The Superintendent shall be the Chief Administrative Officer of the District and shall perform all of the duties of and possess all of the authority now or hereafter granted to a Superintendent of Schools under the Education Law or any other law, rule, regulation or order of the State of New York, under any law, rule, regulation or order of the United States, under the provisions of any Rule of the New York State Board of Regents, under the Regulations and decisions of the Commissioner of Education and under decisions of the courts of the State of New York and the United States.

Superintendent’s Duties and Responsibilities. The Superintendent shall be the chief executive officer of the District and shall, subject to review and approval of the Board, perform all of the duties as are customarily and generally associated with the position of Superintendent of Schools as more particularly set forth in the laws of the State of New York, including though not limited to, Section 1711 of the Education Law, regulations of the New York State Commissioner of Education, Title 8 NYCRR, and the policies, rules and regulations of the District as are presently or hereafter in effect. Moreover, and consistent with Section 211-b(5)(a) of the New York State Education Law, the Superintendent shall cooperate fully with any distinguished educators appointed by the Commissioner of Education. The Superintendent shall, subject to the approval of the Board: direct and assign teachers and other employees of the schools under his supervision; organize, reorganize and arrange the administrative and supervisory staff, including instruction and business affairs; suggest regulations, rules, and procedures deemed necessary for the well ordering of the School District; perform all duties incident to the office of the Superintendent; and, such other duties as are consistent with those associated with the office of the Superintendent as may be prescribed by the Board from time to time. The Superintendent shall provide annual written evaluations of the members of the Administrative staff. Attendance at Board Meetings: The Superintendent shall have the right to attend all meetings of the Board, including executive sessions of the Board, except that the Board may exclude the Superintendent from any portion of a meeting during which they are discussing his conduct, performance or salary. Referral of Concerns: The Board, individually and collectively, shall promptly refer to the Superintendent for his study and recommendation, such criticisms, complaints, suggestions, communications or comments as it deems appropriate regarding the administration of the District or the Superintendent’s performance of his duties. Similarly, the Superintendent shall keep the Board apprised of such incidents, developments or other significant concerns relating to the administration of the District.

The Superintendent hereby agrees to perform faithfully the duties of a Superintendent of Schools under the direction of the Board pursuant to Section 1711 of the Education Law, and to serve as Chief Executive Officer of the District, with the authority granted to her under the statutes of the State of New York, the Rules of the Board of Regents and the Regulations of the Commissioner of Education. During the term of her employment, she will devote her entire business time to the affairs of her office; provided, however, that she may use outside time for professional activities, such as consulting or lecturing, which activities may not interfere with her obligations as Superintendent of Schools. She shall receive approval from the Board President in advance of such activities, except in the case of instructing an evening graduate course, in which event prior notice to the Board, rather than its prior approval, shall be required.

The Superintendent shall devote his full time, skill, labor and attention to the discharge of his duties during the term of this Agreement, except that the Superintendent may engage in other professional activities such as consulting or teaching, upon notice to the Board as long as such activities do not interfere with the full and faithful discharge of the Superintendent's duties or responsibilities or conflict with the mission of the District.
