MSD OF NORTH XXXXX COUNTY STANDARDS FOR PROPER Chromebook CARE This document is an important addendum to the Student Chromebook Program Acknowledgement Form. Read it carefully prior to signing. You are expected to follow all the specific guidelines listed in this document and take any additional common sense precautions to protect your assigned Chromebook. Loss or damage resulting in failure to abide by the details below may result in full financial responsibility. Following the manufacturer’s advice and the standards below will lead to a Chromebook that will run smoothly and serve as a reliable, useful and enjoyable tool. Your Responsibilities ● Treat this equipment with as much care as if it were your own property. ● Bring the Chromebook and charging unit every school day. ● Keep the Chromebook either locked (i.e., locked in your school locker, home or other secure place where others do not have access) or attended (with you or within your sight) at all times. Keep the Chromebook stored in a secure place (i.e., locked in your school locker) when you cannot directly monitor it. For example, during athletic events, games, practices and trips, store the Chromebook in your school locker and arrange to return to school to retrieve it after the activity. Chromebooks left in bags and backpacks, or in unattended classrooms are considered “unattended” and may be confiscated by school personnel as a protection against theft. Unattended and unlocked equipment, if stolen (even at school) will be your full financial responsibility. ● Avoid use in situations that are conducive to loss or damage. For example, never leave the Chromebook in school buses, in the gym, in a locker room, on playing fields or in other areas where it could be damaged or stolen. Parents will be billed for parts only. Annual Device Protection Plan: FJSHS will supply an optional Annual Device Protection Plan each year to students for their device. The Annual Device Protection Plan will cost $35.00. FJSHS will be the sole provider of this plan. Under this plan’s policy the Chromebook is protected against accidental damage or loss due to an act of nature. FJSHS will require that a police report be submitted in cases of theft. Fraudulent reporting of theft will be turned over to the police for prosecution. A student making a false report will also be subject to disciplinary action as outlined by the school discipline code. Annual Device Protection Plan does not cover: ● Damaged or lost AC Adapter & power cord - $30 ● Damaged or lost Protective Shell - $25 ● The loss of the Chromebook, cosmetic damage, or damages caused by intentional misuse and abuse. Fairfield Jr.-Sr. High School will assess the Chromebook damage and repair or replace the device if the damage is determined to be accidental and within the protection guidelines. Parents/Students will be charged for full replacement cost of a device that has been damaged due to intentional misuse or abuse. The user will not be given another device or accessory to use until the replacement cost of the lost/damaged device or accessory is paid to the school.

Sound/Apps ➔ Sound must be muted at all times in classrooms unless directed by the teacher for instructional purposes. ➔ When using a Chromebook in a common area (multi-purpose room, media center, etc), headphones or earbuds should be used if you are needing to use sound. ➔ Only approved apps should be installed. Printing ➔ Students are encouraged to appropriately publish and share their work digitally with their teachers and peers. ➔ Printing permissions will be installed according to building guidelines. Webcams ➔ School Use - Webcams are to be used for educational purposes only. ➔ Home Use - Webcams may be used at home only with the permission and supervision from parents/guardians. ➔ ACSD#1 does not have the ability to remotely access the webcams. Home Access ➔ Students are permitted and encouraged to add their school issued Chromebook to their home WiFi network. This will allow the student to access their stored documents and information, email and complete assignments. ➔ Internet access will still be filtered, but parents are encouraged to monitor home access. ➔ If a student or parent discovers an unsafe site, they are asked to contact the building principal as soon as possible at xxxxxxx@xxxx0.xxx. ➔ Students who do not have WiFi access at home may request a Hot Spot from SRA or use a public WiFi location such as the public library, restaurants, or coffee shops. Use caution when accessing a public connection as not all public locations are secure connections. ➔ Select applications can be used without an internet connection, but for full functionality a WiFi connection is recommended. ➔ Students are not permitted to share their Chromebook with siblings. Issues with your Chromebook ➔ Chromebooks are fast and reliable, but if students experience an issue, they can seek help from SRA’s technology team. SRA will attempt to resolve the issue or it will be referred to a specific technician within ACSD#1’s Technology Department. ➔ Neither SRA nor ACSD#1 can troubleshoot home network issues. ➔ If the Chromebook works at school, but not at home, try using a public location to see if the problem persists. ➔ Do not take your Chromebook to an outside source to be fixed.
