Sick Leave Utilization. An employee shall be granted sick leave with pay to the extent of their accumulation for absences necessitated by the following conditions:
Sick Leave Utilization a. All or part of a leave taken by a teacher because of a temporary disability caused by pregnancy may be charged at her discretion, to her available personal illness leave days. However, the teacher is not entitled to take accumulated personal illness leave days when the teacher's physician certifies that the teacher is capable of performing the teacher's regular teaching duties. The teacher is entitled to complete the remaining leave without pay.
Sick Leave Utilization. Upon the expiration of the covered salary protection period, if the employee is still unable to work, the employee may elect to utilize accrued sick leave. When accrued sick leave has been exhausted, if the employee is still, because of disability, unable to work, the employee will be permitted to use all accrued vacation, bonus, and professional leave as sick leave. Subsequent to exhausting these leaves, the employee shall receive no additional compensation from the Department; however, exceptions to this rule may be allowed by the Sheriff.
Sick Leave Utilization. 1. Sick leave reporting will reflect the amount of time actually used.

Sick Leave Utilization. Sick leave may be used by employees actively at work during absence caused by a non- work related injury or illness, for medical, dental or vision care appointments, or during the waiting period for a work-related injury or illness. Sick leave may be used in any manner authorized by and consistent with federal and/or state law.
Sick Leave Utilization. Sick leave is only to be used for absences due to illness or injury. Sick leave shall be utilized in a minimum of one hour increments. Employees working ten (10) or twelve (12) hour shifts will be required to utilize ten (10) or twelve (12) hours accordingly when utilizing full days of sick leave. Sick leave may be used for doctor appointments, subject to the provisions listed below.
Sick Leave Utilization. Sick Leave accruals must be exhausted before the employee is placed on unpaid leave status during a Long-Term Health Leave. An employee can elect to use Annual/Emergency Leave or to bank all Annual Leave for use after returning to work from a Long-Term Health Leave. Seniority is retained during a Long-Term Health Leave of one (1) year or less. No increment is allowed for the year when an employee has been allowed a Long-Term Health Leave.

Sick Leave Utilization above, all Sergeants hired after ratification of this agreement, shall be entitled to up to three (3) paid days and up to three (3) additional unpaid days of leave each year of this Agreement, to mourn and/or attend to familial responsibilities caused by the death of a member of the Sergeant’s immediate family. “Immediate Family” shall be as defined in Article XII B.2., above. All other Sergeants shall be entitled to up to two (2) unpaid days of leave each year of this agreement, in addition to such leave as set out in Article XII B.2. above, to mourn and/or attend to familial responsibilities caused by the death of a member of the Sergeant’s immediate family, as defined herein. Unused Bereavement Leave is not cumulative year to year and NJIT reserves its right to require validation of the need for Bereavement Leave. Finally, Bereavement Leave must be taken within ten (10) days of the death of the immediate family member unless exception is authorized for extraordinary circumstances by and at the discretion of the Vice President for Human Resources or his/her designee.
