Visiting Appointments. A "visiting" appointment is one made to a person having appropriate professional qualifications but not expected to be available for more than a limited period, or to a person in a position which the University does not expect to be available for more than a limited period. A visiting appointment may be offered in single or multi-year appointments not to exceed a total of four (4) consecutive years.
Visiting Appointments. An initial Visiting Appointment shall be for a fixed term to a maximum of five years in a given Unit. The Appointment may be renewed for a further fixed term or terms. The total length of a Visiting Appointment, including renewals, shall not exceed eight years. Non-renewal of a Visiting Appointment does not constitute dismissal as defined in the Article Discipline.
Visiting Appointments. A fixed appointment of specific duration to a person who has appropriate professional qualifications but is not expected to be available for more than a limited period, or to a person in a position which the university does not expect to be available for more than a limited period. There is no commitment for renewal. The appointment may not exceed a total of four (4) consecutive years.
Visiting Appointments. (a) A visiting appointment shall be made only to a person having appropriate professional qualifications. Under normal circumstances, the individual is employed as a visiting faculty member on a particular line for a period of only one academic year. A visiting appointment is not subject to the notice of non-reappointment provided in Article 13.2.
(b) Upon the effective date of this Agreement, visiting appointments may be extended past the normal one-year period to a maximum of three years in the following circumstances:
(1) The appointment is a temporary appointment for which a search for a regular full-time faculty position is either in process or planned to commence in the foreseeable future, or
(2) The appointment is to substitute for a faculty member on sabbatical or approved leave.
(c) Before approving any request to extend the employment of a visiting faculty member, the Chair must consult with the faculty members in the department and make the faculty’s view on the extended appointment known to the hiring administrator. Any request to extend the employment of a visiting faculty member more than one year must have the approval of the Xxxxxxx or designee. The Xxxxxxx or designee shall promptly notify the UFF regarding any such extensions and UFF shall have the right to consult on such extensions under the provisions of the Consultation article.
(d) Regardless of rank, no faculty member with a visiting appointment shall be given a regular appointment without following the search procedures set forth in this article.
Visiting Appointments. A visiting appointment may be offered to faculty appointees who are retired, self-employed, or who have full-time positions with another employer to which they can return.
Visiting Appointments. Visiting appointments may be made as a Visiting Professor with rank dependent on qualifications. Such appointments shall be made for one (1) year, with the possibility to be renewed twice for one (1) additional year each, for a total of three (3) years. Should the Administration convert the visiting position to a permanent line (tenured or tenured track, legal writing, or clinical), the visiting appointment may be renewed for an additional year, for a total of four (4) years. A person who served as a Visiting Faculty member in a position that was converted to a permanent position may apply for the permanent position. Visiting faculty who complete their appointment term are eligible for subsequent visiting appointments, as long as the appointments are not consecutive. Exceptions may be made in cases where a new Visiting position is qualitatively different from the prior appointment. Neither the initial appointment, nor any renewal thereof, leads to or grants tenure or promotion. The appointment and rank of visiting Professor appointment shall be recommended by the Faculty Appointments Committee and approved by the Xxxx.
A Visiting Professor’s workload assignment will be determined by the workload guidelines of the college, pursuant to Article 14 of this Agreement.
Visiting Appointments. A visiting appointment is one made to a person having appropriate professional qualifications but not expected to be available for more than a limited period, or to a person in a position which the University does not expect to be available for more than a limited period. A visiting appointment, or a sequence of visiting appointments (i.e., an initial appointment followed by another visiting appointment) may not exceed a total of four years.
(1) Non-searched, Non-renewable appointment. An employee who has already worked any non-renewable (non-searched) appointment at the university may not be offered an additional non-renewable appointment after 12 months have been served.
Visiting Appointments. Appointments of visiting faculty shall be for one of three purposes: (a) to bring to the University personnel with unusual knowledge, artistry or exceptional merit, (b) to replace a full-time member on leave, or (c) appointment to a temporary grant- or contract-funded position. The letter of appointment shall specify the purpose for which the appointment is made. Such appointment carries no expectation of renewal beyond the term specified but may be renewed or repeated if funding sources and/or circumstances permit; however, there shall be no presumption that visiting contracts shall be renewed When a visiting contract is renewed, service shall be deemed continuous. Visiting faculty may apply for an open tenure-track position, but there is no presumption of special consideration. The member may request that all or a portion of years of uninterrupted service in a position at the University be considered towards tenure.
Visiting Appointments. Visiting appointments may be made as either a Visiting Professor or a Visiting College Lecturer with rank dependent on qualifications. Such appointments shall be made for one (1) year, with the possibility to be renewed twice for one (1) additional year each, for a total of three (3) years. Should the Administration convert the visiting position to a permanent line (tenured or tenured track, college lecturer, clinical or professor of practice position), the visiting appointment may be renewed for an additional year, for a total of four (4) years. Regarding appointment, visiting appointments shall be subject to procedures that apply to College Lecturer appointments. The rank of visiting Professor or College Lecturer appointments shall be recommended by the search advisory committee of the academic department or college and approved by the Xxxx. A Visiting College Lecturer who is appointed to a College Lecturer position, following the procedures in Article 12.2, may claim up to two years of service as a visitor to advance their review and promotion cycle. Such claims of service credit must be made no later than their date of appointment to the College Lecturer position, and shall be delineated in writing in their appointment letter.
A Visiting Professor’s workload assignment will be determined by the workload guidelines of their college, pursuant to Article 13 of this Agreement. A Visiting College Lecturer’s workload assignment will be determined by the lecturer guidelines in Article 12 of this Agreement.
Visiting Appointments. Visiting status shall be granted only to faculty appointees who are retired, or self-employed, or who have a full-time position with another employer to which they can return. These appointments shall not be made in lieu of probationary appointments.
