Dropped Shift. Full-time employees with eight (8) years of seniority working ten (10) shifts in a two (2) week period shall be allowed to reduce their work schedule by one (1) shift in a two (2) week pay period conditional on the shadow, where applicable accepting the additional shift if applicable. Such reductions shall be valid for a one (1) year period and may be renewed annually. The employee shall submit a written request to the Home and this request shall become effective no later than three (3) months after the request was given. It is understood that the reduction shall be a week day shift only, not a weekend day. When an employee working on such a reduced schedule leaves her position, the position will be posted without the shift reduction. Seniority part-time employees taking these extra shifts are not eligible to receive full-time benefits, or have their status changed from part-time to full-time. The parties agree to meet and discuss any item of concern with regards to the above, and pledge to work towards a mutually satisfactory solution of those concerns.

Dropped Shift. Effective within sixty (60) days following ratification or award, employees who currently have approved dropped shifts will be advised of how much they will have to contribute to the cost of their benefits for each dropped shift. a. All full-time employees may apply in writing for the possibility to reduce their regular work schedule of ten (10) shifts in nine (9) or eight (8) shifts per bi- weekly pay period. Such reductions shall be valid for a one (1) year period and may be renewed annually. b. Employees will be responsible to pay five percent (5%) of the total cost of the annual benefit premium for each dropped shift, this shall also include renewal costs when rates increase. The Employer shall include the cost of a dropped shift in the application for both single and family rates.

Such requests shall not be unreasonably denied. If approved, the request shall become effective no later than three (3) months after the request was given. It is understood that the reduction shall be a weekday shift only, not a weekend day. The Employer will take into consideration the Employer operations, the wishes of the employee dropping the shift, and the shadow employee when determining which day of the week is being used. Where no shadows are in place, drop shift(s) will be posted. Should the drop shifts not be picked up by the shadow or filled through the posting procedure the drop shift may be denied. When an employee working on such a reduced schedule leaves her position, the position will be posted without the shift reduction. If the shadow employee leaves their position, the full-time employee must work their dropped shift until a mutually agreeable remedy can be found. Part-time employees taking these extra shifts are not eligible to receive full-time benefits, or have their status changed from part-time to full-time.   • Day Shift The standard work day will consist of eight (8) hours worked between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. with a designated thirty (30) minute lunch period. Starting and stopping times to be determined by mutual agreement between the Company and the shop employees.

(b) In the event that an Employee agrees to a request from site management to resume or continue to work without having had ten consecutive hours off duty, the Employee shall be paid at double ordinary time rates until the Employee is released from duty for such period.

  • Broken Shifts (a) An employee may agree to work broken shifts at any time; however an employee may be required to work broken shifts in the following circumstances: (i) in homecare; or (ii) in an emergency – including staff absence; or (iii) up to and including a 4 week continuous period for circumstances other than those covered by subclauses 14.4(a)(i) and (ii). (A) Where an employee has served a period of broken shifts in accordance with subclause (iii) the employee shall not be required to serve a further period on broken shifts until he or she has been off broken shifts for a period equivalent to the previous period on broken shifts. (b) A “broken shift” for the purposes of this sub-clause means a single shift worked by an employee that includes one or more breaks in excess of that provided for meal breaks, where the time between the commencement and termination of the broken shift shall not exceed 12 hours. (c) An employee must receive a minimum break of 10 hours between broken shifts rostered on successive days. (d) Where broken shifts are worked, employees shall receive the per shift allowance set out in Item 1 of Table 2 of Schedule B to this Agreement. (e) Payment for a broken shift shall be at ordinary pay with penalty rates and shift allowances in accordance with Clause 18 - Shift and Weekend Work, with shift allowances being determined by the commencing time of the broken shift. (f) All work performed beyond the maximum span of 12 hours for a broken shift will be paid at double ordinary pay.

  • Daily Overtime All employees shall be paid the applicable overtime rate of time and one-half (1-1/2) for all time worked in excess of eight (8) hours per day.

  • Afternoon Shift (i) Afternoon Shift is any shift where the normal ceasing time is later than 6.00 p.m. but not later than midnight. (ii) The additional loading for ordinary hours only shall be twenty-five percent (25%) of the all purpose rate applying to the Employees' classification.

  • Shift A full-time shift shall normally consist of a nine (9) consecutive hour time period, determined by the University, of which one hour shall be used for a lunch period without compensation. A one-half hour lunch period may be substituted for the one hour lunch period with prior approval of the supervisor. With the approval of their supervisor and the Human Resources Office, schedules of less than forty (40) hours per week or a shift change may be elected by staff members.
