Requests for Leave. Except as provided under Section B.3., Family Care/Medical Leave Notification, requests for leaves of absence and extensions, with or without pay, shall be submitted in writing to the University. Such requests shall be submitted sufficiently in advance of the requested leave date to provide the University time to assess the operational impact of granting the request. All requests for leaves of absence shall contain the requested beginning and end date of the leave, and any additional information as required.

Requests for Leave. A request for annual leave shall be submitted to the employee's immediate supervisor on an approved form designated by the Human Resources Division. Leave may be taken only after approved by the employee's division director so that the department/division can function smoothly and efficiently. Annual leave will be granted, when practicable, in line of department/division seniority and in accordance with employee preference, but it is understood that the efficient operation of the Department shall be the first consideration. Leave may only be used as earned and annual leave with pay shall not be allowed in advance of being earned. If an employee has insufficient leave credits to cover a period of absence, no allowance for leave shall be granted in advance or in anticipation of future leave credits. In such cases, payroll deductions for the time lost shall be made for the period during which the absence occurred. Employees may request annual leave after six months of full time regular employment with the County. In the event that an employee's scheduled annual leave must be canceled due to operational needs of the Department, the employee shall be given at least thirty (30) days notice, except in the case of emergencies. Employees must submit a written request for annual leave dates prior to March 1 of each calendar year on a form that will be distributed to all employees no later than January 2 of each calendar year. Once approved, any changes in an employee's annual leave schedule must be approved by his/her division director. No such change shall be unreasonably denied.

Requests for Leave. (a) An employee may request a leave of absence, without pay, and such request shall be submitted, in writing, to his immediate supervisor for approval. Except for unforeseen circumstances, all requests for leave of absence shall be submitted in writing two calendar weeks in advance of the date the leave is to commence. Approval for such leaves shall not be unreasonably withheld. (b) Notwithstanding any provision for the leave in this agreement, the Employer will grant leave of absence, without pay to an employee requesting leave for an emergency, maternity or other acceptable circumstance. (c) All leaves of absence shall be considered on the basis of the purpose of the leave and operational requirements and must be approved in writing prior to the commencement date of such leave.

Leave requests that are not supported by required documentation will be denied, but may at the Employer’s option be considered requests for leave under other applicable sections.
Requests for Leave. 26.4.1 You need to take a break from work on a regular basis to relax and to refresh yourself. For this reason the employers require that leave is taken within twelve months of falling due, but in special circumstances the employers may agree to leave being accumulated until a later date. To help with work planning and rostering please give as much notice as possible. It is preferable that leave requirements are known before the work plan or roster is prepared. Your manager will promptly let you know whether your leave requests can be met so that you can finalise your own arrangements. 26.4.2 KiwiRail has the responsibility for setting leave schedules and where agreement cannot be reached will give you as much notice as possible but in any case not less than two weeksnotice of annual leave will be given.
