Route Assignments. Management retains the right to assign employees to routes which become permanently or temporarily vacant or to fill positions based on staffing needs. However, such assignment of routes shall not be made arbitrarily, or for reasons unrelated to merit. Rather, Management agrees to consider a number of factors in assigning routes, including but not limited to, seniority in classification, performance evaluations, attendance, vehicular accidents, and knowledge of the various routes.
Route Assignments. Route assignments shall be assigned, according to established past practice, by seniority requests. Final assignments shall be made no later than three (3) school days after the beginning of the school year or three (3) school days after a regular run has opened during the school year; in both cases the final assignments will be made no later than ten (10) days if any of the remaining drivers are sick, on vacation, or on an excused absence. Should a disagreement occur, the grievance procedure may be used.
Route Assignments. 1. Drivers will maintain the same route at the beginning of the school year that they had at the end of the prior year. Drivers shall maintain their regular hours as of the end of the prior year until their new route assignment is assumed. Drivers shall generally be allowed to maintain the same bus assignment as they had at the end of the prior year until the new route assignment is assumed. Vacant routes will be filled until the bid process is completed by substitute drivers or new employees. The routes as defined in Appendix D, will be revised by the Transportation Director and driver designee(s) appointed by the Director. Cost effectiveness, cost efficiency, geographic considerations, run/route/shuttle considerations, and customer service shall serve as some of the cornerstone consideration in establishing runs and routes. All regularly scheduled routes in operation including estimated times, mileage, and the thirty (30) minutes preparation time, shall be posted for selection not later than the Friday preceding the route selection meeting. Extra pay shuttles and mid‐day runs will be bid separately. The most senior employee shall have first choice of a route assignment. Selection shall continue in order of the next most senior employee until all regularly scheduled route assignments and mid‐day runs have been assigned. In limited circumstances (includes but is not limited to special educations students, efficiency type of vehicle, etc.) a shuttle may be assigned by the Director. The time spent at route selection meetings is voluntary and as such will not be compensated. A bid meeting will be conducted within four (4) work days of the end of the first twenty
Route Assignments. 1. Routes shall be bid annually in accordance with District seniority. Routes shall be re-bid by seniority between the 2nd and 4th week of the school year.
2. New routes during the school year shall be offered to regular Bus Drivers in order of seniority. If no Bus Driver accepts the route, it shall be filled in accordance with standard procedures.
3. Seniority shall be established in accordance with the provisions of this bargaining agreement and shall be based on the date of hire into the District.
4. All vehicle assignments shall be made by the Transportation Supervisor.
Route Assignments. A driver or monitor will not be removed from their assigned route for missing the first day of school because of: • the death of an immediate family member • the death of a close relative; • the death of a member of his/her own household. • Emergency hospital admission of an employee on the first day of school Pre-planned elective surgeries would not qualify as emergency hospital admission.
Route Assignments. It is recognized that routes may change over summer due to student transfers and program changes. At the beginning of each school year, all drivers and attendants will retain the same route, or a route with similar hours and similar destinations/pick-ups, to the one they held the previous school year if available. The Director will allow new drivers, and drivers and attendants whose routes have been eliminated or reduced (see 15.5.2), to select routes based on their hire date seniority. All route assignments will be held until the annual bidding process is completed. Should a route become vacant during the school year, it will be posted for bid, or redistributed to other drivers.
Route Assignments. 17.4.1 The District will post notices of regular route vacancies. Notices will include route description, approximate time required to complete the route and the deadline for submitting a request for assignment to the route.
17.4.2 Drivers may submit written requests for assignment to a posted vacant route.
17.4.3 Drivers may submit written requests to exchange routes. Requests for route exchanges may be honored if the District determines the exchange is appropriate.
17.4.4 If the District decides to reassign a driver to a different route, the driver will receive notice of the intended action and the reason for the reassignment. Drivers who have received notice of route reassignment may request a meeting with the Transportation Supervisor to discuss the reassignment and/or suggest alternatives.
17.4.5 In assigning routes, the District will consider the previously expressed interests of senior drivers in maintaining and/or increasing hours of employment.
Route Assignments. Designated weekly routes will be assigned to Employees with the most seniority as Drivers through consensus between Employees. If no consensus is reached, a sign-up for each route will take place and routes will be assigned by Driver seniority. Every six months, each Employee will be rotated to a new route unless through consensus, the Employees agree to allow individuals to keep the same route. If no consensus is reached, Employees must rotate to a different route but will again be able to sign-up with first choice of his/her new route, assigned by Driver seniority. Employees with the least seniority in the Driver classification that are not eligible to sign-up for a route assignment will be designated floaters and work as substitute Drivers as needed due to absences or other duties as assigned. The goal of route assignments is to provide a higher level of customer service through consistent route Management by the Employees. The Employees may elect by consensus or majority vote to extend a rotation period. Route and truck assignments may be changed temporarily to conduct route audits or to ensure optimal safety by moving a more experienced Driver to a more difficult driving route when less experienced substitute Employees are working.
Route Assignments. Route assignments will be made on the basis of bid as provided in Article 5.4 of this agreement. Once assigned, drivers will maintain their routes until re-bid. All routes are subject to adjustment in the interest of economy and efficiency but will not be re-bid unless such adjustment results in increased driving time of more than fifteen (15) minutes. Extra runs will be added to and become part of a permanent bus route if the run is scheduled to last for the remainder of the school year. Extra runs that are not intended to last for the entire school year or that do not take place on four or more days of the work week will be treated as extra time and paid on a timesheet basis. Preschool routes are considered separate bus routes and will be posted as separate routes.
A. When a driver who has a preschool route is going to be off for a period of time the route is then given to a contract driver. That sub/contract driver will continue to drive that route until the regular driver returns to work. In the event the sub/contract driver is unable to do the route due to illness or for whatever reason it will then be given to the next sub/contract driver on rotation and that sub will continue with the route until the regular driver returns. Once a route is established at the beginning of the school year it will not be changed except as the transportation needs of the district change to meet the needs of pupils. Drivers will be notified in the event of any change in their assigned bus route. When additional permanent bus routes become available they will be posted for bid by existing drivers before the hiring of new bargaining unit employees.
Route Assignments. Some assignments may involve working with students with needs that require Attendants that meet specific gender or physical ability requirements. These assignments will be available only to Attendants that meet the requirements for the assignment. Prior to the beginning of each school year, transportation will make assignments for Bus Attendants according to the District’s need and the individual’s seniority and eligibility as described above.
