DEFENCE RESERVE LEAVE. An Employee required to complete Defence Reserve service may be granted leave up to a maximum period of 78 weeks’ continuous service. The Employee will consult with the Employer regarding the proposed timing of the service and will give the Employer as much notice as is possible of the time when the service will take place. Where the base salary excluding allowances received by the Employee from the Australian Defence Force or Defence Reserve service during his or her ordinary hours of work is below the Employee’s VPS salary, the Employer will, unless exceptional circumstances arise, pay to the Employee make‑up pay for the period of Defence Reserve service.

DEFENCE RESERVE LEAVE. The Director-General may grant an employee Defence Reserve leave, with or without pay, to enable the employee to fulfil Reserve or full-time Australian Defence Force (ADF) obligations. The Leave Policy provides details on how Defence Reserve leave is to be administered, however Defence Reserve leave shall be no less generous than the advice provided for by the Defence Reserve Support Council.

DEFENCE RESERVE LEAVE. An employee (other than a casual employee) who is a member of the Australian Defence Force Reserves will be granted Defence Reserve leave on full pay each year to undertake Defence service. The employee will be allowed up to 10 working days per calendar year to attend Australian Defence Force Reserves approved training camps or service. This leave can accumulate and be taken over a two-year period. For the purpose of this clause, a ‘year’ means the 12-month period commencing on 1 July and ending the following June. Payment for Defence Reserve leave will be made at the ordinary rate of pay the employee receives immediately before the period of leave begins. An additional two weeksleave without pay will be available for the purposes of attending other required training or service. The employer may, at their discretion, grant additional Defence Reserve leave on a paid or unpaid basis. An employee seeking to take Defence Reserve leave must provide notice to the employer at least one month prior to the period of leave. Defence Reserve leave, whether with or without pay, will be treated as service for all purposes, the exception being that a period or periods of leave without pay in excess of six months will not count as service for the purpose of accruing annual leave.
DEFENCE RESERVE LEAVE. 34.1. An employee may be granted leave (with or without pay) to enable the employee to fulfil Australian Defence Force (ADF) Reserve and Continuous Full Time Service (CFTS) or Cadet Force obligations. 34.2. An employee is entitled to ADF Reserve leave with pay, for up to four weeks during each year for the purpose of fulfilling service in the ADF Reserve. These purposes include training and operational duty as required. o During the employee's first year of ADF Reserve service, a further two weeks paid leave may be granted to facilitate participation in additional ADF Reserve training, including induction requirements. o With the exception of the additional two weeks in the first year of service, leave can be accumulated and taken over a period of two years, to enable the employee to undertake training as a member of the ADF Reserves. o Employees are not required to pay their tax free ADF Reserve salary to the Agency in any circumstances. 34.3. An employee who is an officer or instructor of cadets in a Cadet Force may be granted paid leave of up to three weeks each year to perform duties as an officer or instructor of Cadets. For these purposes ‘Cadet Force’ means the Australian Navy Cadets, Australian Army Cadets, or the Australian Air Force Cadets. 34.4. Defence Reserve leave counts as service for all purposes, except for unpaid leave to undertake Continuous Full Time Service (CFTS). Unpaid leave for the purpose of CFTS counts for all purposes except Annual leave. 34.5. Eligible employees may also apply for Annual leave, long service leave, leave without pay, top-up pay or they may use flextime or make up time for the purpose of fulfilling ADF Reserve, CFTS or Cadet Force obligations. 34.6. Employees are to notify supervisors at the earliest opportunity once the dates for ADF Reserve, CFTS or Cadet Force activities are known and/or changed.
