COMPASSIONATE OR SPECIAL LEAVE. 13.1 In the event of the death of a member's wife, husband or child (including a stillbirth), compassionate leave with pay not exceeding five (5) consecutively scheduled work days shall be granted by the Chief of Police to the member. Days off shall be interpreted in accordance with the Member’s regularly scheduled shift, be it eight (8), ten (10) or twelve (12) hours. The timing of such leave is to be at the option of the member, provided that the time is taken in consecutively scheduled work days and is completed not more than twenty-one (21) calendar days after the death. COMPASSIONATE OR SPECIAL LEAVE. 21.01 The Board agrees that members of the Association shall be granted up to three (3) days leave plus traveling time up to three (3) days with pay, in the case of death in the immediate family of the member concerned. Except in extenuating circumstances and subject to the approval of the Chief of Police, the board also agrees that members of the Association shall be granted one (1) day leave to attend the funeral of the member’s brother-in-law or sister-in-law as well as the member’s spouse’s grandparents.

Pregnancy and/or Parental Leave shall be accordance with the Employment Standards Act of Ontario except that a female member who is in receipt of Unemployment Pregnancy and/or Parental benefits shall be paid a supplementary unemployment benefit in an amount which combined with the gross unemployment insurance benefit brings her compensation to of her regular weekly earnings. Such payment shall commence following completion of the two (2) weeks unemployment insurance waiting period and shall continue while the member is absent on Pregnancy and/or Parental Leave and is in receipt of unemployment insurance benefit, for a maximum period of weeks. "Regular weekly earnings" shall be one-half of the member's regular gross earnings, on the date the leave commenced. Pregnancy and/or parental leave shall in accordance with the Employment Standards Act of Ontario and shall be available to all members who have been employed, on a full time basis, for at least thirteen (13) weeks.
