Bereavement Leave Pay. 1. Paid Leave a. An Employee will be granted the amount of time off with pay that is required to attend the funeral, memorial, or other similar services or gatherings, and/or to make arrangements necessitated by the death of any of the following: The Employee’s spouse or significant other non related person living in the Employee’s household or the child, parent (including step- parent or the significant other of a parent), grandparent, sibling, grandchild (or spouse/significant other of any of the preceding) of either the Employee or the Employee’s spouse or significant other. b. An Employee experiencing bereavement upon conclusion of a pregnancy, in cases other than live birth, shall be granted paid bereavement leave. c. Bereavement Leave Pay. 39.01 An employee will be granted bereavement leave with pay to arrange or attend funerals. 39.02 Employees shall be granted five (5) days paid leave of absence in the event of a death of a spouse or a child or parent. 39.03 Employees shall be granted up to three (3) days paid leave of absence in the event of a death of other immediate family members. 39.04 Immediate family is generally defined as grandparents, stepparents, stepchildren, grandchildren and spouses, children's spouses, brothers, sisters, spouse's parents, and spouse's brothers and sisters. 39.05 In exceptional circumstances, paid leave of absence can be extended to, but limited to, a maximum of five (5) days. Exceptional circumstances include journeys which cannot be completed in one (1) or two (2) days. 39.06 The above categories include relations of the employee by marriage, common-law or adoption.
Bereavement Leave Pay a. Employees will be granted four (4) days off with pay at the employee's straight time rate in the event of the death of the employee's spouse or child, and four (4) days in the event of the death of any other member of the immediate family defined as parent, parent-in-law, child, sister or brother, spouse, grandparents, grandparents-in-law, brother-in-law, sister-in- law, or other members of the employee's household. The Employer reserves the right to verify the legal relationship of the family member of the employee. b. Employees shall be granted one day off, the day of the funeral, without loss of pay, for the funeral of any other relative. c. Effective January 1, 1982, if an employee in the bargaining unit has to travel 450 miles to attend a funeral, he shall be entitled to one (1) extra day off without loss of pay.
Bereavement Leave Pay. (a) Employees bereaved by the death of a member of their immediate family are granted time off, with pay, for time necessary to travel to and from the funeral location and attendance at the funeral. The deceased must have been a member of the immediate family household, such as spouse, child (natural or step), mother, father, brother, sister, mother-in-law or father-in-law, grandparent and grandchild. If a closer than normal relationship existed between the employee and a person other than those named, consideration will be given toward payment of the bereavement benefit. Bereavement leave shall be paid up to a maximum of five (5) days. Payment will be based on the employee’s current rate. The relationship of the deceased and the location of the funeral must be noted on the request for bereavement pay status. An employee will be entitled to receive up to three (3) days of pay for actual time lost to attend in-state funerals and up to five (5) days of pay for actual time lost to attend out-of-state funerals. Additional unpaid time may be granted where appropriate. An employee who is on an authorized leave of absence is not eligible for this benefit, except in the case of an employee who is on a leave of absence to care for a relative covered above. That employee will be eligible for bereavement pay in the event of the death of that person. (b) Those employees in tipped classifications will have bereavement leave benefits paid at the appropriate non-tipped rate for Food/Beverage Xxxxxxx on Appendix “A.”
Bereavement Leave Pay. 24:01:01 In the event of a death of a spouse or child and a crewmember has to be brought ashore before the completion of a trip the crewmember shall receive $1050.00 per week for the portion of the trip missed unless he is required to rejoin his vessel after a reasonable period of time ashore. 24:01:02 In the event of a death of a mother, father, brother, sister, grandchild, father-in-law, mother-in-law, grandparent or legal guardian and a crewmember elects to be brought ashore before the completion of a trip the crewmember shall receive $650.00 per week for the portion of the trip missed unless he is required to rejoin his vessel after a reasonable time ashore. 24:01 03 Should a crewmember suffer a bereavement after the vessel lands and that crewmembers is scheduled to work he shall be paid to a maximum of three (3) days in accordance with clause 19:02. 24:02 For the provisions of 24:01:01 and 24:01:02 to be operative the crewmember shall be put ashore in order to attend the funeral. 24:03 The Company agrees that when a vessel lands in a port on the island of Newfoundland to drop off a crewmember, and decides to replace him, it will use reasonable efforts to do so provided this does not cause any sailing delay. Should the Company decide that a replacement is needed, the replacement shall share in the gross stock for his portion of the trip. Should the Company not replace the crewmember then it shall add per diem due the replacement to be shared equally among remaining crewmembers. 24:04 In the event of bereavement at sea, the Company will choose and pay the transportation costs of the crewmember, to his home port. 24:05 When a crewmember is scheduled to sail and a bereavement occurs as defined in 24:01:01 or 24:01:02 resulting in the crewmember missing his trip due to the trawler’s sailing before the funeral the crewmember shall be compensated at the weekly rate of $1050.00 or $650.00 respectively for the trip that is missed due to the bereavement.

Bereavement Leave Pay. A Pilot shall notify the Company immediately upon knowing the need to request Bereavement Leave. A Pilot on Bereavement Leave shall be paid: 1. Two and a half (2.5) PCH per Day prior to the posting of the Initial Bid Lines in the applicable Bid Award Process; or, 2. After the Initial Bid Line posting in the applicable Monthly Bid Process, the scheduled PCH of all Dropped Duty.

Leave of absence granted for bereavement will not be applied against the ten (10) days leave entitlement as set out in the Employment Standards Act, 2000 Emergency Leave Provision.
