Training Requests. All requests for training, outside the Washington State Learning Center (WSLC), will be approved, disapproved, or forwarded by the immediate supervisor within fifteen (15) calendar days of the submission of the properly completed request. Upon request, the agency will provide a status update within forty-five (45) days. If a request is denied, the Employer will provide a reason for the denial to the employee.

Training Requests. All requests for training and career opportunities or reimbursement must be submitted in writing to an employee's supervisor and will be responded to in writing by the Agency.
Training Requests. Requests for training will be submitted, discussed, and endorsed by the supervisor prior to being sent to the appropriate management official for final approval. Approval or disapproval of training request(s) will be communicated in writing to the employee. If disapproved, the employee will be notified in writing of the reason for disapproval. Training nominations and/or approval will be evaluated on meeting position specific required training first, and then current and career path positions. Training opportunities will be distributed equitably and fairly among qualified employees based on the following factors: mission need, availability of resources, timeliness of request, expected availability of future opportunities and other relevant factors. The choice of subject matter, areas for training, selection of employees, and assignment of training priorities is a function of the Employer. Training will not interfere with operational requirements as determined by the Employer.
Training Requests. When several employees within a department make requests to attend training and it is not possible to grant attendance for all those employees who have made such a request, because of the criteria listed in Continuing Education Leave above, the department manager shall establish an attendance list based upon the following order of priority: prior identified training needs; prior attendance at similar courses; and seniority.
Training Requests. (a) Employees who wish to take training shall submit written requests for such training to their supervisors and request consideration for such training. This includes training conferences. External training (primarily offered through outside resources) shall be evaluated by the Employer’s training officer to determine whether it meets the Employer’s training requirements and whether funding is available.
(b) When a supervisor has denied a written request for training contemplated in an employee's development plan, the supervisor shall explain in writing the specific reasons for the denial. Any requests for training that are not approved shall be returned with a written explanation
(c) Upon receiving notification that the training instances have been approved, employees shall submit internal training for approval through learnDOJ. Employees shall complete and submit training forms (SF-182) for external training through learnDOJ for approval. In addition to submitting external requests through learnDOJ, employees shall submit a request that include the name of the conference or training, why the they would like to attend, how this will benefit them in their current or future job performance, whether they have a membership in the organization sponsoring the conference, and a statement that the employee is willing to make a presentation to staff upon their return. Employees shall receive an email when the internal and external trainings have been approved.
(d) Training shall be approved by a supervisor before it can be taken. Depending upon workload priorities, employees and supervisors shall determine the best time for training during normal work hours.
(e) Employees who elect to take learnDOJ courses on their own time during non-work hours are allowed to do so. However, employees shall not receive overtime pay or compensatory time for such training unless it is approved in advance by their supervisors.
Training Requests. Employees who have submitted a written request for training will be notified of their selection or non-selection within 15 workdays and provided reasons, upon request, for the non-selection.
Training Requests. Bargaining unit members who submit training requests at the unit or squad level must meet the criteria set forth below to be considered:
Training Requests a. Employees may request to attend courses, seminars, meetings, or conferences that will enhance current working skills or provide training for work that may be assigned in the future. The supervisor may grant or deny a request depending on the relevance of the training, training fund priorities, demands of the office workload, and other training opportunities provided to the employee.
b. The Agency shall permit an employee to use official duty time to attend training that is approved but not funded by the Agency if the Agency determines that the training relates to the employee’s assigned duties or would enhance its mission and the employee’s performance.
c. The Agency shall annually provide the Union President with the following information for each Associate General Counsel area of responsibility and for each field office: the amount of funds expended under this Article, and a list of courses and seminars approved or denied by the Agency.
