The ARTICLE COMPASSIONATE LEAVE clause establishes an employee's right to take time off work in the event of serious personal circumstances, such as the illness or death of a close family member. ARTICLE COMPASSIONATE LEAVE. An employee shall be granted a compassionate leave of absence of three consecutively scheduled work days with pay upon application to the Employer in the event of a death of a member of the employee’s immediate family. The term immediate family shall mean, parents, step- parents, spouse, common law spouse, child, step-child, brother, sister, mother-in-law, father-in-law, grandparents, grandparents-in-law, grandchild,sister-in-law,brother-in-law,daughter-in-▇▇▇▇▇▇ son-in-law. It is understood and agreed that a bereaved employee may request and be granted additional time off without pay for the purpose of travel and or other matters related to the estate of the deceased. ARTICLE SALARIES AND PREMIUMS Attached hereto and forming part of this Agreement is Schedule “A” which sets out the classifications of and salaries to be paid to employees. Employees working the afternoon shift or the night shift prior to a normal pay day shall be paid on the completion of such shift. Effective January an employee will be paid a shift premium of cents per hour for each hour worked when the majority of such hours that are worked falls between and hours the following day. A premium of hour will be maintained for employees who as of September possessed a Health Care Aide Certificate but were employed in a classification other than Health Care Aide. The further application of this premium is discontinued as of this date and employees will be paid solely according to the rate in Schedule A for the classification that they occupy.
ARTICLE COMPASSIONATE LEAVE. It is agreed that after an employee his or her period, the employer shall grant three (3) consecutive days leave of absence with pay for the purpose of attending the funeral or making other arrangementson the death of the employee's spouse, parent, child, sister, brother. grandchild, mother-in-law.father-in-law, brother-in-law, sister-in-law or common-law spouse. One (Id)ay's of absence with pay shall be granted on death of the employee's grandparent for purpose of attending the funeral. If a bereavementleave referred to in this Article coincides with vacations or other days on which the employee would not normally work, no payment shall be made by the employer. In the event an employee cannot attend the funeral of any of the relatives described in or the company shall grant one (Id)ay's leave of absence with Payment shall be made at the employee's regular straight hourly wage rate based on the number of normal hours of work the employee would otherwise have worked. The employer reserves the right to request proof of bereavement,
ARTICLE COMPASSIONATE LEAVE. An employee shall be entitled to a leave of absence without loss of pay and no deduction of sick leave credits up to a maximum of five (5) working days within seven (7) consecutive calendar days when grieving a death in the immediate family. The immediate family shall be defined as spouse, son, daughter, father, mother, sister, brother, grandchild and any person who stands in loco parentis. An employee may be granted a leave of absence without loss of pay and no deduction of sick leave credits up to a maximum of three (3) working days when grieving a death of a mother-in-law, father-in-law, brother-in-law, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, sister-in-law or grandparent. A leave of absence of a full or partial day without loss of salary may be granted by the Administrator of Human Resources when grieving a death of a person other than those persons named in or Request for such a leave must be submitted to the Administrator of Human Resources or delegate for approval at least one day in advance, if possible. Under unusual circumstances, leave for compassionate reasons may be granted without loss of salary and benefits by the Administrator of Human Resources or delegate. Such a leave shall be deducted from the employee’s sick leave. The discretion and consideration of requests for compassionate leave shall continue to be provided in compliance with the requirements of the Employment Insurance Regulations. In the event of the death of a member of an employee’s immediate family (as defined in occurring while on scheduled vacation, the compassionate leave provision of “1 a)’’ will prevail and the be rescheduled.
ARTICLE COMPASSIONATE LEAVE. In the event of a serious illness in the immediate of a teacher as set out in the Bereavement Leave provision (numbers through the fill salary of a teacher will be paid during the absence for up to two (2) teaching days.
ARTICLE COMPASSIONATE LEAVE. In the event of the death of a wife, husband or child, compassionate leave with pay not exceeding four (4) days (32 hours) shall be granted by the Chief of Police to the member. In the event of the death of a father, mother, brother, sister, father-in-law, mother-in-law, brother-in-law, sister-in-law and grandparents of either the member or the spouse compassionate leave with pay not exceeding three (3) days (24 hours) shall be granted by the Chief of Police to the member. The compassionate leave granted may include a days off which have been posted in accordance with Section Posted days off are not to be altered to form part of the compassionate leave unless the member so consents. Any further compassionate leave may only be granted upon the authority of the Board and upon such terms as the Board deems advisable.
ARTICLE COMPASSIONATE LEAVE. CompassionateLeave With Shall be Awarded to an Employee as Follows: In the case of the death of an employee’s mother, father, brother, sister, child, spouse, common law spouse, parents of common law spouse, legal guardian, grandmother, grandfather, ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇, father-in-law, mother-in-law, or near relative living in the same household, twenty-two point five (22.5) hours. For the purposes of this article, a “common law spouse” relationship is said to exist when, for a continuous period of at least one (1) year, an employee has lived with a person of the opposite or same sex, publicly represented that person to be spouse and lives and intends to continue to live with that person as if that person were spouse. In the case of a son-in-law, daughter-in-law, brother-in-law or sister-in-law, seven point five (7.5) hours. If the death of a relative referred to in Clause occurs outside the Province the employee may be granted leave with pay not exceeding thirty (30) hours for the purpose of attending the funeral, In cases where extraordinary circumstances prevail, the Employer at discretion, may grant special leave with pay for bereavement up to a maximum of fifteen (15) hours in addition to that provided in Clauses and Special compassionate leave without pay may be granted with the approval of the Employer.
ARTICLE COMPASSIONATE LEAVE. An employee shall be granted leave without loss of wages at the discretion of the Department Head when a death occurs in the immediate family of an employee. The immediate family is defined as parent, wife, husband, brother, sister, child, mother-in-law, father-in-law, g ndparents s ; and brother- The following guidelines will apply for paid bereavement leave:

Where an employee suffers a death in immediate family, husband, wife, brother, sister, mother, father, son, daughter or some other relative or person with whom the employee has experienced a very close relationship ordinarily subscribed to that of an immediate member of the family, compassionate leave may be granted for one two (2) or three (3) days. Four (4) days will be granted if out-of-province travel is required.

If a death occurs i n the immediate family of an employee when said employee is at work, then said employee shall be granted compassionate leave with pay for the remainder of his tour of duty for that day. If a death occurs in the immediate family of an employee, said employee shall be granted five ( 5 ) days of leave of absence effective midnight following the death and shall be paid for tours of duty the employee would be normally scheduled to work during the five ( 5 ) days leave i f the death had not occurred. An employee who would be on leave of absence other than compassionate leave shall not be eligible for compassionate leave with pay. An employee on sick leave with pay shall not be eligible for compassionate leave with pay. An employee on vacation with pay shall not be eligible for compassionate leave with pay while on vacation. An employee when for any reason other than compassionate leave would not be considered to be at work, if a death in the immediate family should occur, shall not be eligible for compassionate leave with pay. For the purpose of ascertaining compassionate leave pay, members of an employee's immediate family shall include father, mother, sister, brother, husband, wife, spouse, son, daughter, mother-in-law, and father-in-law. One day compassionate leave with pay shall be granted on the day of the funeral of the grandparents, grandchild, brother-in-law or sister-in-law of the employee providing such day is a scheduled work day. Such leave is granted to the employee for the purpose of attending the funeral and other related matters of the deceased relative.
