ARTICLE SPECIAL LEAVE. An employee will be granted special leave with pay for the following reasons:
ARTICLE SPECIAL LEAVE. (a) An employee, other than an employee who is on retiring leave, shall be credited with forty five (45) hours, (six (6 )days) special leave credits upon commencement of first year of service and upon commencement of each continuous year of service thereafter up to a maximum of two hundred and twenty five (225) hours (thirty (30) days). Notwithstanding the above, a multiple of less than forty-five (45) hours (six (6) days) may be credited to an employee where such lesser multiple will be necessary to either bring to the maximum or maintain the maximum credit of two hundred and twenty five (225) hours (thirty (30) days).
ARTICLE SPECIAL LEAVE. An shall earn special leave credits up to a maximum of twenty-five (25) days at the rate of dayfor each calendar month in which he received pay for at least ten days. As credits used, they may continue to be earned up to the maximum. For the purposes of this Article, immediate family is defined as an employee's father, mother, brother, sister, spouse, common-law spouse, child, father-in-law, mother-in- law, grandchildren, grandparents, aunt, uncle and any relative permanently residing in the employee's household or with whom the employee permanently resides. The Employer shall special leave earned with pay for a period of up to five (5) consecutive days:

ARTICLE SPECIAL LEAVE. Employees not on leave of absence without pay shall be entitled to special leave at their regular rate of pay for leave under circumstances listed below:
ARTICLE SPECIAL LEAVE. Special Leave may be with or without pay and includes all leaves of a type not specified in other Articles of this Collective Agreement. Special Leave, with or without pay may be granted by the University of New Brunswick to an Employee at any time for any period of time. For Special Leave of less than days, application shall be made to the Chairperson. For special leave of days or more, application shall be made to the Xxxx. Applications for leaves without pay for a period of six (6) months or more shall be made in writing to the Xxxx or Director of Libraries (Fredericton) and shall require the approval of the Vice-president (Academic) or the Vice-president (Saint Xxxx) and the President and the Board of Governors. Applicants for leaves without pay of six (6) months or more shall be evaluated by the Assessment Committees as set out in Article Applications for leave without pay for six (6) months or more shall be directed to the Xxxx or Director of (Fredericton) no later than nine (9) months before the date of commencement of the desired leave. Applications received with less notice may be considered in exceptional circumstances. Normally, a leave without pay for six (6) months or more shall be taken without interruption starting on July or January, or as otherwise approved by the University of New Brunswick. The University of New Brunswick shall inform Employees of its decision with respect to applications for a leave without pay for six (6) months or more, at least six (6) months prior to the date of of the leave, or such shorter period as necessitated by the approval of a late application under An Employee who wishes to withdraw an approved leave without pay for six (6) months or more shall indicate in writing to the Xxxx, normally no later than three (3) months prior to the proposed commencement date for the leave. The University may deny the request if a contract has been offered for a replacement. Leave without not exceed two (2) consecutive years. An Employee granted a leave without pay shall continue to be a Member of the Bargaining Unit, and shall be entitled, at option to maintain membership in the University benefit plans. (a) A teacher shall be entitled to Special Leave for a maximum of five (5) days with pay necessitated by each death occurring in the teacher’s immediate family, or that of the teacher’s spouse. Immediate family shall include spouse, parent, child, step-child, step-parent, current mother-in-law, current father-in-law, cur- rent son-in-law, current daughter-in-law, brother, sister, grand- parent, grandchild, former guardian, xxxx, and same sex part- ner. A teacher shall be entitled to Special Leave to a maximum of three (3) days with pay necessitated by each death occurring in the teacher’s non-immediate family. Non-immediate family shall include current sister-in-law, current brother-in-law, aunt, uncle, niece, and nephew Where the burial occurs outside the Province, such leave shall also include reasonable travel time, not to exceed an additional two (2) days. Where the interment or memorial service for immediate fam- ily pursuant to Article is not held within the five (5) day period immediately following the death, one day of the leave may be taken on the date of the interment or memorial service. Non-immediate family shall include current sister-in-law, current brother-in-law, aunt, uncle, xxxxx, and nephew. Where the burial occurs outside the Province, such leave shall also include reasonable travel time, not to exceed an additional two (2) days. Where the interment or memorial service for immediate family pursuant to Article is not held within the five (5) day period immediately following the death, one (1) day of the leave may be taken on the date of the interment or memorial service. ARTICLE SPECIAL LEAVE. A teacher shall be entitled to temporary leave of absence for a maximum of five ( 5 ) days with pay, if \ the teacher absent because of a death or serious ! illness the immediate family of the teacher, or the immediate family of the teacher's spouse. Immediate family shall include spouse, father, mother, son, daughter, brother, sister, grandfather, grandmother, grandson and granddaughter. A teacher shall be entitled to a temporary leave of absence for a maximum of five (5) days with pay the teacher absent because of a death of a son- in-law, daughter-in-law, brother-in-law or sister- in-law. The Board may require a medical report when more than one (1) period of leave for serious illness is requested. With the approval of the Board, teachers shall be entitled to Special Leave for the purpose of any examination leading to higher certification or qualification or improved efficiency. Such leave with pay to be limited to the sessions during which the examinations actually occur. The benefit pursuant to shall be applied where a teacher or spouse was raised by someone other than natural parents. ARTICLE INSURANCE The Board shall pay the teachers' share of the monthly premium of each Nova Scotia Teachers Union Total Care Family Policy for each teacher in the employ of the Board holding such policy.
