Education/Professional Leave. Information concerning professional meetings, educational courses, and/or workshops pertaining to any aspect of employment shall be posted as far as possible in advance so that employees may apply for leave of absence for the course. An employee shall make the request for such leave to his/her immediate supervisor, in writing.

Education/Professional Leave. Nurses may be allowed up to forty-eight (48) hours of paid educational professional leave per fiscal year (This amount will be prorated for part-time employees, .9 FTE nurses who work twelve (12) hour shifts shall be treated as full-time nurses for purposes of this section); provided, however, such leave shall be subject to budgetary considerations, scheduling requirements of the Employer and approval by the Director of Nursing Operations Clinical Service of the subject matter to be studied. Where the Hospital intends to deny a substantial amount of educational leave for budgetary reasons, the Hospital will, upon request, present the budgetary reasons in Conference Committee and will discuss alternatives to the denial of educational leave. Programs enhancing the professional growth of a nurse at the Hospital and participation in meetings of nursing or nursing related organizations will be considered for the use of professional/educational leave. As between employees who request it, educational/professional leave shall be approved in an equitable manner. Beginning upon ratification, the Hospital will provide two hundred dollars ($200.00) per bargaining unit nurse FTE at the beginning of each fiscal year. From the beginning of the fiscal year through the end of February of the following year, each nurse shall be guaranteed up to two hundred dollars ($200.00) (pro-rated for part-time nurses) to pay for educational/professional leave-related expenses such as registration fees, travel expenses, etc. Nurses who prior to the end of February, have a request approved for the use of guaranteed education support money after the end of February shall have that money set aside for such use and it will not be pooled as outlined below. Effective March 1st, the unspent portion of the two hundred dollars ($200.00) shall be pooled on a hospital-wide basis. From March 1st through the end of the fiscal year (June 30th), the fund shall be allocated on a first-come, first served basis with conflicts resolved by seniority. There shall be an annual (fiscal) maximum usage of three hundred dollars ($300.00) per full-time nurse, which includes the two hundred dollars ($200.00) annual educational/professional leave expense allocation plus up to an additional one hundred dollars ($100.00) of pooled funds.
Education/Professional Leave. To the extent possible, DP nurses shall be allowed up to ten (10) days professional/educational leave per year prorated per FTE. For purposes of this section, a nurse who works three twelve hour shifts per week (0.9 FTE) will be considered full- time.
Education/Professional Leave. The Employer will grant forty (404) hours of educational professional leave within the fiscal year (currently July 1 – June 30) to nurses requesting such leave. Such leave may be used if staffing permits and shall be prorated for part-time nurses. For purposes of sections 16.5 and 16.6 only, .9 FTE and above shall be considered full time. For purposes of this Article, educational and professional leave shall be defined as a. short-term conferences or programs for educational, leadership and professional growth and development in nursing; b. enhancement and expansion of clinical skills for RN positions at UWMC-NW; c. meetings and committee activities of the nurses’ respective professional associations which are designed to develop and promote programs to improve the quality and availability of nursing service and health care; d. those in-service educational programs attended on a voluntary basis; and e. educational programs necessary to maintain licensure or certification. In accordance with the unit’s scheduling guidelines, requests for educational and professional leave shall be submitted and responded to in writing including the reason for any denial. Responses will be issued as soon as possible but no later than two weeks prior to the posting of the final schedule. Any prior year requests that were denied because of resource limitations will be taken into consideration in reviewing subsequent requests for educational/professional leave. Nurses may apply in advance for educational and professional leave granted for on-line or other self-study (CEARP approved educational offering). The nurse manager may approve either time off or straight time pay, exclusive of additional premiums. The number of hours shall not exceed the contact hours awarded by the accrediting body.

Related to Education/Professional Leave

  • Professional Leave Professional leave without pay will be granted to full-time and regular part-time Nurses who are elected to the College of Nurses to attend regularly scheduled meetings of the College of Nurses. Professional leave without pay will be granted to Registered Nurses who are elected to the RNAO to attend regularly scheduled meetings. Professional leave without pay will be granted to Registered Practical Nurses who are elected to the RPNAO to attend regularly scheduled meetings.

  • Educational Leave Leave without pay may be granted for educational leave for the duration of actual attendance in an educational program.

  • Education Leave If required by the Hospital, an employee shall be entitled to leave of absence with pay and without loss of seniority and benefits to write examinations to upgrade his or her employment qualifications. Where employees are required by the Hospital to take courses to upgrade or acquire new employment qualifications, the Hospital shall pay the full costs associated with the courses. Subject to operational requirements, the Hospital will make every reasonable effort to grant requests for necessary changes to an employee's schedule to enable attendance at a recognized up-grading course or seminar related to employment with the Hospital."

  • Professional and Education Leaves (a) Leave of absence with pay or without pay may be granted to employees to attend professional and educational meetings, courses, or other events which may be judged beneficial to the employee's professional development, especially as it relates to her responsibilities with the Employer.

  • Educational Leave of Absence Leaves of absence may be granted up to six (6) months under the above provisions only if the course would be beneficial to both the University and the employee.

  • Medical Leave Pursuant to applicable provisions of the Civil Service Rules, County Code, and other law, medical leaves of absence will be granted by the employee’s Department Head upon request only upon submission of a doctor’s certificate or other satisfactory medical evidence of the employee’s need for such leave.

  • Professional Development Leave A. Policy. Professional development leave shall be made available to employees who meet the requirements set forth below. Such leaves are granted to increase an employee's value to the University through enhanced opportunities for professional renewal, educational travel, study, formal education, research, writing, or other experience of professional value, not as a reward for service.

  • Employment Relations Education Leave Employment Relations Education Leave will be allowed in accordance with the Employment Relations Act.

  • PROFESSIONAL BEHAVIOR Teachers are expected to comply with reasonable rules, regulations, and directions adopted by the Board, or its representatives, which are not inconsistent with the provisions of this Agreement, provided that a teacher may reasonably refuse to carry out an order which threatens physical safety or well being or is professionally demeaning.

  • Family Medical Leave or Critical Illness Leave a) Family Medical Leave or Critical Illness leaves granted to a permanent teacher, long-term occasional teacher or teacher hired into a term position under this Article shall be in accordance with the provisions of the Employment Standards Act, as amended. b) The teacher will provide to the employer such evidence as necessary to prove entitlement under the Employment Standards Act. c) A teacher contemplating taking such leave(s) shall notify the employer of the intended date the leave is to begin and the anticipated date of return to active employment. d) Seniority and experience continue to accrue during such leave(s). e) Where a teacher is on such leave(s), the Employer shall continue to pay its share of the benefit premiums, where applicable. To maintain participation and coverage under the Collective Agreement, the teacher must agree to provide for payment for the teacher’s share of the benefit premiums, where applicable. f) In order to receive pay for such leaves, a teacher must access Employment Insurance and the Supplemental Employment Benefit (SEB) in accordance with g) to j), if allowable by legislation. An employee who is eligible for E.I. is not entitled to benefits under a school board’s sick leave and short term disability plan. g) The Employer shall provide for permanent teachers, long-term occasional teachers and teachers hired into a term position who access such Leaves, a SEB plan to top up their E.I.
