Serious Illness in Family. A Regular employee may be allowed time off with pay from scheduled basic hours during any necessary period of absence not exceeding one (1) week occasioned by the serious illness of a close relative. Satisfactory proof of the necessity of the employee’s absence must be provided when requested. A Regular employee shall be allowed necessary time off with pay from scheduled basic hours to act as a donor for a blood transfusion for a close relative. The term “close relative” includes mother, father, spouse (including common-law), sister, brother, son, daughter and any relative of the employee who resides permanently in the employee’s household or with whom the employee permanently resides.
Serious Illness in Family. A maximum of five (5) days per year for serious illness in the immediate family living in the same household. Proof of serious illness shall be furnished if required by the Board.

The immediate family shall be the same as defined in funeral leave, Article 14D. The employee shall provide upon return the name and address of the attending physician. The physician may be contacted by the Board and verification obtained. In the event the attending physician requires a release authorizing his or her verification of the serious nature of the injury or illness, such a released will be signed upon request. In cases where the serious nature of the injury or illness has been verified by a physician, his or her definition of serious shall be accepted as valid. This leave may be used more than once each year but the total shall not exceed five (5) days annually. In extraordinary circumstances, the Human Resources Office may approve an extension of serious illness leave. These five (5) work days are not accumulative nor shall they be subtracted for accumulated sick leave.
Serious Illness in Family. Leave will be granted in the case of serious illness up to 10 days for spouse and children, 5 days for parents and brothers and sisters. Under extraordinary circumstances leave can be extended. Leave granted under this subdivision shall be deducted from the principal's accumulated sick leave. Leave under this provision shall be consistent with Minnesota Statute l8.9413 Parenting Leave Act.

Where it is reasonable to do so, an Employee shall inform an Employee's immediate supervisor in advance of an Employee's requirement to take leave in clause In to clause the College may approve a request for leave with pay for up five (5) additional clays in any year in the event of serious illness in the immediate family. Such request shall not be unreasonably denied. Immediate in clause means father, mother, brother. sister, spouse (gender inclusive), children, grandchildren, grandparents, son-in- law, daughter-in-law, sister-in-law, brother-in-law, guardian, of the Employee, any relative living in the household of the Employee.
