FUNERAL LEAVE WITH PAY a. In the case of the death of a mother, father, stepmother, stepfather, brother, sister, husband, wife, child, stepchild, mother-in-law, father-in-law, or in the case of death of any other relative residing in the immediate household of a regular employee, the employee shall be allowed thirty-two (32) hours funeral leave with regular pay without deduction from his pay or accumulated sick leave. In the case of death of a sister-in-law, brother-in-law, daughter-in-law, son-in-law, grandparent, grandchild, aunt, uncle, nephew, or niece of the regular employee or spouse, the employee shall be allowed sixteen (16) hours funeral leave with regular pay without deduction from his pay or accumulated sick leave. In addition, the regular employee may be allowed to use twenty-four (24) hours accumulated sick leave in the case of death of any of the above designated persons. b. An employee may be allowed up to two (2) hours funeral leave with pay to attend the funeral of a co-worker who was employed by the City at the time of his or her death provided, however, that permission to do so is granted by the employee=s department head or designated representative.

FUNERAL LEAVE WITH PAY. A. In the case of the death of a regular employee=s mother, father, brother, sister, husband, wife, child, mother-in-law, father-in-law, stepmother, stepfather, step child, grandparent, grandparent of spouse, grandchild, or in the case of death of any other relative residing in the immediate household of a regular employee, the employee may be allowed forty (40) hours funeral leave with regular pay without deduction from his pay or accumulated sick leave. The leave may be used to attend the funeral and/or to bereave the death of the relative. The leave may be taken non-consecutively with approval from the Department Head or Human Resources Director when circumstances warrant. B. In the case of the death of a regular employee=s sister-in-law, brother-in-law, daughter-in-law, son-in-law, aunt, uncle, nephew, niece, or great-grandparent, or the aunt, uncle, nephew or niece of the spouse of an employee, the employee may be allowed sixteen (16) hours funeral leave with regular pay without deduction from his pay or accumulated sick leave. C. For purposes of section 3, in-laws outlined in Subsections A and B shall include the mother, father, brother, sister, son, and daughter of the employee=s deceased spouse or divorced spouse unless either has remarried. D. A regular employee may be allowed two (2) hours paid funeral leave to attend the funeral of a currently employed co-worker provided, however, that such permission is granted by the employee=s Department Head or designated representative.
FUNERAL LEAVE WITH PAY. An employee will be given approved leave with pay, not to exceed three (3) days per occasion as required by the circumstances, for the death of a person in his immediate family as defined in paragraph 15-3. Permission for longer absence with pay, under appropriate circumstances, may be given by the employee's immediate supervisor with the approval of Employee Relations. An employee will be given approved leave with pay, not to exceed one (1) day, for the funeral of an uncle, aunt, niece or nephew.

C. Further, a regular employee may also be allowed to use up to twenty-four (24) hours of his accumulated sick leave in the case of death of any of the designated persons in Subsections A and B. D. For purposes of section 3, in-laws outlined in Subsections A and B shall include the mother, father, brother, sister, son, and daughter of the employee’s deceased spouse or divorced spouse unless either has remarried. E. In order to receive funeral leave with pay the employee must attend the funeral. F. A regular employee may be allowed up to two (2) hours time off with pay to attend the funeral of a currently employed co-worker provided, however, that such permission is granted by the employee’s Department Head or designated representative.

In the case of the death of a parent, child, spouse, brother or sister, mother-in-law or father-in-law, grandparent or grandchild of a regular full-time employee (as defined in ARTICLE 11, SECTION 14) requiring th ev jL absence of said employee from his regular scheduled assignment for the purpose of preparing for and/or attending the funeral, then such employee shall be granted a leave of absence of up to three (3) days. SECTION 2. Where the employee’s normal time off (vacation, holidays, designated day off, etc.) falls within the three (3) day period, he will not receive pay for three (3) days, but only for those days which are normally scheduled for work. Under no circumstances, however, shall the application of this clause result in a change in the employee’s basic weekly salary.

FUNERAL LEAVE WITH PAY. 22.1: Any seniority, full-time employee subject to this Policy who, while actively working, shall suffer death in his immediate family will be granted a funeral leave of absence with normal daily basic straight-time pay for up to three (3) consecutive regularly scheduled work days between the date of death and date of the funeral, the last day of which shall be the day of the funeral. Immediate family is defined for purposes of this Article as any of the following relatives of eligible employees: mother, father, sister, brother, wife, husband, son, daughter, grandchild, mother-in-law, father-in-law, grandparents of the employee and spouse. An eligible employee who suffers death of a brother-in-law, sister-in-law or an aunt, uncle, niece or nephew, of blood relation will be granted a funeral leave of absence with normal daily basic straight time pay for one (1) regularly scheduled work day to attend the funeral. The City may require written application for such leave, as well as proof of death, relationship to the deceased and/or proof of attendance at the funeral.
