ARTICLE COMPASSIONATE LEAVE. (a) An employee shall be entitled to a leave of absence without loss of pay and no deduction of sick leave credits up to a maximum of five (5) working days within seven (7) consecutive calendar days when grieving a death in the immediate family. The immediate family shall be defined as spouse, son, daughter, father, mother, sister, brother, grandchild and any person who stands in loco parentis. An employee may be granted a leave of absence without loss of pay and no deduction of sick leave credits up to a maximum of three (3) working days when grieving a death of a mother-in-law, father-in-law, brother-in-law, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, sister-in-law or grandparent. A leave of absence of a full or partial day without loss of salary may be granted by the Administrator of Human Resources when grieving a death of a person other than those persons named in or Request for such a leave must be submitted to the Administrator of Human Resources or delegate for approval at least one day in advance, if possible. Under unusual circumstances, leave for compassionate reasons may be granted without loss of salary and benefits by the Administrator of Human Resources or delegate. Such a leave shall be deducted from the employee’s sick leave. The discretion and consideration of requests for compassionate leave shall continue to be provided in compliance with the requirements of the Employment Insurance Regulations. In the event of the death of a member of an employee’s immediate family (as defined in occurring while on scheduled vacation, the compassionate leave provision of “1 a)’’ will prevail and the be rescheduled.

ARTICLE COMPASSIONATE LEAVE. Upon request to the Chief of Police a Member shall be granted days compassionate leave with pay those days which f a l l on h i s OK her scheduled working days for the purpose of attending the funeral of a member of h i s or her immediate family and t o attend to family matters concerned with the death of such family member. ARTICLE COMPASSIONATE LEAVE. Employees shall be entitled to the following compassionate leave of absence with pay: In the event of the death of a spouse, child, (including child under legal guardianship), mother, father, or sibling, five (5) days shall be granted. In the event of the death of a parent-in-law, daughter-in-law, son-in-law, grandparent or grandchild, three (3) days shall be granted. In the event of the death of an aunt, uncle, niece, nephew, brother-in-law or sister-in-law, one (1) working day shall be granted. In the event an employee is required as a pall bearer, one (1) day will be granted on notification to Management. Such employee will be required to provide proof of such attendance when requested by Management. When the death of such relatives occurs outside the North American Continent, the bereavement leave will extend for three (3) calendar days commencing from the date of receipt of the notification of the death. Such notification must be presented to the Board immediately upon receipt by the employee. Proof of death will be supplied to the Board within thirty (30) days of the relative’s death. Working days shall mean days scheduled to work and shall not include Saturdays, Sundays, Vacation, Holidays, Sick Leave or Leave of Absence. Where an employee is a proven Executor of the will in Canada, one (1)additional day after the funeral will be granted. In the event of a death of any employee within the bargaining unit, the Chief Xxxxxxx or Assistant Chief Xxxxxxx, or designated Union member will be granted four (4) hours off, without loss of pay, to attend the funeral provided the funeral is within the normal shift hours of the person attending the funeral. If extra time is required, employees shall make prior application to the Employer for an extension of this allotment. Each request is to be considered on its merits. Compassionate leave, with pay and without loss of sick leave credits, shall be granted by the Director of Education for the following reasons:

An employee who intends to request compassionate care leave shall make every effort to provide reasonable notice to the Employer. An employee returning to work from compassionate care leave retains service credits accumulated prior to taking leave. Leave granted under this Article shall be counted for the calculation of continuous employment. If an employee elects to maintain coverage for group benefits, the Employer will pay its portion of the group benefits premiums provided the employee provides the Employer with post-dated cheques or money orders for the employee's portion of the group benefits premiums for the anticipated duration of leave under this Article. ARTICLE COMPASSIONATE LEAVE. CompassionateLeave With Shall be Awarded to an Employee as Follows: In the case of the death of an employee’s mother, father, brother, sister, child, spouse, common law spouse, parents of common law spouse, legal guardian, grandmother, grandfather, xxxxxxxxxx, father-in-law, mother-in-law, or near relative living in the same household, twenty-two point five (22.5) hours. For the purposes of this article, a “common law spouse” relationship is said to exist when, for a continuous period of at least one (1) year, an employee has lived with a person of the opposite or same sex, publicly represented that person to be spouse and lives and intends to continue to live with that person as if that person were spouse. In the case of a son-in-law, daughter-in-law, brother-in-law or sister-in-law, seven point five (7.5) hours. If the death of a relative referred to in Clause occurs outside the Province the employee may be granted leave with pay not exceeding thirty (30) hours for the purpose of attending the funeral, In cases where extraordinary circumstances prevail, the Employer at discretion, may grant special leave with pay for bereavement up to a maximum of fifteen (15) hours in addition to that provided in Clauses and Special compassionate leave without pay may be granted with the approval of the Employer.
ARTICLE COMPASSIONATE LEAVE. In the event of a death of an employee's spouse, child, parent, step child or step parent the employee shall be granted such time off without loss of regular pay as may be required to enable the employee to have five (5) working days within an eight (8) calendar day period beginning with the date of death. In the event of the death of an employee's sister, brother, grandparents, grandchildren, mother-in-law, father-in-law, the employee shall be granted such time off without loss of regular pay as may be required to enable the employee to have three (3) working days within an eight (8) calendar day period beginning with the date of death. In the event of the death of an employee's son-in-law, daughter-in-law, sister-in- law or brother-in-law, the employee shall be granted such time off without loss of regular pay as may be required to enable the employee to have one (1) working day within an eight (8) calendar day period beginning with the date of death. A member of his or her immediate family shall include: Parent, Step-parent, Spouse, Common-In-Law Spouse, Sibling, Step-Sibling, Child, Step-Child, Parent-In-Law, and Grandparent. One (1) day off with pay shall be granted only to attend the funeral of a Member's Brother-In-Law, Sister-In-Law, Aunt or Uncle. At the discretion of the Chief of Police, additional days to those allowed under Article may be granted pursuant to Articles and ARTICLE EDUCATION ALLOWANCE A Member who attends a course of study approved by the Board shall receive an interest free loan to pay the tuition fee which loan will be forgiven on successful completion of the course, or re-paid if the Member does not complete the course successfully. The provisions of Article may also, subject to the discretion of the Board, be applied to the cost of text books and materials required for an approved course. A Member attending classes and required to reside away from his or her usual abode shall receive a Five ($5.00) Dollar per day allowance to a maximum of Twenty-Five ($25.00) Dollars for each completed week. Members who use their own automobiles to attend courses of instruction outside the Region which they are required by the Board to attend will receive mileage at the rate of Thirty-Three Cents per kilometer subject to the following conditions:
