Academic Senate. 3.3.1 The Academic Senate shall be established, which shall be composed as follows: one (1) Faculty member from each department (two [2] from departments of twenty [20] or more full-time equivalent faculty positions) elected by the faculty of that department; the deans of the colleges; one (1) department head from each college; the Xxxx of Library and Instructional Support and the Xxxx of Graduate Education and Research; and four (4) students appointed by ASNMU. The PVPAA and an AAUP liaison shall serve in an ex officio, nonvoting capacity. Members of the Academic Senate shall have at least three (3) years at the University, if possible. Students may be appointed to appropriate committees of the Academic Senate.
3.3.1.1 The Academic Senate shall annually elect an Executive Committee from its membership, with the provision that the PVPAA and the AAUP liaison will be voting members.
3.3.1.2 The Academic Senate shall be governed as to procedures by its own bylaws and shall establish a subcommittee structure to carry out its responsibilities in accordance with such bylaws. Association members may attend any meeting of the Academic Senate. No-Association-members who are not included in Article 3.3.1 may attend Academic Senate meetings by invitation from the Academic Senate Chair.
3.3.2 The functions of the Academic Senate shall include: (a) advising and making recommendations to the PVPAA on matters of faculty-wide concern; (b) communicating items of concern to respective constituencies; and (c) informing the academic community of issues under consideration. The Academic Senate may make recommendations to the Association on such matters of academic policy or of general faculty concern as the Academic Senate may choose. Consultation between the Board and Association on such matters shall follow the procedures described in Section 1.5.2 The Academic Senate shall make recommendations to the PVPAA on proposals for University funding for scholarship and professional development. The available University funds will be allotted annually by the PVPAA based on this review and ranking; provided, however, that the PVPAA may reject a particular proposal for serious and compelling reasons which the PVPAA shall communicate to the Association in writing.
3.3.2.1 The Academic Senate shall not be responsible for nor deliberate upon promotion, tenure, faculty sabbatical leaves, or working conditions, including salaries and other economic benefits.

Academic Senate. The El Camino College Academic Senate, which is chartered to provide the faculty with a formal and effective procedure for participating in the formation of District policies on academic and professional matters, will continue that role as is outlined in Board Policy, adopted August 7, 1972. The Policy may be amended by the Board of Trustees when such amendment is recommended jointly by the District and the Academic Senate. The Academic Senate shall have no jurisdiction over matters specifically delegated to the Federation or to any joint District- Federation committee by terms of this Agreement.
Academic Senate. The total amount of contractual FTE/LHE reassigned for Academic Senate responsibilities shall be determined annually by the College President in consultation with and upon the recommendation of the Academic Senate President and the Vice President of Instruction. Such determination shall be made prior to the end of each Spring semester and be effective for the calendar year commencing at the end of that semester. The amount of FTE/LHE reassigned for Academic Senate duties shall be made in full accordance and full compliance with the workload measures specified in the table of values in section 4.1 above. The Academic Senate shall distribute these workload credits as it deems appropriate, subject to the review of the Vice President of Instruction, and subject to the condition that any such distribution is in full accordance and full compliance with the workload measures specified section 4.1 above. The workload for any noncontractual Academic Senate duties that fall external to the contractual year (i.e., intersession responsibilities) or are assigned to part-time faculty shall be determined in accordance with the provisions of Section 11, below.

Academic Senate. Each Academic Senate shall receive 1.6 FTE released time per academic year. Academic Senate Presidents will receive forty-eight (48) hours of compensation (sixteen hours per month, June, July, and August) at 1/1000th hourly rate for their summer assignment. If the District offers an assignment to the Presidents of the Academic Senate during the summer of any year, the CFE and the District agree that the hourly compensation shall be the 1/1000 hourly salary in which the president earns during the regular year preceding the year of the assignment. This is would be on a voluntary basis and would not be required. This assignment could be split between the presidents of each college.

(b) Effective Fall 2020, the District will provide 3 FTEF of reassigned/release time each semester for the work of the Academic Senate. The distribution of the reassigned/release time shall be at the discretion of the Academic Senate Board in consultation with the faculty member. Full-time faculty who request and are approved by the Academic Senate Executive Committee to work a reduced load shall schedule, in consultation with their Xxxx or Director, a reduced amount of time from their 40-hour contractual workweek for Academic Senate activities while maintaining their regular contractual salary. Faculty who request and are approved by the Academic Senate Executive Board to work their full contractual load and do Academic Senate activities in addition to their contractual workweek shall receive additional pay (“special assignment”) disbursed hourly in accordance with Appendix D-3, Rate I. The Academic Senate President will provide the Office of the Vice President of Academic Affairs within one week of the end of the academic semester a list of names with total number of Senate hours worked per person for those individuals who should receive special assignment pay. Notification of the designated Academic Senate officers and the schedule of their release/reassigned time will be provided by the Academic Senate President to the Vice President of Academic Affairs at least six (6) weeks in advance of the beginning of any semester.

Academic Senate. 28 The Academic Senate's composition and scope of activities are spelled out in its Constitution. However, 29 in the event of inconsistencies between this agreement and the Senate Constitution, this agreement 30 shall have precedence.

B. Curriculum Development and Approval Under “Academic and Professional Responsibility”, curriculum development, including the approval of textbooks in the current course outline of record, will be governed by policies and procedures mutually agreed upon by the District and the Academic Senate. and Replacement Unit Positions: New
C. The following is agreed to:
1. The District will continue to maintain flexibility in hiring decisions. However, when viewing replacement of retired unit members as well as the addition of new full-time unit positions, it is understood that the proceedings of the Academic Staffing Committee will be characterized by a measured response to the educational mission, departmental program plans, community needs, and available funding.
2. Any modifications to the Academic Staffing Committee’s procedures will be made with mutual consent of the District and the Academic Senate.
