EDUCATION ASSISTANTS. 1. All Education Assistants employed by the Board to assist teachers in carrying out their responsibilities and duties under the School Act and Regulations shall be assigned to classes and/or students by the Principal and shall be assigned specific duties by the teacher during the designated periods of time. 2. Education Assistants shall not assume at any time the direct instructional responsibility for providing educational programs to students or groups of students and shall not perform any of the duties of the teachers, except under the direction of the teacher with whom he/she is working. 3. Teachers are not responsible for completing performance reviews on Education Assistants, but may provide input into performance reviews at the request of the Principal. 4. Education Assistants may be used to supplement but not take the place of qualified professional personnel as covered in this agreement.

EDUCATION ASSISTANTS. 1. An Education Assistant may not perform the instructional duties of a teacher. 2. Education Assistants may assist the teacher by: a. providing assistance to individual students and groups of students; b. monitoring students; c. maintaining student records; and x. providing advice and guidance to students. 3. Education Assistants shall not assume instructional responsibility while the teacher is absent. It is understood that education assistants, program workers, or clerk/librarians are not assuming instructional responsibility when working in the absence of the supervising teacher or teacher/librarian. 4. Education Assistants shall not be used to replace qualified teachers.
EDUCATION ASSISTANTS. 1. For the purposes of this Article, all persons employed by the Board to fulfill an "Education Assistant" assignment will be employed only in an Education Assistant position. 2. Individuals filling an Education Assistant position shall be under the general supervision of an Administrative Officer and the direct instructional supervision of the teacher(s) whom they assist. 3. When used in this Article, the term "teacher" includes an Administrative Officer(s) when the Administrative Officer(s) is carrying out teaching duties assigned by the Board.
EDUCATION ASSISTANTS. 1. The following conditions shall apply when the Board employs Education Assistants pursuant to Section 18 of the School Act. 2. Education Assistants shall work under the supervision of a teacher and/or an Administrative Officer. 3. Education Assistants shall be employed to assist teachers in carrying out their duties and responsibilities as set out in the School Act and Regulations, and may include but are not limited to: a. assisting teachers in designing, supervising, and assessing educational programmes; b. assisting teachers in their instructional responsibilities and in the delivery of educational programmes; c. assisting teachers in providing instruction to individual students and groups of students; d. assisting teachers in evaluating students and educational programmes; e. assisting teachers in maintaining student records and reports to parents; and f. providing any other assistance deemed appropriate by the teacher to whom assistance is being provided. 4. Education Assistants shall not assume primary responsibility for the duties listed in (Article A.24.3). 5. Education Assistants shall not assume primary responsibility while the teacher is absent. 6. Education Assistants shall not be used as replacements for teachers.
EDUCATION ASSISTANTS. This shall mean all persons employed and classified as Education Assistants by the School Board. The Board and the District Comparable Worth agent recognize three (3) classes of Education Assistants. The classes are based on job description and reflect different levels of independent decision making.

EDUCATION ASSISTANTS. 30.1 An Education assistant, including teachers' aides and youth care workers, is: a. an employee of the Board who, as an integral part of his/her duties, has regular contact with students; and b. not employed as a teacher as defined by the School Act and does not require a teaching certificate. 30.2 All education assistants hired to assist teachers in carrying out their responsibilities and duties shall be under the direction of the teacher(s) to whom they are assigned. 30.3 Unless specifically directed by the teacher, education assistants shall not perform any of the duties of teachers, including but not limited to: a. designing, supervising and assessing educational programs; b. assuming any instructional responsibilities or engaging in the delivery of educational programs; c. providing instruction to individual students and/or groups of students; or d. evaluating students or educational programs. 30.4 Education assistants shall not engage in any instructional responsibilities when the teacher is absent from regular duties. 30.5 Teachers' assistants shall not be used as alternatives for qualified professional personnel. 30.6 The evaluation of education assistants is the responsibility of the employer and shall not be delegated to teachers. Teachers may be consulted in the evaluation of education assistants.

EDUCATION ASSISTANTS. A.31.1 All education assistants hired to assist teachers in carrying out their responsibilities and duties in the classroom shall be under the direct instructional supervision of a teacher and general employment supervision of an administrator and shall be covered by the following sections. It is understood that any reference to education assistants in this article is not limited to those positions with the title “Education Assistant”, and also includes all support staff positions that are or may be hired to assist teachers in carrying out their responsibilities and duties in the classroom. A.31.2 Education assistants shall assist teachers in, but not assume primary responsibility for, the following duties: a. designing, supervising and assessing educational programs, b. providing instruction to individual students and groups of students, c. evaluating students, d. maintaining student records or reporting to parents, and e. other duties, related to the teacher’s classroom or educational program, which are assigned by the teacher to whom the assistance is being provided. A.31.3 Education assistants shall not be utilized by the Board to replace qualified teachers. A.31.4 Administrators shall have responsibility for completing evaluation reports on the performance of education assistants, after consultation with the teacher(s) to whom the assistance is being provided. A.31.5 For purposes of this article, a teacher includes an administrator during the time the administrator is performing teaching duties in accordance with the School Act and Regulations. A.31.6 The administrator of the school will consult with the School Staff Committee and other appropriate staff when assigning non-dedicated and dedicated education assistant time. A.31.7 References to Teacher Assistant(s) elsewhere in this agreement will be understood by the parties to refer to Education Assistants.
EDUCATION ASSISTANTS. The Board shall provide to the Union a preliminary list of Special Needs Assistants positions prior to the annual Spring assignment meeting and a final list subsequent to September 30th in each year of the Special Needs Assistants’ positions established for the year.
EDUCATION ASSISTANTS identified for transfer from a school, service unit, department, or work unit, shall be placed in a transfer pool. Education Assistants in the transfer pool shall be offered placement on the basis of firstly, their field of employment and identified Special Education program or programming for individual students; secondly, their weekly hours of work category; and thirdly, their seniority. In the event Education Assistants cannot be placed within their own field of employment and identified Special Education program or programming for individual students, they shall be offered placement on the basis of firstly, field of employment; secondly, their hours of work category; and thirdly, their seniority. Employees declining placement for the first time will: a) move to the bottom of the placement list; b) not be eligible to exercise displacement rights; and c) not be considered for placement outside of their field of employment and weekly hours of work category. Employees declining placement for the second time: a) will not be eligible for recall; and b) shall retain layoff status and may apply for posted positions as a continuous employee for one year from the date of layoff. Where an employee has been identified for transfer and is not subsequently placed, a notice of layoff shall be issued in accordance with Clause 7.5.2.
