Abuse or Excessive Use of Sick Leave. The City may require competent proof of an employee’s illness, disability, or of an employee’s need to attend a member of his/her immediate family when it has reason to suspect that an employee is abusing sick leave. Reasons for suspecting abuse of sick leave may include any of the following: (1) A pattern of sick leave usage such as repeated use of sick leave in conjunction with regular days off or holidays, without a medical professional’s statement. (2) A pattern of sick leave usage such as repeated use of sick leave on a particular day of the week. (3) Repeated use of sick leave benefits as they are earned, without a medical professional’s statement. (4) Use of more sick leave than accrued in any twelve (12) month period, without a medical professional’s statement. (5) Using sick leave and engaging in activities which indicate the ability to work. (6) Any use of sick leave not in compliance with reasons for which such leave may be used, as in Section 11.2A, shall constitute abuse. Any abuse may be subject to denial of sick leave pay to progressive discipline.

Abuse or Excessive Use of Sick Leave. The parties recognize that abuse of sick leave days interferes with the Department’s productivity and is unfair to the great majority of officers with good attendance records. The parties pledge to devote their best and continuing efforts to develop and maintain a system for monitoring sick leave days usage and for providing a reasonable degree of assurance that sick leave days are not abused. The Employer recognizes the unique aspects of police work, and therefore the impracticality of employing those procedures used for controlling sick leave abuse among other employees in the service of the City of Springfield. In developing procedures for controlling sick leave abuse among officers, the Employer shall consult with and seek the participation of the PBPA.
Abuse or Excessive Use of Sick Leave. It is understood that the abuse of sick leave shall constitute just cause for progressive disciplinary action, up to and including discharge. In this regard, it is both the responsibility as well as the intent of the City to take such corrective action. Xxxx leave will not be granted to an employee for the purpose of being compensated for employment elsewhere. Employees who engage in employment elsewhere during such leaves will be terminated by the City.

  • Abuse of Sick Leave Misuse of leave, violation of orders, directives, or contractual requirements concerning the use of sick leave and other forms of leave used in lieu of sick leave are cause for disciplinary action.

  • Use of Sick Leave Sick leave is available the first day of the pay period following the pay period in which it was earned, and is taken in units of one-tenth (1/10) of one hour. Use of sick leave is subject to the approval of the appointing authority. Upon request of an employee, the appointing authority may allow the substitution of three (3) or more days of sick leave for paid vacation, provided the employee furnishes a doctor's statement or other satisfactory evidence that the employee was ill or injured for three (3) or more consecutive days.

  • Sick Leave Use An employee shall be granted sick leave with pay to the extent of the employee's accumulation for absences necessitated by the following conditions:

  • Paid Sick Leave For those jurisdictions that have passed or will pass legislation requiring Paid Sick Leave, Paid Sick Time will be billed back to Client at the straight-time bill rate for all hours taken by any Consultant assigned to Client. This section is not applicable until the effective date of such legislation has been reached.

  • Uses of Sick Leave a. Sick leave shall be accrued before being taken, provided that an employee who participates in a sick leave pool shall not be prohibited from using sick leave otherwise available to the employee through the sick leave pool. b. Sick leave shall be authorized for the following: i. The employee's personal illness or exposure to a contagious disease, which would endanger others. ii. The employee's personal appointments with a health care provider. iii. The illness or injury of a member of the employee's immediate family, at the discretion of the supervisor. Approval of requests for use of reasonable amounts of sick leave for caring for a member of the employee's immediate family shall not be unreasonably withheld. "Immediate family" means the spouse and the grandparents, parents, brothers, sisters, children, and grandchildren of both the employee and the spouse, and dependents living in the household.

  • Reinstatement of Vacation Days - Sick Leave In the event an employee is sick or injured prior to the commencement of his/her vacation, such employee shall be granted sick leave and the vacation period so displaced shall be added to the vacation period if requested by the employee and by mutual agreement, or shall be reinstated for use at a later date.

  • Use of Volunteers The School covenants and represents that all volunteers it allows access to its students or the Facility will comply with state regulations regarding the use of volunteers set out in Section 6.50.18

  • Accrual of Sick Leave a. A full-time employee shall accrue four (4) hours of sick leave for each biweekly pay period, or the number of hours that are directly proportionate to the number of days worked during less than a full-pay period, without limitation as to the total number of hours that may be accrued. b. A part-time employee shall accrue sick leave at a rate directly proportionate to the percent of time employed. c. An employee appointed under Other Personal Services (OPS) shall not accrue sick leave.

  • Use of Vacation 23.2.2.1 Academic staff members may use vacation at times approved by the Xxxx which shall not interfere with the operation of the College. Except under unusual circumstances, members shall not be permitted to use vacation during a period of time when they are engaged in the instructional process, including the supervision and grading of exams. Notwithstanding the aforementioned provision, a member may use the maximum entitlement at any one time. 23.2.2.2 Upon written request to the Xxxx, an academic staff member may carry over unused vacation entitlement earned in one academic year to the next academic year, provided it will not interfere with the operation of the unit. All carried over vacation must then be used in the year into which it is carried over. 23.2.2.3 Academic staff members must use vacation (four, five or six weeks, or pro-rata) yearly according to the provisions of this clause, and no arrangements may be made for payment in lieu, during the course of employment. With confirmation of the Xxxx, where all vacation credits were not used in advance of termination, the balance will be paid to the academic staff member. The maximum amount of payout shall be limited to the current year’s entitlement.

  • Overtime Meals When employees are required to work more than two (2) hours beyond their regular work days, the Employer will provide hot meals at no cost to the employees, up to a maximum of sixteen dollars ($16.00) (receipts to be submitted) plus paid meal periods of one-half (1/2) hour at the prevailing rate and thereafter at four (4) hour intervals. Any early morning start before regular starting time is entitled to a paid meal. The breakfast limit is thirteen dollars ($13.00) (receipts to be submitted). Employees called out on overtime shall be paid for meals as above, after four (4) hours work.
