ARTICLE COMPASSIONATE LEAVE. An employee shall be granted a compassionate leave of absence of five consecutively scheduled work days with pay upon application to the Employer in the event of a death of a member of the immediate family. The term immediate family shall mean, parents, step-parents, spouse, common law spouse, child and step-child. For brother, sister, mother-in-law, father-in- law, grandparents, grandparents-in-law,grandchild, sister-in-law, brother-in-law, daughter-in-law and son-in-law the employee shall be granted a compassionate leave of absence of three consecutively scheduled work days with pay upon application to the Employer. It is understood and agreed that a bereaved employee may request and be granted additional time off without pay for the purpose of travel and or other matters related to the estate of the deceased. Attached hereto and forming part of this Collective Agreement is Schedule which sets out the classifications of and salaries to be paid to employees. Employees working the afternoon shift or the night shift prior to a normal pay day shall be paid on the completion of such shift. Effective January a weekend shift premium of per hour worked between Friday and Sunday will be paid. A premium of per hour will be maintained for employees who as of September I, possessed a Health Care Aide Certificate but were employed in a classification other than Health Care Aide. The application of this premium is discontinued as of this date and employees will be paid solely according to the rate in Schedule A for the classification that they occupy. The Employer agrees to pay the registration fee.
ARTICLE COMPASSIONATE LEAVE. An employee shall be entitled to a leave of absence without loss of pay and no deduction of sick leave credits up to a maximum of five (5) working days within seven consecutive calendar days when grieving a death in the immediate family. The immediate family shall be defined as spouse, son, daughter, father, mother, sister or brother, grandchild and any person who stands in loco parentis. An employee shall be granted a leave of absence without loss of pay and no deduction of sick leave credits up to a maximum of three (3) working days when grieving a death of a mother-in-law, father-in-law, brother-in-law, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, sister-in-law, or grandparent. A leave of absence of a full or partial day without loss of pay may be granted by the Administrator of Human Resources or delegate when grieving a death of a person other than those persons named in or This permission will not be unreasonably denied. Under unusual circumstances, leave for compassionate reasons may be granted without loss of pay and benefits by the Administrator of Human Resources or delegate. Such a leave shall be deducted from the employee’s sick leave. The and consideration of requests for compassionate leave shall continue to be provided in compliance with the requirements of the Employment Insurance Regulations. Requests for such a leave must be submitted to the Administrator of Human Resources, for approval at least one (1) day in advance, if possible. In the event of the death of a member of an employee’s immediate family as defined in occurring while on scheduled vacation, the compassionate leave provision of will prevail and the vacation will be rescheduled.
ARTICLE COMPASSIONATE LEAVE. It is agreed that after an employee has completed his or her probationary period, the employer shall grant three (3) consecutive days leave of absence with pay for the purpose of attending the funeral or making other arrangements on the death of the employee's spouse, parent, child, sister, brother, grandchild, mother-in-law, father-in-law, brother-in-law, sister-in-law or common-law spouse. One day's leave of absence with pay shall be granted on the death of the employee's grandparent for the purpose of attending the funeral. If a bereavement leave referred to in this Article coincides with vacations or other days on which the employee would not normally work, no payment shall be made by the employer. In the event an employee cannot attend the funeral of any of the relatives described in or the company shall grant one day's leave of absence with Payment shall be made at the employee’s regular straight time hourly wage rate based on the number of normal hours of work the employee would otherwise have worked. A regular employee shall be entitled to two days of leave for the purpose of attending the funeral; of his grandfather, grandmother, mother- in-law, father- in- law, or any relative who, until death, resided with the employee unless the funeral falls on a Monday or a Friday, in which case the number of days of paid leave shall be one. ARTICLE COMPASSIONATE LEAVE. Where an employee suffers a death in immediate family, husband, wife, brother, sister, mother, father, son, daughter or some other relative or person with whom the employee has experienced a very close relationship ordinarily subscribed to that of an immediate member of the family, compassionate leave may be granted for one two (2) or three (3) days. Four (4) days will be granted if out-of-province travel is required.
ARTICLE COMPASSIONATE LEAVE. An employee shall be entitled to compassionate leave of four (4) scheduled shifts leave the event of the death of a parent, spouse or child. An employee shall be entitled to compassionate leave of three (3) scheduled shifts leave in the event of the death of a brother, sister, xxxx of the employee, or relative permanently residing in the employee’s household or with whom the employee permanently resides. An employee shall be entitled to one (1) scheduled shift leave to attend the of an employee’s father-in-law, mother-in-law, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, uncle, grandchild or grandparent. ARTICLE COMPASSIONATE LEAVE. Upon request to the Chief of Police, a Member shall be granted three (3) days compassionate leave with pay for those days which fall on his or her scheduled working days for the purpose of attending the funeral of a member of his or her immediate family and to attend to family matters concerned with the death of such family member. A member of his or her immediate family shall include: Parent, Step-parent, Spouse, Common-In-Law Spouse, Sibling, Step-Sibling, Child, Step-Child, Parent-In-Law, and Grandparent. One (1) day off with pay shall be granted only to attend the funeral of a Member's Brother-In-Law, Sister-In-Law, Aunt or Uncle. At the discretion of the Chief of Police, additional days to those allowed under Article may be granted pursuant to Articles and A Member who attends a course of study approved by the Board shall receive an interest free loan to pay the tuition fee which loan will be forgiven on successful completion of the course, or re-paid if the Member does not complete the course successfully. The provisions of Article may also, subject to the discretion of the Board, be applied to the cost of text books and materials required for an approved course. A Member attending classes and required to reside away from his or her usual abode shall receive a Five ($5.00) Dollar per day allowance to a maximum of Twenty-Five ($25.00) Dollars for each completed week. Members who use their own automobiles to attend courses of instruction outside the Region which they are required by the Board to attend will receive mileage at the rate of Thirty-Three Cents per kilometer subject to the following conditions:
