Use of Sick Leave for Family Members. A unit member who qualifies for sick leave under this section of the contract is entitled to use his/her available sick leave, in an amount not less than the sick leave that would be accrued during six months at the employee’s current rate of entitlement, to attend to an illness of a child, parent, spouse, or domestic partner of the unit member. All conditions and restrictions placed by the employer on the use of sick leave shall apply. For purposes of this section, “child,” “parent,” and “sick leave” shall be defined pursuant to section 233 of the California Labor Code. “Domestic partner” shall be defined pursuant to section 297 of the California Family Code. Nothing in this section shall be interpreted to grant any rights inconsistent with the Labor Code.

Use of Sick Leave for Family Members a. For Employees Eligible to Use Sick Leave for the Care of Relatives Per MN Statute 181.9413: The use of accumulated sick leave to care for an ill or injured family member is governed by Minnesota law.
Use of Sick Leave for Family Members. Employees Eligible to Use Sick Leave for the Care of Relatives Per MN Statute 181.9413 The use of accumulated sick leave to care for an ill or injured family member is governed by Minnesota law and not by this Agreement. The school district may require an employee to furnish a medical certificate from a qualified physician as evidence of the illness in order to qualify for sick leave pay. Employees Not Eligible to Use Sick Leave for the Care of Relatives Per MN Statute 181.941 An employee may request up to two (2) days paid sick leave for absence due to the illness of spouse, adult child, or parent including any step or xxxxxx relative in the same relationship with the employee. After the utilization of those two (2) days, an employee will have deducted two days of sick leave for each absence due to the sickness of a spouse, adult child or parent. These absences must be approved by the Director of Human Resources. No more than ten (10) days of sick leave may be taken for this purpose per fiscal year.
Use of Sick Leave for Family Members. Absence for the purpose of caring for an ill or injured member of the employee’s immediate family will be deducted from the employee’s accumulated sick leave.

Employees may also be entitled to additional unpaid leave for family members with serious health conditions under the state or federal Family Medical Leave Act.

An employee taking leave to care for a family member may choose whether to use paid sick leave as authorized above or to use unpaid leave as authorized by Articles 19 and 20 of this Agreement, or to use a combination of such leaves.

  • Leave for Family Illness In the case of illness of a member of an employee’s immediate family, meaning spouse, son, daughter, father, mother, or person to whom the employee is legal guardian when no one at home other than the employee can provide for the needs of the ill person, the employee may be granted, after notifying her immediate management supervisor, leave with pay up to five (5) working days per fiscal year, for the purpose of making such arrangements as are necessary to permit the employee’s return to work. The immediate management supervisor may require proof of the need for such leave as she considers necessary.

  • Donation of Sick Leave The District shall allow unit members to donate sick leave to individual employees who have suffered long-term disabilities or illnesses. Donating unit members shall retain a thirty (30) day balance of sick leave after their donation and may donate no more than twenty-five (25) days of sick leave per year. The donation form is Appendix I. Part-time faculty may receive sick leave donations from any employee, and may donate accumulated sick leave to other part-time faculty following the same requirements as outlined above. Part-time faculty may not donate sick leave to full- time employees.
