Duties of the Superintendent. A. The Superintendent is the chief executive officer of the ASD and is responsible for the efficient and effective direction and administration of the ASD in conformance with all applicable statutes, ordinances, regulations, Board policies, memos passed by a majority by the Board, and any other Board action approved by a majority of Board Members. The Superintendent is responsible for the organization or reorganization of ASD administrative and supervisory staff. Consistent with state law and any applicable collective bargaining agreement, the Superintendent shall recommend to the Board for approval all administrative and supervisory staff hiring, transfers, and promotions. B. The Superintendent shall devote his full time, skill, and attention to administration of the ASD. However, with prior approval of the Board, the Superintendent may engage in and receive compensation for consulting work, writing, lecturing, postsecondary teaching, or public speaking that would not reasonably be expected to interfere with the performance of his duties for the ASD. The Board has full discretion to determine whether such would reasonably be expected to interfere with the performance of his duties for the ASD, but may not arbitrarily or capriciously withhold its approval. No ASD resources may be used in the performance of this additional work and the Superintendent shall take annual leave to perform any work which prevents him from attending to ASD responsibilities. C. The Superintendent is responsible for his work schedule; however, the Superintendent hereby acknowledges that the proper performance of his ASD duties will include some work outside of normal school hours, over weekends, and during school holidays. When the Superintendent is not available in person or by telephone, he must designate an administrator in-charge, and inform the Board President and other appropriate administrators of that designation. D. The Superintendent shall organize and arrange for all meetings of the Board, and shall attend all such meetings unless excused by the Board President. E. The Superintendent shall comply with all applicable statutes, ordinances, and regulations, the Code of Ethics of the Professional Teaching Practices Commission, and the policies of the Board. F. Duties of the Superintendent. The Superintendent is responsible for and shall perform those functions as specified in the job description for the position for which the Superintendent is hereby employed, as such may be amended from time to time by the Board. The Superintendent shall be responsible to, and shall be subject to, the direct supervision and evaluation of the Board. The Superintendent is also responsible for complying with all directives of the Board which are authorized by official Board action. In addition, the Superintendent shall, during the term of this Contract, hold and maintain such state licenses and certifications as may be applicable or required, and shall devote his full working time to the performance of his duties as Superintendent. If the Superintendent desires to engage in outside employment or consulting, then he agrees he will not do so without obtaining prior Board approval.
Duties of the Superintendent. The parties agree that the duties of the position of Superintendent to be performed pursuant to this Contract are set forth in the Franklin Township School Board Policy Handbook, as amended. C. The Superintendent shall have charge of the administration of the Charlottesville City Public Schools under the direction and authority of the Board. As chief administrative officer, the Superintendent shall select, organize and assign all personnel as best serves the Charlottesville City Public Schools, subject to the approval and policies of the Board and laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia; shall oversee the instructional program and business affairs of the Charlottesville City Public Schools; shall from time to time suggest policies and administrative procedures deemed necessary for the proper functioning and operation of the Charlottesville City Public Schools; and in general perform all duties incident to the office of Division Superintendent as prescribed by Board policy and directive from time to time. D. The Superintendent shall keep the Board fully, promptly and completely informed of all issues and matters that are relevant to the proper functioning of the Board and the Charlottesville City Public Schools. The Board will promptly refer all criticisms, complaints, concerns, and suggestions to the Superintendent for investigation, study and response.

Duties of the Superintendent. Xx. Xxxxxxxx agrees to accept employment as the Superintendent of Norfolk Public Schools and to carry out the duties of the Superintendent. The Superintendent shall serve as the Chief Education and Chief Executive Officer of Norfolk Public Schools (“NPS” or the “District”) in accordance with the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia (including but not limited to Va. Code §§22.1-58, et seq.), the regulations adopted by the State Board of Education, and the lawful directives of the School Board of the City of Norfolk. The Superintendent will devote her time, skill, labor, and attention to her duties as the Superintendent. The duties of the Superintendent include the responsibility to organize, reorganize, and arrange the teachers, administrative and supervisory staffs, and other employees so that they best serve the NPS. This includes the authority to reorganize the central administration staff. Further, the administration of instruction and all business affairs shall be lodged with the Superintendent and administered by her with the assistance of the administrative staff. The responsibility for the selection, placement, and transfer of all personnel, subject to School Board approval, shall be vested in the Superintendent, in accordance with applicable laws and regulations. The School Board shall not reassign the Superintendent’s duties to other employees in the District without the consent of the Superintendent.
