Temporary Faculty. Temporary faculty (substitutes) shall be paid on a monthly basis, from the first day of assignment, limited to a maximum salary equal to Step 8 in Class I when such assignment occurs under one of the following conditions:
A. To replace a contract or regular faculty member who is on leave of absence for one semester or longer, when such replacement requires the temporary faculty member to work more than 67% of a full-time assignment; or
Temporary Faculty. 27.1 For the purposes of Article 27, temporary faculty are those faculty that are not contract or regular faculty as defined by the Education Code. Temporary faculty are those faculty members hired as categorical, long-term substitute, short-term temporaries, temporary replacements, demand temporaries, disability leave replacements, sabbatical leave replacements, and load banking leave replacements. However, any faculty member that is entitled to earn tenure (e.g., EOPS and DSPS) shall not be considered a “temporary employee” for purposes of Article 27.
27.2 Temporary faculty do not earn time of service credit towards attainment of status of a regular or contract faculty, and do not earn time of service credit towards seniority. Refer to Education Code §87470.
27.3 Temporary faculty members are defined and recognized as being members of the Association; however, temporary faculty members hired on or after July 1, 2005, are specifically excluded from the following articles of this Agreement:
Temporary Faculty. A temporary faculty member shall be entitled to be converted to regular status where the temporary faculty member has worked not less than two consecutive academic years immediately preceding regularization with an annual workload of fifty percent (50%) or greater with work in each of the fall and spring semesters in each of those two consecutive academic years, provided:

1. All contract disputes pertaining to Article 19.2 shall be subject to advisory arbitration only.
2. All other matters pertaining to non-permanent employees under Article 19 will be eligible for binding arbitration for part-time faculty members, only if the temporary faculty member has received two (2) consecutive satisfactory evaluations or has been given an assignment for eight (8) semesters with no negative evaluations.
Temporary Faculty. The Committee Report for temporary faculty with dissenting opinions shall be reviewed by his/her Division Chairperson and by a representative from the evaluatee’s Department.
Temporary Faculty. 1. Roles, Appointment and Duration
a. Role: Temporary faculty members play an important role in providing (1) staffing flexibility within instructional units and (2) specialized expertise of working professionals.
b. Appointment Rank:
(1) Adjunct, affiliate, and visiting faculty members are awarded temporary appointments at professional and professorial ranks and hired on term-to-term or fixed term appointments based on the requirements of the position and the criteria in Faculty Bylaws 5.100.
(2) Lecturers are individuals with terminal degree (or its professional equivalent for certain adjunct appointments) who have assignments that include significant mentoring and advising responsibilities and a significant measure of responsibility for graduate education. Lecturer assignments may also include upper division instruction.

1 1. Part-time temporary faculty members may be employed up to five (5) days per week.
Temporary Faculty. The Committee Report shall constitute the Final Report. In such cases, the review as described in 14.3.2.7 shall be completed no later than the end of the sixth week of the semester following the evaluation.
Temporary Faculty. A temporary faculty member is one who is assigned two or more continuous teaching blocks each of three months or greater and with a workload within each of 50% or greater with no breaks greater than 31 days between the blocks. Earned vacation and P.D. arising from the initial qualifying period may be scheduled in between teaching and accountable time assignments to maintain continuity of benefits. When temporary positions are not identified in advance, contract faculty who subsequently qualify as above will be made temporary retroactive to the qualifying date.

(2) Lecturers are individuals who have limited formal academic preparation but whose professional achievements and experience are particularly valuable to the institution. Lecturers are only awarded temporary appointments, normally for 1-4 courses per year. FTE is computed based on the fraction of 15 ELU per term, for those hired on term-to- term appointments, and on 44-45 FTE per year, for those hired on fixed term appointments.
