Transfers and Demotions. Notwithstanding the posting requirements of this Article, and where the parties mutually agree, lateral transfers or voluntary demotions may be granted without posting on compassionate or medical grounds to permanent employees who have completed their probationary period.
Transfers and Demotions. Transfers shall be defined either as a lateral transfer from one department to another, or a move within the same classification from one location to another. Transfers within the same classification from one location to another will be awarded to the most senior qualified interested bargaining unit employees. Employees shall not be allowed more than one (1) lateral transfer or demotion per year, providing a vacancy exists.
Transfers and Demotions. A lateral transfer will result in no change to the employee's base salary if the employee is selected for a position that is in the same salary range. If the employee is selected for a position in a higher salary range, he/she will receive the appropriate pay raise to the base pay for the new classification or 6%, whichever is greater.

A) In the event of a vacancy or a newly created position, employees in the same classification as the vacancy shall be given the opportunity to transfer to another division on the basis of seniority according to Article 22, Posting of Vacancy, if the employee requires no more than five (5) days additional training.
B) Employees who request and are awarded a transfer to an equal classification shall be prohibited from being considered for any other transfer to an equal classification for a period of two (2) years from the date of the original transfer. This provision shall not apply to employees who merely change shifts within a division.
C) Upon transfer, employees will remain at their current pay step and continue step progression, if applicable, upon their original dates.
D) Upon demotion, employees will be placed at their current pay step (i.e. Step 3 to Step 3) in the lower classification and continue step progression, if applicable, upon their original dates. In the event an employee returns to a higher position they previously held (and they had attained a higher pay step in the lower classification), they will be placed at the highest pay step they attained in the lower classification, and continue step progression, if applicable, upon their original dates.

A) An employee wishing to transfer or demote between departments within Labour Service Sections shall apply in writing to the Director of Human Resources of the department concerned. The employee shall have his name entered into any secondary posting in the occupation and at the locations he has indicated. Employees utilizing this clause must do so on an annual basis.

The Union Grievance Committee Chairman and the employee affected shall receive prior notice, in writing, of any such action. If the Union feels the action was taken without just cause, the employee shall have the right to appeal through the normal grievance procedure. In the case where a demotion or transfer has been proved unjustified and the employee returned to his/her former status, the loss of pay involved shall be restored.
Transfers and Demotions. In making promotions, transfers and demotions, the skills, knowledge and ability of the employee concerned shall be the primary consideration, and where such qualifications are equal, length of service shall be the determining factor.

It is not the intent of the Employer to encourage and promote the use of split shifts, however, in accordance with past practice circumstance may dictate the continuation of the current method and philosophy of operation with respect to split shifts.

(For positions in excess of days) Where the employer creates and wishes to fill a new position, or to fill a vacancy in an existing position, the employer will post a notice of vacancy in the workplace and on the bulletin boards for a minimum of six (6) calendar days. The Employer may advertise to the general public simultaneously. The notice shall specify the position, the knowledge, skills and ability required to do the job and the hours of work. The qualifications as determined by management must be relevant to the position. A job description will be made available on request.
