Departure from Work for Union Business. Except as provided in Section 4.8 above, each xxxxxxx, local lodge officer or district council delegate shall have authorization from the Union, give his/her supervisor at least twenty-four (24)-hour advance notice if possible and clock out prior to departure from his/her work assignment to conduct Union business. If the work assignment given the xxxxxxx, local lodge officer or district council delegate seriously interferes with the performance of his/her duties for the Union, or if Union business seriously interferes with his/her work assignment, the Company and the Union agree to cooperate in making arrangements to prevent such interference in the future. However, stewards, local lodge officers and district council delegates shall not be penalized for such Union business; provided, that nonpayment by the Company for time spent on Union business shall not be considered as a penalty. This Section 4.9 shall apply to cases of stewards who are designated to act for business representatives in accordance with Section 19.13 for the temporary period the xxxxxxx is authorized as a designee.

The Company agrees to grant a leave of absence without pay and without loss of seniority to any employee, not to exceed three (3) employees in number, for the purpose of attending a labor conference, it being further understood that such leaves shall not accumulate to more than ten (10) working days in any calendar year, and that such leaves of absence shall be requested by the employee in writing with as much advance notice as possible and countersigned by the Union. Additional leave or employees will not be unreasonably denied.

Employees who are not officers of Local 2169, Unifor or members of the Shop Committee may be excused from work without pay for Union Business, excluding training, if the request is made in writing, by the President or designate of the Local Union to the employee’s Manager. Should the employee become aware less than three (3) working days prior, such requests must be made immediately. Such absences shall be granted by the Company if operationally feasible.
