Academic Leave of Absence. An employee who has approval, from the Board of Graduate Studies, for academic leave of absence from their graduate program shall not forfeit a semester of work that has been offered to them as part of the Job Security Period (per 1.04 (n)) in the University’s Offer of Admission unless the employee agrees in writing to forfeit the semester of work.
Academic Leave of Absence. Upon recommendation by the Superintendent of Schools, a sabbatical leave will be granted to a certified member of the Association by the Board for study including study in another area of specialization, for travel or for other reasons of value to the school system, subject to the following conditions:

Academic Leave of Absence i. An academic leave of absence without pay may be requested by a MBU, normally after two (2) years of full-time service to the University. Leave of absence requests may be made sooner if the person requesting the leave is in receipt of an educational grant or fellowship in his/her academic field, and if that grant or fellowship is provided by sources outside the University.

Except as outlined in part (d) of this section, a GE on GEFML who takes an academic leave of absence will lose their tuition waiver and insurance subsidy, however, the GE can maintain health benefits by paying COBRA premiums.
