Tuition and Book Reimbursement. 10 The use of these funds will be restricted to tuition and books. Tuition will 11 be limited to 100% tuition reimbursement for no more than 18 credit hours 12 (including lab fees) per employee each fiscal year, but not for supplies or 13 other expenses in connection with the course(s) to be taken. The amount 14 of reimbursement will be equal to the actual cost, not to exceed the State 15 of Florida university system credit-hour rate for undergraduate or graduate 16 courses as applicable. The City will not duplicate tuition reimbursement 17 fees, which have been paid by other sources such as scholarships, grants 18 or other subsidies. In the event of a partial scholarship or grant, 19 reimbursement will supplement, but not exceed the expense to the 20 employee. Books will be limited to fifty dollars ($50) per class per 21 employee.

Tuition and Book Reimbursement. Tuition and book reimbursement incentives will be provided to encourage an increase in the level of formal education of Department members. The maximum reimbursable amount will be calculated at 75 percent of the per credit hour cost for undergraduate or graduate programs at the University of Kansas to a maximum of 15 credit hours annually. The eligibility criterion for all tuition and book reimbursement incentives is two years of service with the Department. If an Officer or Detective receives approval from the Chief of Police and City Manager prior to enrollment and the Chief of Police determines the class is relevant and beneficial to police work, the City will reimburse any LPOA member who achieves a 2.0 grade or greater under the following schedule: 1. The City will reimburse 50 percent of the cost of tuition and books for non-degree seeking candidates. The Officer or Detective may retain ownership of the books. 2. The City will reimburse, at the University of Kansas equivalent per credit hour rate, 75 percent of the cost of tuition and books for degree seeking candidates. The books shall remain the property of the Department. Any Officer or Detective who receives book or tuition reimbursement is required to commit to two additional years of service with the Department subsequent to the receipt of the final reimbursement. Officers or Detectives who voluntarily separate from the Department shall fully reimburse the City for any tuition or book payments they received during the two year period preceding the separation.

These do not require grades and must be taken on the EMPLOYEE'S own time. Fire classes must be deemed job-related by the shift-training officer to be eligible for reimbursement. d. To encourage continuous education and supervisory-management training the CITY will include, within the Tuition Reimbursement Policy, the opportunity for the Fire Captains and Fire Battalion Chiefs to use the allowance to help defer cost of attending relevant seminars, workshops, conferences and classes (not necessarily requiring a grade) which promote professional growth (Administrative Policy E-5). In addition, Fire Captains and Fire Battalion Chiefs may apply this allowance toward related lodging, meals and other travel costs in compliance with the procedure for Travel and Meetings as established in (Administrative Policy E-4)

  • Tuition Reimbursement A. The Employer will reimburse a full-time employee for the cost of tuition in accordance with Regulation 10.12.060 and for the cost of books as long as the subject matter of the specific course or course of study is job-related and the tuition costs do not exceed those found at a state university. The employee must receive approval from the Chief prior to taking the course. Tuition reimbursement shall be approved for all job-related undergraduate and graduate work. A request for tuition shall not be unreasonably denied. B. If an employee receives a scholarship, the total amount of the reimbursement from the Employer, combined with the scholarship, shall not exceed one hundred percent (100%) of the cost of tuition and books. C. A satisfactory grade of C or higher or equivalent is required for reimbursement, and a copy of the course transcript showing satisfactory completion, along with a copy of the approved reimbursement application, a copy of the registration or receipt showing the amount paid, and a taxability of tuition reimbursement Interoffice Communication shall be submitted with the reimbursement request within sixty (60) calendar days of receiving final grades. D. In the event the Employer directs an employee to attend any formal training course, the costs of all books and incidental fees will be paid by the Employer. “Life experience” credits will be reimbursed on a per-credit basis, not to exceed the University of Washington tuition rates. E. Once a request for tuition reimbursement has been approved, the Employer will reimburse the cost of tuition as provided above. Approved tuition reimbursements shall be paid to the employee within sixty (60) calendar days of timely submission to the Employer. An employee shall not receive federal or state educational reimbursement funds that exceed the total tuition for any course. F. If an employee receiving tuition reimbursement misses two (2) consecutive terms of school, the Employer shall send a letter requesting the employee notify the Employer of whether the employee intends to continue to attend school. If the employee does not attend school during the following two (2) terms then the employee must reapply for tuition reimbursement when attendance resumes. G. When an employee completes an educational program, the employee shall notify the Employer so the Employer can remove the employee’s name from the tuition reimbursement list. If the employee pursues an additional degree then the employee must reapply for tuition reimbursement. H. No more than twenty-five percent (25%) of the bargaining unit members shall receive tuition reimbursement at any given time. If at any time the maximum twenty-five percent (25%) limit is reached, then all subsequent requests for tuition reimbursement shall be placed on a waiting list in order of the date of application.
