Personal Need. 1. Teachers with professional status will be granted an unpaid leave of absence for the purpose of child-rearing of up to two years consistent with the child-rearing language in Article 13A above This leave would not add to leave granted under Article 13, A., above. 2. Teachers without professional status will be granted an unpaid leave of absence for the purpose of child rearing for up to twelve (12) weeks. This leave would not add to leave granted under Article 13.A. above. 3. Teachers with professional status may be granted, with prior written approval from the Superintendent, an unpaid leave for the following reasons: prolonged illness, needed rest, and necessities of the home; professional improvement when teachers are not eligible for sabbatical leaves of absence; for teaching in an acceptable school system in the United States when teachers are not selected as exchange teachers; for teaching at a United States Military Installation abroad; or for any other activity which would benefit the Springfield Public Schools.
Personal Need. Members of the bargaining unit may be granted an unpaid leave at the discretion of the School Committee for the following reasons: prolonged illness, needed rest, and necessities of the home; professional improvement; to serve in public office; or for any other activity which would benefit the New Bedford School System.
Personal Need. A unit member is entitled to up to four (4) days of personal need each year. This is taken off sick leave, but is not accumulated. No justification for use of this leave need be provided.

  • Personal Necessity Leave A maximum of six (6) full days (or proportionate number of hours for less than full time) of the faculty member's sick leave time shall be granted each fiscal year for Personal Necessity Leave within the following provisions: a. Death of a member of immediate family, if Xxxxxxxxxxx Leave (see Section 4F) is exhausted. b. Accident involving the faculty member's person or property, or the person or property of a member of the employee’s immediate family. Such accident must be serious in nature, involve circumstances the faculty member cannot reasonably be expected to disregard, and require the attention of the faculty during the member’s assigned hours of service. c. Appearance of the faculty member in court as a litigant. The faculty member must return to work in cases where it is not necessary to be absent the entire day. d. An appearance of the faculty member as a witness under an official governmental order for which salary is not allowed under this Section, provided that each date of necessary attendance under such order, other than the date specified in a subpoena, shall be certified by the Clerk or other authorized officer of a court or other governmental jurisdictions; in any case in which a witness' fee is payable, such fee shall be collected by the faculty member and remitted to the District Business Office; and the faculty member must return to work in cases where it is not necessary to be absent the entire day. e. A serious illness of the faculty member's immediate family, which under the circumstances the faculty member cannot reasonably be expected to disregard and which requires the attention of the faculty member during assigned hours of service. Upon exhaustion of the faculty member's Personal Necessity Leave, the faculty member may use Sick Leave for this purpose. (Immediate family will include dependent children, spouse or domestic partner, elderly parents or grandparents. f. The birth of a child making it necessary for a faculty member who is a parent of the child to be absent from his/her position during assigned hours of service. g. Imminent danger to the home of a faculty member, occasioned by a factor such as flood or fire, which under the circumstances the faculty member cannot reasonably be expected to disregard and which requires the attention of the faculty member during assigned hours of service. h. Any other significant event of personal necessity to the faculty member, which does not disrupt the normal operation of the District and which, in the faculty member's reasonable judgment, cannot reasonably be disregarded. This personal necessity provision (h) shall not be used during a labor dispute. i. The faculty member using Personal Necessity Leave under this Section affirms that the circumstances that necessitated the leave qualify under the terms of this section.

  • Personal Necessity A maximum of eight (8) days of accumulated sick leave may be used in any school year for personal necessity leave for any of the following reasons:

  • Personal Medical Leave 1. Accrued 100% sick leave may be used at the employee's discretion. Such leave may be taken before or after the vacation described in No. 3 below. 2. Accrued 75% sick leave may be used following use of all 100% sick leave at the employee’s discretion. Such leave may be taken before or after the vacation described in No. 3 below.

  • Personal Freedom 20.1 The personal life of an Employee is not an appropriate concern for the attention of the Board except as it may directly inhibit the Employee from performing properly his/her assigned functions during the workday.

  • Personal Leave Written request for a personal leave of absence without pay will be considered on an individual basis by the Hospital. Such requests are to be submitted to the employee's immediate supervisor at least four (4) weeks in advance, unless not reasonably possible to give such notice, and a written reply will be given within fourteen (14) days except in cases of emergency in which case a reply will be given as soon as possible. Employees needing personal leave days for appointments with medical practitioners may utilize the personal leave language. Such leave shall not be unreasonably withheld.

  • Personal/Xxxxx’s Leave 7.3.1 All full time employees shall be entitled to accrue paid personal / carer's leave on the basis of 10 days per year (or pro-rata thereof for any period less than one year). Part-time employees are entitled to a pro-rata benefit. Paid personal / carer's leave is cumulative. 7.3.2 All accrued personal leave shall be available for use as carer's leave in accordance with the provisions outlined below. 7.3.3 As part of its commitment to provide a family-friendly workplace, the employer will allow employees to use any amount of accrued personal /xxxxx's leave to enable employees to: (a) provide primary care to partners, children and/or other household or family members. (b) attend the funerals of family or household members or close family relatives (if compassionate leave is not available in the circumstances). 7.3.4 The leave provided for in this clause will be granted subject to the following: (a) The employee must notify the employer of the reason and likely duration of the absence before 7.00 am on the first day of the absence, unless this is not possible due to an unexpected emergency in which case the employee must notify the employer as soon as practicable. (b) Where circumstances permit, an employee must endeavour to arrange leave to minimise the impact on operational needs. (c) The provision of appropriate documentary evidence. 1. For sick leave, a medical certificate or if not reasonably practicable to provide a medical certificate- a statutory declaration made by the employee. 2. For xxxxx's leave, a medical certificate in respect to the family or household member, or a statutory declaration by the employee. 3. For compassionate leave, any evidence that the employer reasonably requires. 7.3.5 The employee is not entitled to take more than 10 days of paid xxxxx’s leave (1/26th of the nominal hours worked by the employee) per year, regardless of the amount of personal leave the employee has accumulated over time. 7.3.6 An employee may request to cash out any amount of paid personal/carer’s leave that they have accrued that is excess of 3/52 of the number of nominal hours worked over the past 12 months. For example, an employee working 38 hours per week over 12 months must retain 15 days of paid personal/carer’s leave and may cash out any further personal/carer’s leave that has been accumulated. 7.3.7 In addition to the above, a request to cash out personal/carer’s leave will only be granted where: (a) the employee elects to cash out their leave in writing; and (b) the employer agrees. 7.3.8 Casual Employees engaged in continuous service shall be entitled to personal leave limited to the provision of sub clause 7.3.

  • Personal Illness Employees may use accumulated sick leave for hours off due to personal illness. The employee may be required to furnish a medical certificate from a qualified physician as evidence of illness or physical disability in order to qualify for paid sick leave as per District practice. Accumulated sick leave may also be granted for such time as is actually necessary for office visits to a doctor, dentist, optometrist, etc.
