Teacher – Focused Term(s). The head administrator shall evaluate teachers in part on their use of inquiry- based learning. Staff training tends to vary, depending on focus points within the program. Of recurring theme, many trainings have taken place to grow staff’s ability to handle conflict using Restorative Practices. These skills have largely grown from Restorative Justice programs that began in legal systems and have commonly translated into many school systems. Each year, training is provided to all staff that are responsible for students in the wilderness. Many individual teachers have sought training as Wilderness First Responders, a rigorous first aid type training that is geared toward providing care in remote locations such as the wilderness. The school will provide professional development to teachers that expands the instructor’s understanding of Common Core State Standards, diagnostic tools and use of short cycle assessment data. The teacher’s professional development plans will include staffs’ review of curricula, curricular alignment to appropriate standards and improvement in pedagogy.

[Develop annual PEPs with academic and social emotional goals in collaboration with all students and their families; distribute weekly classroom updates to families; conduct Out of School Instruction (OSIs) experiences for all students each year; complete 10 hours of training annually in gender specific education strategies; implement attend weekly Academy meetings in order to collaborate with colleagues, discuss/disaggregate student assessment data, request instructional support as necessary, work with school leadership to increase instructional effectiveness; implement locally developed curriculum components (currently includes Route 66 and STEAM focused units); prepare students for scheduled power sessions. ;

All New America School-NM staff will be required to hold a TESOL certification, or complete a minimum of four credit hours per year towards a TESOL certification until the certification is attained. • There will be monthly job-embedded Professional Development • Teachers will be trained in Professional Learning Community tenets and be active participants as assigned. • All staff will utilize academic and behavioral interventions and supports as identified by the Response to Intervention model. • All staff will participate in quarterly home/work visits with families of students identified as most at-risk, based on attendance, academic performance, and behavior.
Teacher – Focused Term(s). The school offers all teachers and instructional staff no less than 75 hours of professional development during the school year. The professional development topics will include, but not be limited to the following: academic success in the online learning environment, classroom management, supporting students with learning differences, and more.
Teacher – Focused Term(s). Teachers and administrator participate in an annual PLC, conducted monthly and incorporated into teacher contracts. The PLC topic is determined by collaborative decision making and is based on needs assessment and school wide data analysis for the school year. The PLC is directly related to instructional practice and student learning, is teacher-lead, and provides on-going peer observations and feedback.
