Long Term Occasional Positions. 18.01 (a) Long Term Occasional positions shall first be granted to unassigned elementary/secondary Teachers or elementary/secondary Teachers on recall (covered by the current elementary and secondary agreements), then to Occasional Teachers who have been approved for placement on the Board’s Long Term Occasional Teachers list and hold the required qualifications as set out in the Education Act and Regulations.
Long Term Occasional Positions. 18.01 The Board will maintain a Long Term Occasional Teacher Roster for assignment as identified in article 18.04. In order to be eligible for the Long Term Occasional Teacher Roster, occasional teachers will have completed the probationary period, have been on the Board’s occasional teachers’ list ten months or more and have been approved for long term occasional assignments.
18.02 Long Term occasional positions shall be granted to supernumary teachers, then to laid off statutory teachers on the occasional teachers’ list and then to occasional teachers who have been approved for placement on the Board’s Long Term Occasional Teacher Roster, and then to the Board’s Occasional Teacher List.
18.03 The names of laid-off statutory teachers, who have indicated to the Board they wish to be included on the Board's Occasional Teacher List, shall be mailed to the President of the Association no later than August 31 in each school year or within 30 days of layoff in any other circumstances.
18.04 When a teacher with the Board is pre scheduled to be absent from teaching duty for a period of at least two school months, but less than a school year and the Board decides to replace the teacher with a long term occasional teacher, then the Board shall assign a replacement from the Long Term Occasional Teacher Roster. A copy of such assignment shall be mailed to the President and the Secretary of the Association.
18.05 Occasional teachers shall be advised of available prescheduled long term occasional assignments by an information posting on the Board's web site.
18.06 If the Board does not find a suitable candidate from internal considerations, then the Board may fill the position at its discretion from external candidates.
Long Term Occasional Positions. 20.01 Long Term Occasional Assignments shall be granted in accordance with Part A, Section 17.

Long Term Occasional Positions. The Board shall post on the internet (such as the Board's First Class system) any Long Term Occasional assignment which is known at least five (5) school days in advance of the commencement of the assignment. Interested Occasional Teachers may apply for any posting in accordance with the procedure as outlined on the posting. Prior to external hiring, the Board shall fill Long Term Occasional positions with a qualified Occasional Teacher applicant from the Occasional Teacher List. Where the Board has deemed it necessary to appoint the same Occasional Teacher to substitute for the same regular teacher who would be absent on a recurring basis during the school year for reasons approved by the Board, such Occasional Teacher shall be deemed to be a Long Term Occasional Teacher for salary purposes only. Such Occasional Teacher shall be paid at the appropriate grid rate for each day worked. For further clarification, the recurring assignment shall be ten days or more but not consecutively with the exception of Professional Development days as approved by the Board. This clause is to be utilized for recurring medical treatment, professional development, and other similar circumstances as approved by the Board. Long Term Occasional Positions. For a Long Term Occasional assignment of at least months, the Board shall post the position on the Boards if the Board has notice of such assignment thirty (30) calendar days prior to the beginning of such assignment. The notice will remain on the Board for a period of seven (7) calendar days. Prior to hiring the Board shall consider qualified Occasional Teacher applicants from the Board's Teachers List A copy of the notice will be provided to the President of the Local. Long Term Occasional Positions. Casual/Supply OCTU Members employed for twenty (20) consecutive days, in the same assignment, will be considered to be Long Term Occasional (LTO) and paid the appropriate start rate of the Level that applies to the assignment, retroactive to the first day of the assignment to that position. When it is known the vacancy will exceed twenty (20) days, the vacancy will immediately be deemed a LTO.
