Salary Schedule Advancement a. A teacher shall be granted, at the time of hire, one step on the salary schedule for each full year of teaching experience up to the maximum of the established range. Expected range of salary steps will be identified and stated in postings for open positions. The ranges shall remain consistent for all postings within a given school year.
b. Each employee shall advance one (1) step on the salary schedule for each year of teaching experience at Saranac after the initial placement with the following exception. An employee on an approved leave other than sick, personal leave with pay, or FMLA must work more than one-half of the school year to be advanced one step on the salary schedule.
c. If an employee is hired after the beginning of a school year, they will advance one step the following year if they worked one-half or more of the school year.
d. Teachers with fifteen (15) years or more of teaching at Saranac will receive a longevity step according to the salary schedule (see Schedule A).
Salary Schedule Advancement.
A. Any employee covered by this Agreement who as a result of advanced training is eligible for advancement on the salary schedule must present evidence of such training no later than the last day of October. Adjustment made will be retroactive for any entitlement after September 1. No salary schedule advancements shall be granted after November 1 of a school year except at the discretion of the Superintendent or his/her designee. The District personnel officer will determine what classes shall be counted for salary schedule advancement based on applicable state laws and regulations. Although it is not required that classes be verified prior to taking them, it is recommended. Should the District personnel officer determine that a class or credit is not acceptable; a staff member may appeal to a committee composed of two administrators and two representatives of the Olympia Education Association. The Superintendent shall appoint the two administrative representatives and the Olympia Education Association shall appoint the two teachers representatives. The Advancement Appeal Committee shall meet periodically as needed, to be determined by the Assistant Superintendent. The decisions of the Advancement Appeal Committee shall be final unless a tie occurs in which case the final judgment shall be made by the Superintendent or his/her designee (such designee not to have been involved in the deliberations up to that point).
B. For salary schedule advancement, part-time experience including substituting (from 1980 to present as per current practice) will be counted and shall be computed in tenths of school years. One-tenth of a year of experience shall be eighteen days of full-time teaching experience in a single assignment or the equivalent amount at a part-time rate; e.g., 36 days of half-time experience. One year’s salary advancement shall be granted when the employee’s total experience, i.e., the sum of all full and fractional years of experience as differentiated from salary schedule placement, exceeds his/her present salary placement by one-half year or more, PROVIDED that the beginning point for current employees shall be their respective placement on October 1, 1983.
C. Clock hours will be counted toward salary schedule advancement at the rate of one college quarter hour credit for ten clock hours.
Salary Schedule Advancement. A. Teachers who plan to move to a higher column must register their additional hours or credits in the Human Resources Department during one of the four specified times each year by the 10th of the month following the end of a college quarter—by February 10, May 10, September 10, or November 10. Acceptable documents for this purpose include college or university transcripts, letters from college or university supervising department chairmen, and recommendations from committees approving projects in human relations and teaching field areas. Class grades must be “C” or better, or “Pass” on a pass/fail option. Upon presentation of appropriate documents, Request for Revision of Individual Certified Contract and documentation of credits, the district will issue a new contract showing teacher’s salary on the new column. It shall be the teacher’s responsibility to inform the Human Resources administrator in writing that advancement on the schedule has been earned. The district will not recognize audited courses for advancement on the salary schedule.
B. Hours earned before receiving an advanced degree, but not required for that degree, may be applicable toward advancement on the salary schedule for teachers employed prior to July 1, 1999. The following criteria shall be used in considering hours for teachers to advance on the salary schedule:
1. College hours may have been accumulated prior to and/or subsequent to receipt of the master’s degree;
2. The hours have not been used to acquire the master’s degree; and
3. The hours must be related to the teaching process or to the subject field in which teaching, and approved by a Human Resources administrator.
C. Teachers who have not reached the limit of their column shall advance one experience level per year (See Section 27.10 D for definition of a year).
D. Teachers hired on or before November 1, 1997, are entitled to move horizontally across the salary schedule without the master’s degree requirement (See Section 27.10.B).
E. For teachers employed on or after July 1, 1999, hours beyond the MA required for placement on Columns E (MA+24) and F (MA+45) must have been earned after the granting of the master’s degree and may not have been used to earn the master’s degree.
Salary Schedule Advancement. 1. For advancement on the salary schedule, the board will accept all college courses that are acceptable under the state guidelines for recertification. This includes pass/fail, undergraduate courses, and graduate courses educationally related to the professional development of the employee.
2. Advancement on the salary schedule does not include inservice or staff development hours.
3. Courses of both graduate and undergraduate level must not be a direct duplication of courses previously taken.
4. All credits required for advancement on the salary schedule are to be semester credits or their equivalency.
Salary Schedule Advancement. The base salaries in each cluster within a step may be increased through COLA, turnover savings, increments, and additional educational attainment. Once placed in a cluster within a step, faculty do not move from cluster to cluster except as described in B.3.B below.
Salary Schedule Advancement. Any teacher who has worked 90 or more days of the school year shall be entitled to such advancement on the salary schedule as he/she would have had if the leave had not been granted. If the leave exceeds the year the leave commences, the second year shall not be considered for step advancement on the salary schedule.
Salary Schedule Advancement. 1. Experience increments cannot exceed the top step for a classification, except in Column VI, an employee may advance only one step vertically and one step horizontally in any one contract year. Column VI will increase by $535 for each year of service earned after the final step listed.
2. Advanced degree programs (Masters, Specialist, etc.) must meet Kansas State Board of Education accreditation requirements.
3. Advancement from Column I to Column II shall be predicated on:
a. Six college credit hours shall be the minimum requirement for advancement
b. The equivalent of 240 professional development points shall be the maximum allowed for advancement
c. All professional development points counted toward advancement shall have been earned within the preceding five year period
d. All professional development points counted toward advancement shall have been earned since the last advancement on the Salary Schedule.
4. Advancement from (Column I, if applicable, or*) Column II to Column III shall be granted only upon completion of a graduate degree program. * The completion of a graduate degree program shall be the only allowable advancement of more than one column in a contract year. Proper paperwork must have been completed prior to completion of the graduate degree program. (See Section G).
5. Advancement from Column III to Column IV or from Column IV to Column V or from Column V to Column VI shall be predicated on:
a. Five college credit hours shall be the minimum requirement for advancement;
b. The equivalent of 200 professional development points shall be the maximum allowed for advancement;
c. All credit hours for advancement shall carry graduate level credit unless otherwise approved by the Superintendent of Schools;
d. All professional development points counted toward advancement shall have been earned within the preceding five year period; and,
e. All professional development points counted toward advancement shall have been earned since the last advancement on the Salary Schedule.
6. Notwithstanding the above, all placements on the Salary Schedule shall continue to be honored for employees contracted during the 2024-2025 year.
7. Each teacher shall advance on the Salary Schedule as experience and training permits providing the teacher submits the Request for Salary Schedule Advancement to the district office by May 1st. Salary Schedule Advancement. 1. The certificated employee shall have the responsibility of providing all necessary official transcripts and certification to confirm any changes in classification on schedule.
2. Official transcripts of academic credits and completed in-service credit forms that are to be used in calculating placement on the salary schedule are due at the central administration office no later than October 1, if salary consideration is expected for that year.
3. Only credit hours from an accredited college or university and eligible clock hours which have been earned after the awarding or conferring of the employee's first Bachelor's Degree will be considered for progression to the next classification. Credits must be transferable or applicable to a bachelor’s or more advanced degree program. Repeat credits may be counted only if the awarding institution issues written verification that the class can be repeated and would be applicable to a bachelor’s or more advanced degree.
4. Ten Enumclaw School District approved in-service or state approved continuing education credit hours defined in WAC 000-00-000 equal one in-service credit.
5. All credits/clock hours earned after September 1, 1995, shall be counted for placement on the salary schedule only if the content of the course meets any one of the criteria as outlined in WAC 000-000-000.
Salary Schedule Advancement. During the duration of this Agreement advancement on any salary schedule shall be subject to the terms of this Agreement. In the event a successor Agreement is not entered into prior to the expiration of this Agreement, an employee shall be compensated according to the current rate until a successor Agreement is entered into.
Salary Schedule Advancement. A. Reduced contract employees will advance one step vertically on the salary schedule when they have accumulated a total of one year of service in the previous school year or years. Movement on the salary schedule will occur at the start of the school year. The District will maintain a record of the employee’s years of service by quarters only and will indicate on the employee’s contract the number of quarters of full-time years that the employee has served in the District.
B. Three-Fourths-Time employees will advance one full year after completing the equivalent of one year of full service as a three-fourths employee.
C. Half-Time employees will advance one full year after completing two years of service as a half-time employee.
D. One-Fourth-Time employees will advance one full year of service after completing four years of service as a one-fourth-time employee.
