DRIVER LICENSE REQUIREMENTS. Renewal with Major Violations Totaling More Than Three (3)
DRIVER LICENSE REQUIREMENTS.
a. Employees shall possess valid California driver licenses and endorsements as required by the job specifications. Employees are responsible for maintaining a valid report of medical examination on file with the CA Department of Motor Vehicles in order to maintain valid Class A, B or C firefighter endorsed licenses. Failure to maintain a proper driver’s license shall subject employees to disciplinary action pursuant to the Civil Service Rules.
b. Employees who work overtime in a classification having a higher driver license requirement and/or endorsements must have such license and endorsements in order to be eligible for the overtime work, which requires completing and signing an authorization form allowing their enrollment in the California Department of Motor Vehicles Employer Pull Notice System.
DRIVER LICENSE REQUIREMENTS. The following provisions supplement Department policy Section 516.10 (Driver's License) and shall apply to those employees required to possess a valid California Driver License in order to perform their job duties.
1. It is the responsibility of affected employees to maintain required licenses. An employee who becomes unable to drive for any reason, including but not limited to, lapse, suspension or revocation of a driver license, shall promptly inform his/her appointing authority.
DRIVER LICENSE REQUIREMENTS a. Employees in the Equipment Serviceworker and Equipment Mechanic classifications shall possess a valid Class A commercial California driver license with a Tank Vehicle endorsement. The Class A license must not have airbrake or automatic transmission restrictions. All other employees shall maintain the appropriate driver’s license required for their job classification.
b. Employees, who were hired prior to September 22, 1990, who are temporarily unable to maintain the required commercial license, but are able to maintain a Class “C” license, shall, as a result of that failure, be transferred to an alternate assignment, if available, with a salary reduction of 2.5%, until the required license has been obtained in a reasonable amount of time. However, in the event the employee is unable to obtain the required license, the employee shall be separated from employment. Further, the salary reduction or separation from employment shall not be subject to the grievance procedures provided for in Article 5, nor shall the reduction be considered disciplinary action as defined by Rule 12 of the Rules and Regulations of the Civil Service Board. In the event the transferred employee subsequently obtains the required license with endorsements, the employee shall be transferred back to the previous assignment at the same step in the salary range occupied prior to the transfer and salary reduction.
c. An employee who is unable to qualify for a required commercial license, due to medical reasons, shall not be subject to the contractual transfer or salary reduction described in Section 17.9(b), above.
DRIVER LICENSE REQUIREMENTS. An employee, as a condition of continued employment, shall comply with the applicable Federal and State laws and regulations mandating the type of classes of commercial vehicle licenses and endorsements to legally operate City vehicles and related equipment. The City shall determine the classifications and identify the class of commercial license and endorsements required for all or some job assignments. The City agrees to meet and confer with the Association prior to implementation of changes in driver license requirements mandated by State or Federal law.

b. Employees hired prior to October 20, 1990, who are temporarily unable to maintain the required commercial license, but is able to maintain a Class “C” license, shall, as a result of that failure, be transferred to an alternate assignment, if available, with a salary reduction of 2.5%, until the required license has been obtained in a reasonable amount of time. All licenses must allow operation of vehicles equipped with air brakes and/or manual transmissions.
b. Fire Captains who work overtime in a classification having a higher driver license requirement and/or endorsements must have such license and endorsements in order to be eligible for the overtime work.

(1) License must not have an air brake restriction
(2) License must not have an automatic transmission restriction
b. Employees appointed on or after July 13, 1991, shall be required, as a condition of continued employment, to possess a Class "B" license and endorsements, and in some assignments a Class "A" license and endorsements.
c. If there are insufficient numbers of employees who possess the required commercial license and/or endorsements when the commercial license and/or endorsements are mandatory for some assignments only, then the commercial license and/or endorsements shall be mandated as necessary for the designated assignments.
d. The City shall attempt to make reasonable accommodation for an employee who is unable to qualify for the required commercial license for medical reasons, but is able to maintain a Class "C" license.
