Professional Growth Option. 1. A certificated support employee and evaluator may utilize a Professional Growth Option as an alternative to the Standard evaluation process. This optional evaluation model is available to employees in one (1) to three (3) year increments. Every fourth (4th) year the Standard observation and evaluation procedures will be used.

2. For purposes of this Professional Growth Option, evaluation requirements are defined as an observation(s) totaling an annual minimum of sixty (60) minutes observing the certificated employee in the performance of their assigned professional duties. These professional duties may include those identified in their Professional Growth Option goals which may or may not include direct classroom observation.
3. Upon the request of either the employee or the evaluator, the professional growth process will be discontinued and the Standard evaluation process will be used. If the evaluator requests that the employee be returned to the Standard evaluation process, such request shall be subject to a direct classroom observation or series of observations indicating that the employee is not meeting the minimum evaluation criteria. Such requests must be received by October 15.
Professional Growth Option. 10.3.1 The Professional Growth Option (PGO) is available as an alternative to the regular evaluation process. The PGO is voluntary by mutual agreement of the staff member and administrator; it is available to staff who have successfully completed four years of satisfactory summative evaluations. Employees new to the district must teach one year under the traditional evaluation process before changing to the PGO program. The district and the association shall provide a district-wide informational meeting for prospective PGO participants annually, no later than May 15.
10.3.2 An employee must be evaluated via the summative program every three years.
