Temporary Employees - Seniority. (a) For the purpose of this Article, service seniority shall mean the length of service as a temporary Employee of the Institute.
(b) For the purpose of layoff and recall, a temporary Employee who has worked in excess of thirty (30) days shall accumulate service seniority within a program.

For the purpose of attaining seniority and seniority related benefits (pension benefits, vacation entitlement and pay, salary continuance, and layoff/severance benefits), or B.C.M.E.A. service credits, applicable to Temporary Relief or Daily Dispatch Employees, the following shall apply with respect to determining credited service:

However, if an employee becomes permanent, then his or her seniority under Clause (3)2.1, shall be determined by the date of employment as a permanent employee.

Temporary Employees - Seniority. 21.2.1 All Employees shall be classified as Regular Employees or Part-time Regular Employees after a period of ninety (90) calendar days from the date of hire during which no break in employment has occurred.
21.2.2 Upon completion of separate periods of service totaling two-thousand, one- hundred and sixty (2160) straight time hours, which although not continuous are separated by intervals of less than six (6) months, an Employee shall become a Regular Employee and shall receive seniority credit at the rate of one (1) week for each forty (40) hours of such service. For seniority purposes, an Employee hired under this Article will be assigned a date-of-hire computed backward from the date on which they have acquired such seniority.
21.2.3 Laid off Regular Employees, when recalled for temporary assignments, shall receive an additional twenty-seven and five-tenths percent (27.5%) above their regular rate of pay in lieu of group insurance benefits and vacation accrual. If, on the first day of any calendar month, the Employee is scheduled to work at least eighty-seven and one-half (87.5) hours during that calendar month, the Employee may elect to receive such benefits and vacation accrual in lieu of twenty-seven and five-tenths percent (27.5%) payment.
21.2.4 Temporary Employees shall receive an additional twenty-seven and five- tenths percent (27.5%) above their regular rate of pay.
Temporary Employees - Seniority. A temporary employee’s seniority shall commence on the first day of work in the sixty (60) working shifts within the twelve (12) month qualifying period. Prior to attaining seniority, the standard for discharge is lack of suitability. Temporary employees qualify for thirteen point four percent (13.4%) payment on their gross pay to compensate for holidays, vacations, benefit premiums and paid leaves of absence. Note: Clarify when probation occurs – once in the first regular position. Confirm that the attainment of seniority may either occur by completing the probationary period or that it may occur separately through work as a temporary employee. Clarify standard for discharge during before obtaining seniority and in probation.
