Career Technical definition

Career Technical. Education Teachers whose credentials are based upon work experience at the journeyman level, with or without a bachelor’s degree and without supervised practice teaching, will be placed on the first step of the salary schedule. Work Experience beyond that required by Career Technical Education teachers for their credential, will be credited on the basis of one year’s salary schedule advancement for every two years of work experience completed, up to a maximum of ten years credit on the board-approved salary schedule. The maximum step placement for new CTE teachers shall be Step 11. Salary advancement will be allowed for approved units (refer to section 24.4) earned beyond the issuance of the work experience based credential through an accredited institution of higher education.
Career Technical. Education Paraprofessionals, Alternative Education Assistants and At- risk Student Assistants will work student-contact days which are subject to adjustment due to school cancellations. • Kindergarten Lead Paraprofessionals and Kindergarten Classroom/Enrichment Paraprofessionals will work student contact days plus two (2) days. • Title 1 Paraprofessionals shall work student contact days and one (1) additional day as designated by the Title 1 Director. With the approval of the building principal, an Instructional Staff Assistant’s work schedule may be constructed such that the schedule results in a regular four (4)-day work week. Media Assistants working at the elementary buildings shall be employed for not less than six (6) hours per day and in secondary buildings for not less than three (3) hours per day. A full work day shall consist of the hours shown below for the following classifications: for Alternative Education Assistants -- 6.0 hrs; for Kindergarten Lead Paraprofessionals -- 7.5 hrs; beginning with the 2010-11 school year, Kindergarten Enrichment/Classroom Paraprofessionals-- 6.75 hrs; for Title 1 Paraprofessionals -- 7.0 hrs. Work days for At-risk Student Assistants will be established at the time of hire by the Board. Bargaining unit members’ work schedule shall follow the building schedule as closely as possible during the school year. Work days beyond the student school year shall be scheduled by the bargaining unit member and his/her immediate supervisor. The work year for each classification is defined and incorporated in Appendix C. During the summer months a 52-week (261 days), bargaining unit member’s work day shall be reduced by thirty (30) minutes, and he/she shall receive his/her regular daily pay. A member who works the extra 30 minutes on any day will not receive additional compensation. A bargaining unit member’s regular hours of work may be modified with the written approval of the building administrator or the program director and the Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources. Summer months shall begin five (5) working days after the last student attendance day and end five (5) working days prior to the start of the next student attendance school year.

In such circumstances, the program objectives and design, including the sequencing of courses, must fit the needs of students likely to be already employed.
