Fire Suppression employees. A. All three (3) platoons will receive holiday pay at twelve (12) hours times hourly rate, for the following holidays: New Year's Day, Xxxxxx Xxxxxx Xxxx, Xx.'s Day, Presidents' Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veteran's Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.

Fire Suppression employees. The regular hours of work for employees whose primary responsibilities are fire suppression shall be an average of 42 hours per week with a schedule of two (2), 10‐ hour days followed by two (2), 14‐hour nights. The average of forty‐two (42) hours is achieved over a fifty‐six (56) day cycle. The Fire Chief shall establish the shift schedules which may be amended from time to time. Shift schedules established by the Fire Chief under the above paragraph may vary from the regular hours for the purposes of transferring employees from one shift to another due to: cross‐shifting, promotion or coverage for long term employee absences. Where such variation occurs, the hours worked by any impacted employees shall not exceed three hundred and thirty‐six (336) over the fifty‐six (56) day period. The parties further agree that variations to shift schedules for the purposes of training shall be a subject for discussion between the parties at the Training Committee. Notwithstanding the above, the Fire Chief may implement shifting patterns that vary from the schedule of two (2), 10‐hour days followed by two (2), 14‐hour nights for employees who are designated as “pool employees”. In establishing a pool the Employer may assign up to ten percent (10%) of the workforce (rounded to the next higher number of employees) to be included in the pool. Those employees assigned to the pool shall be the least senior employees. Employees assigned to work as pool employees shall not be assigned to a permanent shift and shall not necessarily work a schedule of two (2), 10‐hour days followed by two (2), 14‐hour nights rotation; rather they shall be assigned by the Fire Chief as need dictates, and shall have their hours of work balanced over each fifty‐six (56) day cycle as follows:
Fire Suppression employees. Other than fire inspectors, all other employees covered by this Agreement will continue to be paid pursuant to the partial overtime pay exemption provided by 29 U.S.C. Section 207(k). The “work period” will continue to be a minimum of twenty-one (21) calendar days beginning immediately after 8:00 a.m. on Sunday and ending at 8:00 a.m. the third following Sunday. Fire suppression employees will be scheduled to work 24 hours on duty and 48 hours off duty, for a total of 168 hours of scheduled duty time during each 21 day work period. All fire suppression employees who work more than one hundred fifty- nine (159) hours during a 21 day work period will be compensated for such additional hours at a minimum of one and one-half times the straight time rate in effect as set forth in the City’s wage schedule.
Fire Suppression employees. Subject to Sections 10.2 and 10.3 above, should it be necessary for bona fide operational reasons (e.g., shift transfers from one 24-hour shift to another 24-hour shift, transfer of a lieutenant to the Fire Prevention Bureau, or changes in the starting times of 24-hour shifts, etc.) to change an employee’s current shift assignment or shift starting time, the Village shall give at least 24 hours’ advance notice of such change to any affected employee(s). Except where an employee is temporarily assigned to a forty (40) hour work week for schooling or light duty, fire suppression employees’ assignment to a 24-hour shift shall not be either altered in order to prevent such employees from being eligible for overtime pay or scheduled on the basis of a normal shift schedule that departs from the standard of 24 hours on and 48 hours off specified in Section 10.2 above.

Eligibility for lifetime medical is subject to the Employee completing ten (10) years of continuous service at the level of Department Head or above and retiring from the City of Fontana as an annuitant of the Public employees Retirement System (PERS). Employee shall cease to be eligible for lifetime medical coverage paid by the City if the Employee reinstates as an active member of PERS or otherwise fails to meet the PERS definition of an annuitant.
