Annual Conversion of Accumulated Sick Leave. Each January, any employee who at the end of the immediately previous calendar year shall have accumulated in excess of sixty days of unused sick leave may elect to convert unused sick leave earned the previous year in excess of sixty days to monetary compensation at the rate of 25% of the employee's current, full-time daily rate of compensation for each full day of eligible sick leave. Any such election shall be made by written notice to the Superintendent during the month of January. Any such annual conversion of accumulated sick leave shall be subject to the terms and limitations of law.

The maximum number of days that may be converted for a Principal shall be one hundred eighty (180) days consistent with board policy and state statute. The compensation will be at the rate of twenty-five percent (25%) of the employee’s current contract pay (e.g., 223/216th per authorized day) for each full day of eligible sick leave.

Commencing in January of 1981 and each January thereafter, each eligible, current employee may elect to convert excess sick leave to monetary compensation as hereinafter provided for in Board Policy. 2. An eligible employee is one who has accumulated in excess of 60 full days of unused sick leave as of the last pay period of the prior year, at a rate of not more than 12 days per year. 3. Written notice of the intent to convert unused sick leave must be provided to the District during the month of January. 4. The number of sick leave days which an eligible employee may convert shall be determined by taking the number of days accumulated during the previous calendar year and subtracting there from the number of sick leave days used by the employee during the previous calendar year. 5. The number calculated in paragraph 4 above, if positive, shall be the number of sick leave days, which may be converted. Monetary compensation shall be paid to the employee at a rate equal to one day’s monetary compensation of the employee for each four full days of accrued sick leave. Partial days shall be compensated on a pro rata basis. 6. Sick leave days converted to compensation, pursuant to paragraph 5 above, shall be deducted from the employee's accumulated sick leave. 7. Compensation received pursuant to this policy shall not be included for the purpose of computing a retirement allowance under any public retirement system in this state. 8. Payment shall be included in the February payroll. Required federal withholding and social security deductions will be made at this time.

The Association, with an annual vote of fifty-one percent (51%) of the Association, will be allowed to participate in such plans once adopted by the Board in accordance with law and regulations. The Association agrees to provide annual survey packets to those members deemed eligible. The District agrees to make contributions to the plan on behalf of all Principals in the group eligible to participate in the plan by reason of having sick leave conversion rights. It is understood that all eligible Principals will be required to sign and submit to the District annually a hold harmless agreement complying with the statute. Should an eligible Principal fail to sign and submit such an agreement, he/she shall be ineligible to participate at any time during the term of this Agreement. The employees 26 should be allowed to transfer sick leave to fellow employees per state policy.
