Temporary Transfer. When an employee is assigned temporarily to perform the duties and assume the responsibilities of a higher paying position in the bargaining unit, for a period in excess of one-half of a shift, he shall be paid the rate immediately above his current rate in the higher classification to which he was assigned from the commencement of the shift on which he was assigned the job.

An employee who is temporarily transferred from his regular job shall be paid the standard hourly rate of the job to which he has been transferred, provided such rate is not less than that of his regular job. If the rate of the job to which he is temporarily transferred, but not as a result of a lay-off, is less than the rate of his regular job, he shall be paid the rate of his regular job during the period of such temporary transfer.

In the selection of an employee for temporary transfer, where the employee is required by the Company to remain away from his home for a period which is expected by the Company to be in excess of two weeks, the Company will give first consideration to the most senior employee who will volunteer from the functional group in the seniority unit at the reporting centre from which the transfer is to be made, and who has the necessary qualifications, providing the remaining employees at his reporting centre have the necessary qualifications to do the work remaining.

When a new classification (which is covered terms of this Collective Agreement) is established by the Hospital, the Hospital shall determine the rate of pay for such new classification and notify the local union of the same and provide details at least fourteen (14) days prior to posting. If the local union challenges the rate, it shall have the right to request a meeting with the Hospital to endeavour to negotiate a mutually satisfactory rate. Such request will be made within ten days after the receipt of notice from the Hospital of such new occupational classification and rate. Any change mutually agreed to resulting from such meeting shall be retroactive to the date that notice of the new rate was given by the Hospital. If the parties are unable to agree, the dispute concerning the new rate may be submitted to arbitration as provided in the Agreement within fifteen (15) days of such meeting. The decision of the Board of Arbitration (or arbitrator as the case may be) shall be based on the relationship established by comparison with the rates for other classifications in the bargaining unit having regard to the requirements of such a if tion When the Hospital makes a substantial change during the term of this Agreement in the job content of an existing classification which in reality causes such classification to become a new classification, the Hospital agrees to meet with the Union if requested to permit the Union to make representation with respect to the appropriate rate of pay. If the matter is not resolved following the meeting with the Union the matter may be referred to arbitration as provided in the Agreement within fifteen (15) days of such meeting. When an employee is temporarily transferred to a job classification with a different wage rate, he/she will be paid his/her regular rate of pay; provided, after working in a higher classification for a period of five (5) consecutive days he/she will receive the entry level of the higher classification or his regular rate of pay, whichever is higher.
