TIME IN GRADE. The seniority of officers shall be determined by the length of time in rank. When more than one officer is appointed to the same rank on the same day, seniority shall be determined by the final standing in which they finished in the testing procedure established for that rank.

TIME IN GRADE. Time in grade shall be applied for establishing seniority rights for purposes of bidding and reduction in ranks, but shall not be used for purposes of vacation selection. For purposes of station or apparatus reduction the last in to a station, by shift shall be the first out.
TIME IN GRADE. The number of months in current job classification with the Sheriff’s Office. Time-in-grade shall be cumulative for breaks in grade of one year or less, minus the time absent. Breaks in grade of greater than one year shall be calculated from the most recent appointment date. Time present in a higher job classification (rank or pay grade) will count towards seniority for the current grade. Ties in seniority between Deputies shall be broken by lottery. Ties in classification seniority for Corporals shall be broken by overall seniority as a Deputy and then by lottery unless otherwise provided by this Agreement.
TIME IN GRADE. Longevity Pay Steps: Upon ratification, employees who are on the maximum of the pay range, L1 or L2 and whose pay anniversary date is greater than two (2) years, may be eligible for a half (½) pay step (supplement pay). Once the employee completes five (5) years, they may progress to the next step (and the temporary half [½] pay step supplement will be removed). An additional Longevity Step (L3) will be established. Effective and retroactive to October 1, 2018, employees on L2 and whose pay anniversary date is greater than five (5) years may be eligible to progress to L3. Employees will receive pay step increments for continuous service in the same classification as described below:

TIME IN GRADE. Each employee who is appointed to Firefighter or Firefighter Paramedic at Step A will be eligible to advance to Step B upon completion of six (6) months of actual service, a satisfactory performance evaluation, and a score of 80% or higher on the 6 month exam. Eligibility for step increases within a range thereafter will occur at intervals of six (6) months effective on the salary anniversary date of the last increase, with the exception of Step G. An employee who reaches Step G will be eligible for an increase to Step H after one (1) year and a satisfactory performance evaluation.
