Number of Holidays. (The following clause is applicable to full-time employees only) There shall be twelve (12) holidays and these holidays are set out in the Local Provisions Appendix. Should the Hospital be required to observe an additional paid holiday as a result of legislation, it is understood that one of the existing holidays recognized by the Hospital shall be established as the legislated holiday after discussion with the Union, so that the Hospital's obligation to provide the number of paid holidays as noted above remains unchanged.

Due to the nature of the services necessary in a Hospital, many of the employees may be required to work on these holidays. When work is performed on a statutory holiday, payment will be at the rate of time and one-half in addition to the holiday pay or a total of double time and one-half where the holiday is worked. If an employee so requests, and it is convenient and agreeable to the Department Head, they may be granted a day off in lieu of holiday pay, it being understood that any days so scheduled will not be changed. Where an employee is required to work overtime in excess of his regularly scheduled hours on a paid holiday (but not including hours on a subsequent regularly scheduled shift) such employee shall receive two and one-half times his regular straight time hourly rate for such additional overtime. In general, employees will alternate with each other in being absent from work on holidays for instance, an employee having Christmas Day off may not be allowed off on New Year’s Day. Employees’ preferences will be carefully considered before posting of schedules, providing there is no delay in stating the preference. If any of the above-named holidays occurs on an employee’s regular day off or during his vacation period, the employee will receive an additional day off or payment for holiday in lieu...
